When this publishes, I should be a few kilometres into the Great Scottish Run. These events can be humbling. You see people there with messages on their shirts. ‘The big C’ gets a lot of mentions, in many of its forms, as does heart disease and conditions most of us will, fortunately, be less familiar with. Some simply have a loved one’s smiling photograph on their back. Their former feeling of helplessness matured into purposeful action.
I’m running for Celtic Charity’s 1254125 campaign. This is not something controlled or even organised by the club, but it is fundamental to what Celtic Football Club is. The Celtic Movement was called together in a church hall in November 1887 to alleviate the distress of poverty in those unable to feed themselves. It is different from other clubs because it started differently and has since walked unfamiliar roads.
The spirit to help others has been increasingly self-evident in recent years but I am sure the commitment has become more embedded as a result of 1254125. It is now part of our routine, what we know to expect from ourselves.
We will only stay different if you and I continue to insist we walk (or run) unfamiliar roads. We all worry about where our club is going. There is little we can do about many potential dangers but we can make sure Celtic remains anchored to the spirit which founded it. You can support 1254125 through the MyDonate page I setup to convince me I shouldn’t give up halfway through this run. Your support is appreciated.
Yesterday we lost Cllr George Ryan, or St John Doyle, as he was known on these pages. George touched the lives of hundreds of people but unless you were in direct contact, you would not know what he did for the people of Glasgow, for Celtic supporters in difficulty, or even for the Thai Tims. He was an exceptional Celtic man who lived the way exceptional Celtic people have ever since that meeting in St Mary’s Hall.

Well done jobo and all others that make the effort.
Never thought I would be watching a charity run on telly…cqn can make you do unusual things… Going to check up on the racing post.
Really enjoying my 15 minutes of fame here ‘-)
I see Anthony Stokes in papers today, talking about his wages.
I am not certain, but I recall that Celtic have various tiers of wages , scaled 1 for the top guys to 4 for squad players and youngsters.
Stokesy has shown himself to be a reasonable goal scorer at SPL level, but has made little impact in Europe. We certainly need more firepower, but I wouldn’t be held to ransom.

‘Andy Walker in the studio for the hun game.Started by going on about the hun finances, saying they are heading for Admin.’
####
The plan seems to be to run out of cash so that the only option left for them if they want to avoid administration is the sale and leaseback of assets.
And if you happen to be the one leasing back the assets to them you’re going to be quids in for the foreseeable future.
Summi. If he is from abroad and us in the under 3m transfer fee bracket and has scored a few goals , I fear John park will have him signed in the window and be out in loan within 12 months
Doesn’t matter what the East Kilbride weather is also
The ongoing argument about a striker has been done to death. The transfer window is closed until January. The same old same old moans get trotted out when we have a bad result. Get behind the team we have now and sharpen your typing fingers for New Year when something can be done. Until then, geez peace.
Saw clip of Chris Sutton on that chat show. He’s a laid back dude, eh. According to him however, I am a die hard. He wants to see us playing the huns again. I want to see them buried.

Well done JoBo. Fabulous effort!
Just a wee mention that as I did beat JoBo to my car after the game yesterday, I wonder how fast I would do the 10km?

Summi indeed he has been a special player for us away from home horses for courses
Gerry bhoy. As it seems to take our club 8 weeks of a transfer window to attempt something. Is it not a good idea to put pressure on the powers to wrap up a deal on the 1st day the windows opens than wait about till the last couple of days to pick up the dregs at silly prices. It’s obvious that the jan window will be crucial for our CL qualifying next season
Well said, Big Bad John:
Jose Mourinho’s calls for the FA to clamp down on diving feature heavily in many of the Sunday papers, comments which John Hartson thinks are a bit rich: “I remember a game in 2003, Celtic played Mourinho’s Porto and the Porto players were – it’s a strong word – a disgrace.
“They were diving and on their backsides everywhere. So Jose Mourinho has certainly changed his tone in these last 10 years.” (BBC)

Well done Jobo.
Sad news about St John Doyle.
CQN has lost a few greats in the last while.
Thoughts with his family.
Jobo Baldie
Well done fella!!
Afternoon all.
Firstly deepest condolonces to the family of George Ryan – aka St John Doyle – on his sad passing.
Not long back after visiting my old dad in hospital – found him a lot brighter, but his mental state isn’t great. Cheered him up by telling him that Miss Tally – his only grandchild – is coming out on Saturday for five days.
Did not see the game yesterday, but after reading accounts on here and the match reports in some of the rags we seem to have won quite comfortably in the end.
Not surprised at the antics of Lasley – it’s what he does when he lines up against Celtic. Oh for a Bertie Auld, Jim Brogan or Davie Hay in the side yesterday.
Efe and – especially Virgil – getting most of the plaudits, and quite rightly so imo. Virgil, to me, seems a cross between two of the finest Dutch players it has been my privilege to see: namely Ruud Krol and Frank Rijkaard. Nae pressure then!
I am well aware that he has a long way to go before he can be talked about in the same breath as those two – but he is progressing along the right lines, and I look forward to seeing him star for Holland in Brazil next year! Along with Efe of course – but obviously not in the same team!
Finally – a very well done to all the runners today!

15 minutes of fame now officially over as Mrs Baldie reminds me she’s proud of me whilst simultaneously handing my my list oh household chores with the parting shot of “…do them before you think about a drink”. It’s what’s kept us together these past 25 years ;-)
Could any of you I T whizz Bhoys bring over the link to last nights SSB. Me and gordhun dumbell had a little spat on it..

Poor attitude at times ….frequently..Not this Season..He has Scored or Assisted goals that were Never there..
Moderate scoring record..His Scoring Stats are up there with Hooper..
Dreadful scoring record in Europe..Also Down there with Hooper..
Off field carry on..Don’t think that is a Factor..What he does on the Park is what Counts..If his off field behaviour continued Celtic would Not renew..
Injury record..Every player is the Same..He is Twice the Player Now after injury..
PF..I was Antons (And Hoops)..biggest critic on here..he has been a Revelation since he came back from Injury last season..

So sad and shocked to hear about St John Doyle. He was a good guy and one of Wee Oscar’s green bucket army batallion leaders.

Just before I go, official results now in.
42m 50s. In a field of over 8,000 I somehow finished 270th (and was 240th male). And in the (ahem) 50-54 age group I was 12th. Chuffed!

Just popped in to CQN for the first time since post-match and I have just caught the sad news on George Ryan.
May he rest in peace.
Really sad news about one of life’s good guys.
I went to school with big George,a gentleman.Condolences to his friends and family.
Ghuys, been in touch with George Ryann’s wife, she sent me this:
Thanks Lennybhoy he just loved CQN it was his drug, couldn’t keep him away. We have no arrangements yet. But the house number is _________ and the address is _______________so you could let CQN’ers know thanks Linda xx.
If anybody wants the details let me know. I am and it doesn’t seem appropriate going out with my family to celebrate one of Sister’s 50th Birthday but will reply.
