The dirty little subject

323

When (not if) the season is called, the dirty little subject will rear its head, Celtic have five postponed home league games on the season ticket.  While Celtic are likely to be Last Man Standing after the financial crisis that will engulf the game following on from the health crisis, we are set to lose tens of millions of pounds and will inevitably lose money over this period.

What next season will look like remains uncertain; we don’t know when football will resume behind closed doors, when fans will be able to attend or enough clubs will survive to give us a competition.  With so many doubts, we cannot be complacent, which is why players and execs took a pay cut and non-essential staff were furloughed.  In short, we need to retain as much income reduce costs where possible.

There is another side of this story.  We have over 50,000 season ticket holders, many of whom have been without an income in weeks, some are on reduced wages and, inevitably, some will have no job to return to when furlough ends.  As a club, we have to offer a refund for those five games, cash is too important for a family that has none, they cannot put food on the table with a Superstore voucher.

Partick Thistle offered fans a refund and those who needed it, took it, but 96.5% of season ticket holders left the money in their club.  By any standards, that is incredible.  I suspect the demographics of the Celtic support are different; we have plenty of wealthy fans, but I know many who put a huge portion of their disposable income into following Celtic, almost certainly a higher percentage than Partick.

More Celtic fans will need a refund to get through the month, so it should be offered – as soon as possible after the season is called.

My reading of it is that the SPFL are holding off calling the league until Sevco produce their dossier.

They fear Sevco using the calling of the league as a pretext to withhold their dossier.

  3. An Dun, those were my thoughts as well. I go further and think that the Hun are doing this whole thing as a way of playing their customer base while at the same time implying that the Taigs are behind the ‘League-being-called’ moves. My opinion is that Celtic should sit tight, say nouwt, agree to any and every extension and let the Hun squirm because as sure as mushrooms love sh*i and the dark, the Hun is as desperate for the League’s money as any club. There is one club in the SPFL that can out-wait every other one, and that club know they WILL be crowned Champions!

One other thing you can be sure of, no matter the paucity of evidence from the Dosser’s Dossier (IF it ever sees the light of day) it will not be examined, criticised or vilified by what passes for media in this country.

  4. Monaghan1900 on

They’re FFin’ gentlemen with a dossier:

“[Sevco] playing the gentleman over the release of the dossier – but which SPFL club will leak it first?

Releasing it early to give clubs time to digest it over a weekend rather than just 24 hours notice before next Tuesday’s SPFL meeting.

The club will surely know that doing so gives the dark forces more time to spin their webs of deceit and evasion.

The moral high ground does of course mean nothing to the filth we are dealing with and their lackeys, both paid and unpaid, but it is good to see the club acting like this and playing things by the book.”

    ——

“Playing the gentleman got us into this mess.”

    ——

“Who’s the go to Tarrier journalist of choice?

Will be more than one – each journo will be told to go down their assigned prong of the narrative – the old pincer movement. Jackson probably on the easier big bad [Sevco]. A more subtle approach required on kumbaya prong narrative”

    ——

“Regardless of our evidence and how good it is at proving the SPFL in the wrong the majority of clubs, led by Celtic (or controlled by Celtic) will have already decided to not only dismiss it but use it to attack us further. That said, depending on how good the evidence is we might be in a position to ignore them back and go straight for the jugular.”

    ——

“They are all sewer rhats and Celtic will have either paid off a few, offered incentives by way of players, or via help with loans or offered friendlies.”

    ——

” I think the delay in issuing it earlier in the week was because the meeting of Premiership clubs on Monday was postponed until today and we were goading them into making a decision before we released the dossier.

So we delayed. They‘ve now delayed as well. Co-incidence or tit-for-tat? Should we wait until tomorrow now and call their bluff again? Or have things gone too far and we have to get it out there?” (Probably, Sammy…Probably.)

    ——

“We have very little obvious support from other clubs and the evidence really needs to be like when the Scooby Gang take off the ghost’s mask to reveal it was old Mr Lawwell all the time.”

    ——

“All that’s corrupt with our game will play out before our eye” (Which one, Dave?)

    ——

“Don’t think anyone inside Ibrox is in any way worried about the content of the dossier being leaked.

Good manners, having morals and playing the game as it should be played are what distinguishes human beings from products of the primordial swamp.”

    ——

“As some smart cookie here suggested it should have been watermarked,”

    ——

“Any poster who regurgitates the mhedia’s opinion on this in here should have their icon/photograph replaced by a dunce’s cap or a donkey.”

    ——

“Sitting on this while asking us to pony up for season tickets to watch a race between Shergar and Red Rum while sitting on the very thing that tells us one horses legs are tied together isn’t on.” (Don’t think it would make a huge difference with either of those horses, Sammy.)

    ——

“You never know we might not show all of our hand today. Maybe just enough to give the sweetie wifes something to chew over, and keep an ace up our sleeves for the meeting later on . Just a thought since we have played it well up to now.

I think that will be an offer to deal with the cost of an investigation. That’s the biggest hurdle in getting some teams to vote as they are more interested in cash than integrity” (You mean bribery?…Sound)

What happens if a club has an outbreak and they can’t fulfill their fixtures due to players being quarantined?

  8. Say la Liga gets back playing and Messi goes down with it. Are we ignoring the fact the league outcome has been significantly impacted by corona virus ?

Yes, we are. But this is not about integrity, it’s about money.

Fake gear from Turkey, what a surprise. On the other hand, my middle daughter works in The Coved ward and was given a present from a friend in NHS England of a rather splendid NHS approved PPE “jacket/top” and another present from a NHS Scotland consultant psychiatrist of a face mask and was told she couldn’t wear them as they were too good, i. e. Better than everyone else’s on the ward. Great, eh.

Sort of get their point, but…..

Don’t think anyone has addressed the issue of player’s insurance. Discussed on here for a short while but ignored elsewhere. Would elite players risk their livelihood?

  15. The 400,000 PPE gowns sentby Turkey, seemingly don’t meet British safety standards, whatever that means.

So far,British safety standards seems to be not having gowns. No complaints from Italy and Spain, who they also supplied.Maybe it’s just a “British”thing.Surprising,as they were sending their armies into combat with the wrong uniforms,no boots,,for their wee invasions of countries with warmer climes.

Maybe it’s just a very British thing.

  16. Last thought on the PPE from Turkey. Before recieving 400,000,you would have thought it might have been a good idea to say,OK,send us over a couple of samples for testing. No?

  17. Turkeybhoy

Yes, but they should have asked for samples weeks before they did. That would then have given them the time to decide before it was needed.

  18. The first shipment of PPE kit that arrived in Ireland from China also contained a quantity of gowns that were unfit for purposes, The sleeves were not long enoigh, just came to below the elbows .

Things seemed to get sorted out fairly quickly and we heard of no more complaints since.

  19. So apparently the dossier has been delivered. Call me a cynic but the fact Sevco haven’t leaked it at this stage suggests to me they’ve got nothing.

  20. Apparently their bloody Dossier has over 200 pages, feckin hell it’s not Brexit or is it.

Yep you make good points. Apologies for being so derisive. And another thing… my grandson’s fake Celtic top bought from Dalyan market last July has outlasted the one bought at the Celtic Superstore last September.
