There are names suggested as being on Celtic’s shortlist, but there is no informed comment. This mirrors the appointments of Ange Postecoglou in 2021 and Brendan Rodgers in 2023.
The day Ange accepted the offer, almost the entire body of Celtic fans had to look up how to spell his name. Brendan’s return was met more by incredulity than expectation. The weeks before Ange’s appointment influenced Celtic. While John Kennedy was interim manager, the club openly pursued Eddie Howe.
Howe was (and is) a successful manager, Celtic were keen and most of us believed he would have been a good fit. That positive narrative seeped out of Celtic Park, only to crash when Howe declined the opportunity.
Compare and contrast to the open briefings last month across the city, as sources close to the club churned through a number of candidates who were close to being announced as manager, only to decline.
Information is currency and those low on other currencies can use information to buy favour with the media. Whether the information is good or bad does not matter to the media, who only need to attract eyeballs. If we are told Steven Gerrard is to be appointed manager within a few days and it doesn’t happen, they have another story to tell us when the bomb drops. Everyone wins (not really).
The Eddie Howe fiasco was a lesson in discretion. Business like this is best conducted in private. All we know for sure is that the boards have been cleared. Brendan’s crew, alongside John Kennedy and chief scout Jay Lefevre have all left the building. I don’t know who will be manager, but he will be the first of several new appointments in the coaching and scouting department.

Hola
No preferences then Paul? No indication of who you think best fits your preferred business model?
Monsieur Nancy at 2/9 on (Bet 365).
Much like MoN and Shuan, whoever it is will be immediately written off and disparaged by the usual suspects.
You can see then gathering already.
Thankfully, most Celtic fans will look upon it as an exciting new chapter and wish the guy the best of success.
“Compare and contrast to the open briefings last month across the city”

Why, exactly???
——————————
“the first of several new appointments in the coaching and scouting department.”
———-
Maybe we can get wingers who can actually wing! Pretty low hit rate on that front this past while.
The bookies cleaned up over media fuelled speculation over who would be next to take over at Ayebrokes, and they see value in encouraging similar speculation at Celtic. Thing is though we have a management team, led by Zen Master Martin O’Neill. Ergo no need to panic…..
Paul ‘… he will be the first of several new appointments in the coaching and scouting department.’
Any new appointments planned in the :mistakes have been made from which we will learn” department?
Or the ‘world class in everything we do’ team ??
PS I don’t care if the new boss is a rank outsider as long as he’s more outsider than rank. Bomm-boom !

I’ve read all the posted articles on Wilfred Nancy and also watched the highlights of several
Columbus Crew games in the MLS.
The team was energetic , cavalier a bit gung-ho. But nothing great All the games were fairly open and I didn’t think they dominated or had control in any of the games.
It was win the ball and charge up the park , press high and shoot on sight.
Can he deal with 10 behind the ball , cloggers, MIB …..
It would be a gamble if it was Nancy.
Paul writes: All we know for sure is that the boards have been cleared.
Many supporters would prefer to read that; ‘The Board has been cleared’.
Anyway, If it is Wilfried and his Celtic team has a sequence of inexplicable tied matches, would the redtops shreik about the:
Nancy Drew Mysteries
Coat has already been got !
Should have gone for Howe in 2019 but of course we went down a different route.
I’d have liked to have seen Adi Hutter in the mix. Impressive record over a number of years and clubs now.
Available now as well, although I imagine he would have options at clubs with more ambition.
Whoever becomes manager needs to bring back Kwon immediately. World class player spotted by the Lawwells
Marti Cifuentes has Leicester playing VERY nice football…suggested him a few weeks ago…
The structure is all fine though remember as Dermott empties the full backroom team and scouting departments. When was the last time we won a european knockout tie? All this under Lawwell’s watch.
About 5% of the boards have been cleared……a new manager changes very little in the grand scheme of things
Thanks, a very interesting read.
The media game might have changed beyond what anyone would have expected over the last ten years but the basic principles stay the same.
A return to a more straightforward relationship with organisations and people who try to damage Celtic for their own gains is probably the most important change to our communications strategy. A single voice with a single message and only for Celtic.
Beyond that theres a very obvious need to communicate much better with everyone who wants the best for Celtic. The media landscape has changed so much that total control over the messaging is impossible, and it cant be done without committing valuable energy and resources but its imperative that we try to break through the huge amount of noise out there and engage constructively with the many fans who only hear negative voices that are poorly informed and driven by self-interest.
Not about the manager yet, but when he comes for sure. He’ll need all the help he can get, especially if he’s someone that the experts like me don’t know much about :)
No use bringing in a manager, and lumbering him with the weight of the Boards little peccadillos.🙄.
New manager.New order,or nothing changes.

Aye , and we’ll keep our season tickets 🎫

Can’t agree with your claim Eddie Howe is still a good manager, sizzle without the steak.
We got away with one when he didn’t sign fr us methinks

Turkeybhoy, spot on

Terry Cassidy ( mind him? ) CEO that thought football managers were a pure waste of time and money.
I suspect that there will be a sizeable proportion of our support that will start to get their knickers in a twist , if we don’t announce who our new manager will be before the end off the international break .
Personally I want us to take our time , if it means that we get a better appointment.
I prefer the correct man is chosen , not the man who is available quickly .

I couldn’t bear another transfer window, of MON rambling, “We might do something, – we could do something – we’ll try our very best to do something“ .

anybody who actually bets on stuff like that – given the amount of media pish- should give their money to the nearest responsible adult and go sit in the corner and play with their Lego*
*other plastic-based toy-building products are not available
The awkward moment when you openly admit you’ll immediately write off and disparage the new manager whoever it is.

He also has Leicester 12th in the Championship and some of their fans would be delighted if we took him. I refuse to believe he’s anything close to the best option.
Don’t discount Nicky Hayen. He is very keen on a move to Celtic.

Tom- if we had any ambition to get with the times,if Hayen is keen (he’s my first choice),we get him,his coaching staff and scouting team,we have the money to do it.
As far as I´m aware, Mr Tommy Burns is the only Glaswegian to have managed Celtic ( not counting King Kenny´s brief reign ) . He coached Celtic too, took an interest in the young players coming through and welcomed to the club the first influx of foreign players, offering them a family which so many belong to now. I believe John Kennedy, Willie McStay, Stephen McManus and others carried on Tommy´s work and gave the incoming players an identity to preserve. Now that JK has gone, I´m not sure how much of Tommy´s legacy remains, to some extent even Brendan Rodgers was a product of Tommy´s as he was a coach under him at Reading. Willie Maley was from Newry, Stein from Burnbank, McNeill from the blessed Bellshill and Wim the Tim from Rotterdam but Tommy Burns was from The Calton ! The same place that Celtic are from. In these growing times of decentralisation we can´t afford to lose sight of our roots and the knowledge that built this club. We shouldn´t be calling players assets and planning to sell them on to fit a business ideology, Every talented player should want to play for Celtic and nobody should want to leave. Paul McStay is the example.
Yes – Eddie Howe and lessons learned…
He said he’d only take the job if Celtic employed his backroom staff.
He repeated that for four months.
When Eddie Howe and his backroom staff were ready to sign.
Celtic PLC: No, no backroom staff Eddie…
So listening ears please Celtic!!
On the discretion front…
The coward that went to the Sun and the princpal shareholder and his hissy fits won’t cut it…
Micheal Nicholson, on mute should suffice though…
Hail Hail
GEEBEE1978 on 12TH NOVEMBER 2025 2:28 PM
I hear what you’re saying but…..
He only took over at Leicester at the start of the season…he’ll still be bedding the tam into his style….ive watched Leicester win and lose so far this season…but their style of attacking play was what I noticed most….its not all ball to feet either..its playing into space ahead of the player for him to run onto…if the players continue in this vein I think they’re only trajectory will be up….
They’ve been good to watch and SHOULD get better is all I’m saying….
Personally I’d rather have Knutson..but knowing how we’re operating at the moment I’d guess we’d be low balling…if that IS the case I’d give Cifuentes a go..
The problem with Howe was not one of discretion – it was one of accepting a verbal agreement as Gospel and sitting on our hands for many weeks as a result.
Brendan leaked, as did Ange, before they were announced. Everyone the Huns interviewed was leaked. This is football in 2025.
The lack of leaks indicates inaction on our part, not discretion.
What I read/heard was Howe wanted the job but couldn’t persuade his back room staff to sign up..
31003
Yeah, I’m not writing him off – he could come good but he might also be sacked in the new year. Unknown quantity and results haven’t been good. If we’re going down the Championship route, McKenna all day for me
31003 2:52 pm,
Yeah, that was definitely a good one:))
Here’s another…
Every pound goes back into the club:)))
Larks….
Hail Hail
Discretion, is it. Now I’m sure someone’s trolling. Celtic can’t preach to anyone on discretion, or did we miss Desmond’s “three wines deep” rant all over the official Celtic website a couple of weeks ago.
Discrete, it wasn’t.
Ronny Deila is a safer bet than Nancy. And we do like to reappoint !
Deila has won leagues in Norway, Scotland and was successful in the MLS.
Nancy would represent an unacceptable risk – he’s nowhere near as experienced or as successful as Ange so the comparisons don’t add up for me.
I’m not advocating for Ronny btw. I’m just highlighting that Deila has more experience and a better CV than Nancy.
