The difficult January transfer window

372

The script was written. Dedryck Boyata was destined to open the scoring against Hamilton Accies yesterday.  The only surprise was that this wasn’t followed by ‘a Dedryck moment’, as he mis-controlled for an equaliser.  Brendan now has some big decisions to make about the player, but with Jozo Simunovic and Jack Hendry injured, we are down to only two fit central defenders heading into the games against Suduva and Newco, the latter after the transfer window closes (Marvin Compper isn’t even in the debate).

We continually hear that January is a difficult time to sign players.  That being the case, we might get as much money for Dedryck then as now.  I would also be concerned about signing a player a day or two before throwing him into an atmospheric (cough) capacity game.  Especially if he is young.

Brendan has made his thoughts known on our defending this season, but yesterday’s footage from Fir Park will give him some ideas for this Sunday’s game.  With so much in play, you feel there is a pivotal week ahead.

  1. Anyone think

Celtic have been given another opportunity to challenge the FtSFA and some other legal decisions

    Oh

    And speak out ??

  2. A Knight of the Realm, or fingering an ex-President of the SFA for starters may be a mite embarrassing…

I’ll say, “fingering an ex-President of the SFA for starters …”

    Who’d a thunk it?

  3. Some Interesting comments on The Bear Pit, a Sevco Forum, on the EBT Pay-up ultimatum.

    This was my favourite response:-

“This is what I don’t understand. HMRC clearly pursued Rangers, therefore the liability is with Rangers according to them. Now they want to pursue the recipients of EBTs? Would this not be the tax being paid twice? Obviously if it had been paid by the company in the first place.”

    other gems include:-

“I’m not sure I understand how they can liquidate the employer and then pursue the employee for the same offence.

It strikes me as double jeopardy.

Why didn’t they pursue the individuals in the first instance? ”

“And to think we have 2 big games coming up this week, just trying to drag our name through the mud again”

“My understanding was that the amounts received by players was treated as a net figure and the sum pursued by HMRC was a grossing up exercise

I don’t believe this story – HMRC pursued the employer. If they are now treating these EBT payments as gross in the hands of the recipient then their whole pursuit of the “big tax case” was invalid ”

” What if you live abroad, would they still be able to pursue you?

Only if EBT are a tax offence in that country ”

“Klos wasn’t daft moving to Switzerland ”

” The areshole MP’s actually gave HMRC the right to go back 20 years so they can claim tax back on people who were using these schemes. When the bill was put through parliament half them never even turned up to vote they never understood what they were doing and its opened up a huge can of worms.”

“Never heard of hmrc using third parties to pursue debts before. Seems odd. Have they sold the alleged debt to them ”

” Big Bob Malcolm offered them a

99, 20p mixture and a curly wurly then told them to bolt …..”

” Just hit them with that was the old club…%^*& all to do with us…..melts them every time…”

*just after he signed for them he was asked if Celtic had come in who would he have signed for, his response was deidco as he would win more medals there, he also said he was a Morton supporter and not Celtic. Lyin wee bassa on both counts

*John McPhail when he was with the Record. John McKenzie had a boat berthed down in Balloch, it had a football motif on it with the “Voice” below. He often spoke well of the Big Mhan and both him and James Sanderson were banned fae hades for a spell. for criticising their team selection for the 1967 ECWC Final.

Offshore companies bombard me with offers to manage my ‘wealth’ and frozen UK pension on a daily basis . This is based on the UK pension release legislation

The Rangers tax evasion is news so the vultures and the insects will be out in force . Trident will be the first

    No jelly here; yet

Bob Crampsey left Holyrood to take up a Heads position ( cannot now remember the secondary school ) down Mosspark way. Is that Lourdes ( been away from Glasgow for years ). Jack McGuire and a real character decorated by the Polish Government was the main history teacher at Holyrood. I had him in my 5th and 6th years which would be 1960-1965 or so.

Crampsey was the headie at St Ambrose in the 80s, he was never in the school… I may be incorrect but no way he was a Celtic fan in my opinion

  15. Garcia Lorca

I was also taught by Bob Crampsey at Holyrood I was there 68-74. Bob did try and distance himself from the other Teachers who were big Celtic fans and did encourage you to think about issues and not to follow blindly.

I remember Murphy who was the Celtic announcer and McGuire but didn’t know Mrs Maley.

When I was at Holyrood it was massive, it was the biggest school in Western Europe with over 2500 pupils.

There must be a big percentage of the crowd at Celtic Park are ex holyrood

Interesting highlights of our nest spfl highlights. They got a couple of lucky goals and and Motherwell could have had a couple more.

I didn’t see the game so it could have felt better. I’m sure the management will work on their defence before the weekend. It’s going to take a while for all hunco to get used to the spfl. Away at motherwell is a real test.

I remember when I was at Saint Tams, being told by a teacher that Holyrood and Saint Tams were the two biggest schools in Scotland. We were about 2000, but 75% of Saint Tams was male, because most west end ghirls attended Notre Dame school for young ladies. We got the female overspill. ;))

  23. Gene and Bigbhoy

Got my geography ( it wasn’t my subject ) badly wrong. So Crampsey went to Coatbridge.

Jack McGuire was my history teacher but he was active amongst the Polish community in Scotland and he was decorated by the Polish Government.

He was also deeply Catholic and very anti Soviet, anti Socialist and fanatically anti Marxist. This at a time when CND was on the rise and anti imperialism/ colonialism was seeeping the earth.

He actually handed out copies of a book “ The Communist Challenge to God” which was a denunciation of atheistic Marxism which was fascinating for some of us. This was my first exposure to Marxist ideas and as a young open minded lad it all made complete sense to me ( the Marxism that is ). That is not what Jack intended.

My maths teacher was another Crampsey- a man in a double breasted green suit and chalk in hand. Do not recall Mrs Marley.

  24. Garcia, Gene, Tontine tim,Big Bhoy,

Crampsey was best mate of a big Celtic fan. It probably suited him best when working with media. He certainly had strong Catholic values.

Jack McGuire never lost the opportunity to give a true version of Irish history that was not in the history books.

    Lennybhoy, speedy recovery. KTF

Auldheid , you are greatly appreciated by any true Celtic supporter for all the work you have done and also for the poor comments from those that have a different agenda. A big thankyou to all the Resolutioners.

I have never liked Mourinho or his teams, since I first clapped eyes on him in a stadium in Seville in 2003. Anti fitba exponent. Dive and cheat to win at any cost manager. Hun like.
