It was Brugge who showed the way in our Champions League game in November last year. They pressed Celtic in the middle third which was enough to inhibit our ability to progress the ball into advanced areas. Other managers watched.
Five weeks later, Phillippe Clement copied these tactics in a 3-0 win over Celtic at Ibrox. Barry Ferguson followed this up in March, winning at Celtic Park, then again in a draw at Ibrox. Already-eliminated Young Boys came to Celtic Park, went man-for-man in the middle and lost to a late own-goal.
We watched the same show in the Scottish Cup Final in May: 120 minutes of midfield suffocation before a penalty loss to weaker opposition. It was no different over 210 painful minutes against Kairat. Yesterday’s failure to land a glove on the most nervous defenders in Scottish football follows a well-established pattern. Russell Martin changed every tactic he has used in Glasgow and reverted to the play we all know succeeds against Celtic.
Games with against lesser sides and without Kyogo, Jota and Kuhn have floundered in the middle of the park. We seem to be focussed on adding attacking options today. This is necessary but attacking players are blunt if you cannot break a soft press in the middle of the park.
We got draws at Ibrox, against Kairat and in the Cup Final because we can defend well – Liam Scales was well worth his Man of the Match accolade. That will probably be enough to win the league while Newco beat themselves and the Hearts project is too new. But we are at a tactical cul-de-sac. Chris Davies did more than put the cones out.

if i have my sums correct does that mean at 160,000 they have 0.17% of the shares ?
can someone check that for me ?
James F, can you not throw in your shareholding as well, tip the balance of power here ?
An Dún:
I remember a lead article here when we signed Nadir Cifti after chasing half the £5 million strikers in Europe (and not being willing to offer the £5 million for them) that he had been Ronny Deila’s top target all along. Don’t be surprised to wind up with a Chelsea reserve, the boy from Hibs and A.N. Other on loan just to be told that it IS what Brendan wanted and he’s the reason we’re sending HMRC another big cheque instead of spending big as the whole board had wanted us to do!
Yang deal off…..
CHAIRBHOY on 1ST SEPTEMBER 2025 4:24 PM
Can’t argue with any of your logic but I still fear that the Board decided not to spend a decent amount of money for a number of reasons :-
1. We don’t trust BR with big ticket prices, given his track record of late
2. We think he’s for the off
3. We need to retain those funds for the new guy and , crucially but mistakenly,
4. We should get past Almaty anyway.
All of the above suggests at least an actual strategy, even if no one else agrees with it ( I don’t).
Equally , as you say, it might well just be incompetence at getting deals done in which case heads need to roll , whoever the manager is.
HH
Well that tells you what our chances of getting in the wingers the manager wanted are.
We’ve lost the Champions League gamble. We’re now gambling with the whole season.
What a disaster. What an absolute disaster.
Worst transfer window in the club’s history, bar none.
Yang has been recalled.

We’ll do the same with Idah imo.

FFS there are ore hunterlopers on here than on KDS, but at least on there they are outed
I’m not really sure what you mean by hunterloper. Do you mean some of these guys are huns posting on here as a wind up? If so, name them and see if they respond. I believe most of the posters are Celtic fans in various states of distress due to this transfer window, the board, Brendan, lack of signings plus the poor form in the last couple of games. Understandable, no?
Shocking and embarrassing,
Where are our board lovers now?

The good news just keeps on coming 🤣
Its the complete scramble for anyone like we expected.
There never has been a recruitment strategy this summer.
There must be resignations after this window.
So, where once transfer window success was getting our primary targets in, we now regard it as retaining players that we no longer want!
We await the “Peter is Celtic through and through……
What a total and utter disgrace.
Brendan apparently already had what he wanted – Yang…
Remuneration Committee
The Remuneration Committee comprises Thomas Allison as Chairman,
Peter Lawwell and Brian Wilson. The Remuneration Committee
determines the terms of engagement and remuneration of the
Company’s Executive Directors and Company Secretary on behalf
of the Board. The objectives of the Executive Directors are approved
by the Remuneration Committee and performance against these
reported to the Board. The Remuneration Committee also monitors
the implementation of other executive and employee incentive and
bonus schemes. A detailed report is included within the Remuneration
Committee Report on pages 32 – 33. The Remuneration Committee
met 3 times in the period under review and all committee members were
in attendance at all meetings either in person or by proxy
Let’s go over your logic here TLWIO.
1. We don’t trust BR with big ticket prices, given his track record of late
Then we should sack him. But before we do we need to look at what the track record of the club in general is when it comes to signings; namely, the 2023 window and this one. Anyone on that board withholding money on the back of his record is having a laugh considering how much they’ve pissed against the wall.
2. We think he’s for the off
Publicly pissing on him from a great height as they’ve done would tend to do that. But it’s worth pointing out that organisations don’t normally behave like that. If the CEO is leaving you don’t just freeze all business to see what the next CEO might do differently. The mission in the here and now is still to win things, right? You’d think anyway. And replacing four or five players is an easier job than a full squad rebuild which is what you set up when you don’t sign first team players in this window.
3. We need to retain those funds for the new guy and , crucially but mistakenly,
Anyone who thinks this is board is giving “the new guy” tens of millions to spend independently of their barmy strategy hasn’t been paying attention. Anyone who thinks “the new guy” won’t be a Maloney style yes man for their Grand Plan is definitely not paying attention.
4. We should get past Almaty anyway.
A big assumption which was so obviously dangerous that the manager himself saw it a mile down the road.
“I don’t see … any method at all, sir …”
Please just sell Yang! He’s terrible. I can’t stand watching him any more!
The collapse of Yang’s transfer is due to issues Birmingham’s end. Move to Belgium a possibility

‘It’s like a new signing”
Transfer style guide
(7) Any overseas player purchased by Rangers FC under the age of 21 years is a ‘wonder kid’.
(8) Any overseas player purchased by Celtic FC under the age of 21 years is an ‘unknown youngster’.
“Swansea City are trying to sign Burnley winger Manuel Benson, after his move to Celtic fell through.
Celtic agreed a loan deal and he was due to travel to Glasgow.
However, after the Birmingham City’s £3m deal for Hyunjun Yang collapsed, Celtic pulled the plug on Benson’s move.”
Anthony Joseph
No way should rodgers carry the can for this shite show. How do you expect to keep the manager engaged in his job whilst stripping his team bare as soon as the chance arrives and every time the chance arrives. Changing the manager will not solve any problems more likely add to them. If we had a centreback who could break lines, a midfielder who could destroy play, a forward who could hold the ball and play the game and wingers who could beat a man much of our issues would quickly resolve. Tactics work when you have the players to play them.
Now battling with Preston and Charlton for a top notch striker 😂😂😂
Remuneration Committee blah, blah, blah.
A gravy train committee that would make the masons blush more like. Dress it up in any corporate pishspeak you want.
Meanwhile back in the world that matters the Board has no clue!
Auldheid @ 5:04 pm,
Good to see you posting on CQN…
DD’s position is interesting.
He got into a strong position after the Lennoxtown Academy share issue.
We were warned by a CQN lead at the time, that if the issue wasn’t oversubscribed then DD would buy the extra shares and hold over 30% shareholding.
As it happens, the share issue was oversubscribed yet due to his underwriting the share issue, DD managed to acquire the necessary extra shares anyway.
Once over 30% he assumed total control.
Why did the then Board allow him to do that?
It was Fergus McCann’s express wish that, that didn’t happen.
Many of the then Board members are still there, is DD beholden to them?
In June 2023, he made promises to BR at his London home before Brendan took the Celtic job, yet has now left him out to dry at the whim of an unsupportive Board.
DD vacillates between the Football club and the PLC Board, why?
If, you are minded to go up against our principal shareholder, then getting some of our supersmart supporters to look at the legality of that share issue may be interesting.
Hail Hail
Are the mute and Chris McKay on the beach in their sombreros rather than in the Parkhead transfer nerve centre?

you miss the point.
The 3 on the commitee are responsible for the executives salary and bonus, 2 of them being voting shareholders, and the chairman was able to set a figure of £120k for himself.

I can’t imagine what the young team are feeling….this is just horrendous….80 million cash rich probably another 30 in sales ….ffs

As with Chairbhoy – not arguing with your post but to be clear that ain’t my logic – I’m ascribing to the Board the only logic that I think they might have applied themselves, however flawed. And it clearly is flawed as the defeat to Almaty showed and this shambles of a window is reinforcing.
Having said that , IMO at least , the current management team and players should , irrespective of all the board’s failings , flaws or incompetence , have had enough about them to have gotten past Almaty.
.
the long wait is over:
No, no mate not having a dig at you but I’ve heard those arguments deployed.
St Stivis:
Excellent point.
That DOES appear to be a rather large concern, and one that needs to be folded in to the broader argument.
I don’t know if that’a violation of fiduciary duty or not, but I do know that it’s something the lawyer Auldheid mentioned should be looking at if we ever get the funds together to pay for one.
Gentlemen, please desist with your fussing and fighting. It’s not seemly. And it’s detracting me from my beer. So there now.

*of course there are many true Celtic supporters on here but a lot of that is because the huns are fueling them with the nonsense that they post , as for naming them, well I have in the past and all you get is “I have been a supporter since ****” or “I buy all the strips etc and have a season book, they forget to add that its all of sevco and at the bigot dome so why bother
