It was Brugge who showed the way in our Champions League game in November last year. They pressed Celtic in the middle third which was enough to inhibit our ability to progress the ball into advanced areas. Other managers watched.
Five weeks later, Phillippe Clement copied these tactics in a 3-0 win over Celtic at Ibrox. Barry Ferguson followed this up in March, winning at Celtic Park, then again in a draw at Ibrox. Already-eliminated Young Boys came to Celtic Park, went man-for-man in the middle and lost to a late own-goal.
We watched the same show in the Scottish Cup Final in May: 120 minutes of midfield suffocation before a penalty loss to weaker opposition. It was no different over 210 painful minutes against Kairat. Yesterday’s failure to land a glove on the most nervous defenders in Scottish football follows a well-established pattern. Russell Martin changed every tactic he has used in Glasgow and reverted to the play we all know succeeds against Celtic.
Games with against lesser sides and without Kyogo, Jota and Kuhn have floundered in the middle of the park. We seem to be focussed on adding attacking options today. This is necessary but attacking players are blunt if you cannot break a soft press in the middle of the park.
We got draws at Ibrox, against Kairat and in the Cup Final because we can defend well – Liam Scales was well worth his Man of the Match accolade. That will probably be enough to win the league while Newco beat themselves and the Hearts project is too new. But we are at a tactical cul-de-sac. Chris Davies did more than put the cones out.

Fofana goes to Charlton. Any more on the list or was Fofana bottom?
In an AGM held on May 31, 81.9% of shareholders voted to approve the annual statement by the chair of the remuneration committee and the director’s remuneration report for 2024.
—
using this as an example,
these figures, as given out by said PLC, make no mention of how many individual shareholders actually voted.
the answer in almost all PLCs is a small number.
do you know what happens with all the votes of the large number of shareholders who dont vote?
yip, their votes automatically goes in favour of the execs pay rises.
and this is how these greedy bastards perpetuate their unbridled greed while laying off staff and cutting staff benefits
James
If I remember correctly…I may be wrong…but didn’t the sheiks (sp) have to buy the naming rights of Man Citys stadium to enable them to buy players with the cash “generated” as they couldn’t just hand over money a là the 49ers have done?…
Looks like a few loan deals then!!
Popped out for dinner.
Came back to 3 pages of expected content.
Unoriginal doesn’t cut it.

I HATE THE BOARD FULL STOP
Typically amplified on days were Celtic lose a match or on the last day of the transfer window.
With the agitator in chief choosing his moments to post frequently … then disappearing like sna’ aff a dyke when his job is done.
Monday morning quarterbacks
Rebels without a completion date
Barrack room lawyers
Trotsky Wannabees
Some poor soul resurfaced today who wanted to storm the wrong AGM !
Doesn’t that say it all ?
Anger is easy. Thinking is hard.
Safe bet, everyone on here is frustrated with how things are going today, last Tuesday and the previous Wednesday.
Moaning is easy. Delivering outcomes less so
Suggestion to the top 10 angries …
Stop snarling and start effecting change.
Auldheid (who I’ve never met but whose content I enjoy immensely) even knocked up a playbook years ago … which he reposted today.
Go work the support, see if you have a mandate, and move the dial on the (frankly PATHETIC) 160,000 shares under a single fan umbrella control.
Turn that number into
– then 2,000,000 shares
– then 8,000,000 shares
(For the avoidance of doubt, those 3 wee bullet points? … constitute at least 5 years bloody hard work)
At that point, you’ll start to get genuine “ordinary fan” influence at board level.
And that board you lazily hate?
You can look them in the eye and hold them to account.
A pure RIDDY
BSR @ 7:59 pm,
Yes, the uber-fan and their Board crush are a tight bond.
Apparently there is no one that can do the job better.
It’s a very difficult job and they don’t make any excuses.
Leaving the recruitment of HVPs until today saves a lot of money and puts the Celtic Executive in a much stronger negotiating position don’t you know.
Will get to work on the lists;)))
Hail Hail
Nicholson is a total dud and should tender his resignation first thing in the morning.
How many disasters can one guy oversee in a single day, let alone transfer window.
Even the guy he’s brought in he’s paid massively over the odds for. Guy has got a very modest cv. Expectations for him are low but Gerry will present him like the new Messi.
He’s gutted us out. Feckn clown.
2 hours to go ……I even remember saying to someone it’s OK there’s 3 weeks to go ….what a fkg fool I am ….paying 2 million over for winger has echoes of last summer …..but that’s where the similarities end
I think everyone needs to calm down & just take a look at the bank balance. You know well 2 people were sacked for leaking the team information so why it has started again is that bank balance is just so sexy. The asset strippers are running the show but, look, just come over & get the feel of the warm, hot & exotic bank balance.
I honestly can’t believe they’ve done this to the fans and Brendan.
They are nothing but scumbag bast*rds & fans should hound them out starting at the next home game.
#BOYCOTTNEXTHOMEGAME
Back to Basics – Glass Half Full:
“And that board you lazily hate?
You can look them in the eye and hold them to account.”
It’s clearly more than you are willing to do.
But whilst you post your screed against fans who care about their club ponder this;
From Munich until now, the night when a Chelsea reserve who was our main target (after others had said no) turned us down to sign for Charlton.
That board we “lazily hate” has presided over THAT … to the club YOU love.
So my question is, isn’t all that anger slightly misdirected?
Not demeaning the scums new striker,I would not dare at the moment, but for £8 +2 million,I would be looking for a striker that actually scores goals.Idah scored 3 times more from the bench last season than this boy has in the past 3 years !!!!
In the dying hours of a window that lasts weeks we are being rebuffed by nonentities that would prefer to stay at Charlton ffs. High time our owners and board stepped back and spent their time and OUR money buying racehorses or golf clubs or something they give a toss about and left the management of our collective hopes and dreams to people that actually care about putting a team on the park that can reflect our ambition. The perennial shambles that we are forced to stomach while the suits continue to shamelessly line their pockets. We deserve a lot better. Shameful lack of ambition and competence.
I’m not worried too much about who the huns sign. However I’m totally scunnered by the boards reluctance to help the manager strengthen the team. They do not give a monkeys about the supporters. Only interested in the money they can suck out of the club for themselves.
we should boycott the Europa league package and look at ways in letting them know what we think of them.
Wasn’t Naibalance contacted and signed by thems all within one hour of the window closing all them years ago?….
In desperation…..we stole have time to sign young Bowie of Hibs…
Better than heehaw….
Board are sabotaging his title deliberately in my honest opinion & my mind won’t be changed on that.
It’s like when they had the Huns bang to rights for cheating & done nothing,
There’s someone or some people on our board that would like to see us lose this league title. So they can get one over in their personal rivalry with our manager.
Gonnae be some laugh with a new article from Paul giving us all BS excuses to make Brendan look bad and Peter & his merry men look like saints.
Geebee1978,
He wasn’t even on the list.!!!!!.
HOW LOW CAN WE GO.

Paul having a. Sabbatical tomorrow. 😇😇😇
Have we reached Shankland on the list yet?
D T Fofana turns us down.
Thank fuck. an absolute desperate attempt.
Give our new signed strikers a chance, remember ‘The Cannon ball kid’, I’m not saying any of our forward signings have that quality, between Kenny and Osmond, we might have a gem some where I hope.
Forfana, prefers Preston over Celtic, SHITEBAG, (IMHO).
He obviously knows his level.
Why is he even being mentioned?
any player who choses Charlton over Celtic has no confidence in their ability! He’s been a sub and loan for years for a reason. Sign a striker with arrogance and confidence in his/or hers (you never know with this board) ability.
desperation is not the way to run a professional football club – we are an utter embarrassment and its played out in front of millions watching rejection after rejection. Makes us look worthless!
BR couldn’t have asked for much if this is him getting what he wants.
Brendan will get what he wants !
Exactly!
IMHO (I have had a bottle of Red)
It looks like the damage is done, 2 hours to go you never know
If ever we needed to support our Manager then now is the time
I know one or two on here including our Editor want him gone
But the truth is he is all we have
Nicholson is not helping him, Lawwell certainly won’t help him and DD is invisible
Brendan even has to deal with a guy that set up a website with the strap line “not lazy journalism”
I get the sense that some people would rather Celtic failed than Brendan succeeded
The reality is, to win this league, it’s us, the players and Brendan
It’s going to be a long Winter

Have we reached Shankland on the list yet?
———-
Don’t joke.
Mind you , given our current shortage of actual strikers…
Sebastian Tounekti has played in 105 games as a pro since 2018 and scored the grand total of 10 goals. We expect our wingers to score more than that in a season.
31003 @ 8:35 pm,
My interpretation was this…
The new owners put 20 mn into R2ngers.
That is not football money.
However, because they make a loss, a substantial amount of football money is spent on none football costs.
If the twenty million is spent in the none footballing costs, it frees up the football income to be spent on players.
Many laughed and said 20 mn doesn’t buy a lot when you need a team rebuild, that’s true of course but the nett spend can be much higher is you add the sales to that.
How many times have we spent our transfer income plus 20 mn….
Hail Hail
31003
Still a troll BANGER
just back in from a very wet football
Have we signed anyone yet??
Deniabhoy
That guy should and would not have been a Celtic target. Sadly the manager likes that type of player
