The difficult task of replacing Commons

447

Brendan Rodgers would have looked at Kris Commons age, position and recent injury record and assumed he’s not going to get much from him this season. He’d not be the first Celtic manager to come to that conclusion about Kris.

Kris has created more chances per minutes played than anyone in a Celtic shirt over the last decade, and that includes the golden era of Nakamura, Maloney and McGeady, which brought us into the Champions League knock out stages for the first time.

He didn’t fit Ronny’s system and might not fit Brendan’s, but to win leagues, cups and qualify for Europe, you need someone who can be relied upon to open obstinate defences, and we’ve struggled to find a better tool for this job than Kris Commons.

He’s in the final year of his final Celtic contract, but if he goes, I hope it’s not before 31 August.

    Thank you very much.

Re James Forrest article. I got there in the end !!! Even then, it disappeared twice whilst I was reading it but I managed to retrieve. Well worth a read. As the article actually praises Sevco fans, they might even take on board what James is saying.

Anyway, thanks for all your responses but it is a goodnight from me.

    Winning Captains ….

Did you ask your (nearly Rangers player) mate Mr. Hartson about his SPL comments at the after dinner speech at the cricket club?

Nah….Didn’t think so…..or did he say them in French lol?

Hot Smoked … Sevco fans have been getting told the facts since circa2010. They refused to listen because the messenger was Timmy/that pape/a teague/the Vatican/some fenian. Leave them to it. We tried.

Here is a wee online drink just for you….

The Zombie, is a cocktail made of fruit juices, liqueurs, and various rums. It first appeared in late 1934, invented by Donn Beach of Hollywood’s Don the Beachcomber restaurant. It was popularized soon afterwards at the 1939 New York World’s Fair.

  6. Just had a text from an Evertonian mate telling me the latest rumour in Liverpool is Lucas Leiva to Celtic .

Did your mate Hartson ever tell you just how close he came to signing for Rangers?

Did he ever tell you about a ‘cultural’ night out he experienced in Glasgow just before this?

    Aburntoutcase,

What I was saying was that if Scott was eased out of the picture, it would be done in a similar manner to Monk at Swansea, I.e., amicably, with nothing as common as throwing a strop or, as it is known, toys out of the buggy. ( nobody uses prams nowadays).

Thom thanks for the reply. I don`t mean to suggest he is being pushed aside. IMO it would suit both parties.

Respect is a two way street and BR commands it as well as demands it.

Brown will be well looked after.

Club captain has a great responsibility, as much off the field as on.

Thom I agree, mate. Do you think he has a long-term future on the pitch? I don`t, yet I would love to be proved wrong.

    WC,

I long for the day when UEFA act on the wrongdoing of the SFA and issue an unequivocal verdict on Sevco.

Unfortunately, I suspect that I may have a long wait.

Why are the Tory party any more scum than any other political party?

They are ALL scum….every single self serving politician is SCUM

    Ah, those were the days.

It doubled up as a barrow for taking the washing to the Steamie at the Woodside Baths.

    Aburntoutcase,

It will probably be a gradual transition, perhaps on a horses for courses basis at first.

One thing we can assume is the BR will not hold anyone back.

Possibly it will happen sooner if he either identifies someone in his squad who can do the job that Brown does, assuming he wants a similar player, or, he brings someone in who possesses the required attributes of leadership and drive.

Brendan Rodgers has nicer teeth than me….he is also a better football manager than me….(I’ve just never had the opportunities that he has had apart from Football Manager lol)

Brendan Rodgers will be the best manager Celtic have had since Jock Stein
