Social media is a window into society, into families and into the heads of those (including you and me) who engage with it. You and me are OK, obviously, but out there, it’s a minefield. Think, for a second, about the adults who go online to brand themselves by expressing racist abuse at a footballer.
That’s bad enough, but think about one of the sports governing bodies presenting an evidence pack to the police, only for the police to tell them they don’t have the money to do anything with those responsible for such a desperate self-own,
Ahead of the EUros, The Football Association have funded the police to pursue criminals who indulge in racist behaviour online, because society apparently has other priorities. A spokesperson for the FA said, ““We obviously talk to the players about [racist abuse]all the time and now we are doing things differently.
“In the past what we did was put together all the data, effectively an evidence pack, to give to the police to prosecute. But this time we have gone a stage further where we are actually funding a unit within the British police that will then prosecute.”
Four years ago, the Euros concluded with two black English players on the receiving end of racist abuse, the like of which less prominent people of colour endure on a regular basis.
The perpetrators are doing the equivalent of sending The Bat Signal into the clouds, identifying as a absolute one for the watching. This will not be their only misdemeanour, you can be sure.
Football picks up the reputational tab for societies nutcases, because football provides a cover where they can emerge from the shadows, but be sure, this is not a football problem, this is a social and criminal justice problem. The FA deserve credit from all of us who value the game and its reputation.

Just to add, I don’t think we should look exclusively to sign young development players, but it’s a vital part of an overall strategy.
That is my point exactly. Last summer we recruited assets only and it was a poor strategy. None of them improved the team and we got a scare no doubt.
Balance…..
I don’t mean to come across brashly – sorry if that how it seems

I hope the German manager remembers to say “Gutt Fraullein” to Jane Lewis at the end of his interview tomorrow.
None of them improved the team and we got a scare no doubt.
—————
i didnt get a fright or a scare or a doubt.
i thought the manager and system would deliver a league win.
the first team squad was good enough and experienced enough to do this, he got jamesie back in the mix, got ccv, reo and callum back, and we went on a superb winning run.
the rangers were not bad, or terrible, but they were extremely limited.
the best player in the league, matt o riley, 19 celtic goals, 15 assists is only 23.
never scared of the outcome.
in brendan 9and the recruitement0 i trust.
but that is just me.
Also noticed that the brother of Amy Irons also has a gig with the BBC sports department and is in Germany on the license fee payers’ dollar.
St Stivs
You are fighting a losing battle.
Sadly this place reminds me of the Milton quote.
“The mind is its own place and in itself can make heaven of hell and hell of heaven”.
For some folk Celtic’s unprecedented success this past 25 years or so only frustrates and annoys folks who just use Celtic as something to moan about.
This makes them feel superior by suggesting they know better or could do better. Of course they never have to put their heads above the parapet and actually do it.
Sadly for these as each successful year goes by they just seem even more desperate in latching onto anything which might prove their points.
B78,
where have you been, i was worried about you.
a wee aside.
like an eejit i couldnt get an answer to a quiz question the other day.
in which county in scotland does the river eden reach the sea ?
– B78 suggesting someone comes across as superior – hilarious
Brendan Rodgers was already addressing the ‘infamous summer window’ before Christmas, offloading Tilio, Kwon, Phillips, and (Lagerbielke were it not for a last minute injury) to CCV. That’s nearly half of the nine not mentioning underachievers Yang, Holm and usually injured Nawrocki. Kwon was scrapped and never made a squad, after just 45 minutes of James Forrest’s testimonial.
Somebody went a bit project crazy with the quantity and quality of Celtic’s strategy, with a bit of help from loan players Brendan Rodgers won the double with Ange’s team. The amount of cash in a football club’s bank account doesn’t sit well with supporters, let alone our ‘biscuit tin’ generations.
6 of the celtic summer/winter 2023.24 season singings were on the cup final bench.
3 came on, all of them got booked.
one nearly scored the winning goal, another in fact did.
in the modern high turnover of players model do not be suprised to see another6,7,8 maybe 9 come in during this summer.
and why not, it works.
over ready for the first team, well up to them to force the way in, that they dont i blame them.
Those complaining about the number of BBC people in Germany…. There was an army of them went to Seville in 2003, so much so that 5 years later the huns in the BBC were moaning about the massively reduced numbers who went to Manchester.
“biscuit-tin” generation might apply to me.
like my own family finances, i am happy we have money in the bank after years and years of skint-ness.
dont just spend because we have it, make it work on good things, in our case analytically sourced players.
Btw…on flight back from Seville, connection at Stanstead for last flight to Glasgow/Edinburgh was missed. Producers couldn’t find enough hotel rooms for the number of personnel so chartered a plane in Norway which flew over, picked everyone up and took them home to Glasgow.
None of the infamous summer window signings started the crucial 2-1 league win in Parkhead and none started in the Cup final either, none is zero, is nothing
Looks like the dike has been plugged

Rumour has it that the Celtic credit card has been stolen.
Mr Peter Lawwell has not reported it because its cheaper than in Mr Rodgers possession 😀
Transfer speculation will continue and I quite like the speculation ( apart from ex players which are not inspiring imo. Reverse gear takes us back, we need forward gears. )
Anyway, im getting into the Euros. Come on Greg Taylor. Anthony Ralston, Callum McGregor, and James Forrest.
HH.
Gene- VG
and so what. how did it affect the outcome ?
was there a ruke saying players had to be playef ?
The more money Celtic bank the higher the level of supporter expectation will become, even the uber supporters have perceived grievances? It couldn’t possibly have been a good window for the business model never mind those that pay to see Celtic. We signed three CB’s and begin the summer with rumours of new ones, James Forrest in his twilight, was rubber stamped the best winger at the club, a full season after we signed three of his would be successors.
This summer somebody else will be heading up recruitment, that’s already been made clear, the only proper transfer strategy in Scotland begins again tomorrow, let’s hope we do a bit better. The net spend should go up, even if it’s only in relation to inflation, ( like the season ticket prices ) , especially given it could be dominated by the sale of Matt O’Riley, alone.
As a Parsimonious Lawwellite I demand the sale of O Riley as soon as possible…
3 million from Burnley (the football club, not the blogger/poster) will do nicely..
It may be the summer but heated driveways don’t pay for themselves
For every Kieran Tierney who gets a chance in the first team and grabs it almost immediately, there are players like Callum McGregor, James Forrest and even Scott Brown who take time to reach a point when they are major contributors.
Even players of repute, such as Graveson, Jaroseck et al have found it hard to establish themselves in Celtic
teams.
I’d like to see some of last season’s signings get a bit more time to see how they develop.
That is not to say we shouldn’t be buying some players who are a bit more experienced, but I feel that we sometimes have a tendency to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Even going back to very talented players like Vic Davidson and Jackie McNamara senior, we had quite a high number of players leaving Celtic to go on and become excellent players elsewhere after being released by Celtic.
Celtic Park can be a tough place to succeed.
WHAT IS THE STARZ
Widespread wall punching this summer
As ever CSC

Lots of good points there. I, for one, still have high hopes for young Holm.
We really are in a very good place and full of optimism that our recruitment will improve not just our domestic domination, but also hold our heads a bit higher in Europe.
Spaniel
Another who springs to mind was Gerry Britton. Used to watch him in the reserves a lot and he scored lots of goals and led the line well.
Got limited opportunities in the first team, didn’t hit it right away and got transferred to Dundee, I think.
Scored goals for them and for thistle so could do it at SPL level for poorer teams than us.
Sorry, Scaniel.
Auto correct just turned you into Spaniel.
Must be the first dug on the site since the days of Collie.

Of the more recent “ nearly made it” I always had a soft spot for Jackson Irvine. Really don’t know why he didn’t make the breakthrough.

Scaniel
Yes, he always looked decent anytime I saw him.
I suppose it is harder to get a good run at it with Celtic than with other clubs.
The combination of the higher standard of player in our first team and the high stakes in every game means that getting decent game time for Celtic.must be very difficult, particularly if you don’t set the heather on fire right away.
think we saw that with Kuhn this year. Obviously a player in there but his slow start has put him under pressure.
Not scary at all.
We won the league with 1 game to go. Never in doubt.
We won the cup in the 90th minute. Never in doubt.
We were lucky to be in the final in the first place beating Aberdeen on penalties. Never in doubt.
It was in doubt right from the start of the season. The celtic board made sure of that.
In the world of” Whatmighthavehappened” you can prove any assertion correct.
All you have to do is suspend the reality of what actually happened and replace it with scenarios that would have proved your point, if only they had actually occurred.
Ye old New Rangers must be dreadfully unlucky in being deprived of 12 of the last 13 leagues, 12 of the last 13 Scottish Cups and 12 of the last 13 League Cups.
That 4 leaf clover on our chest must be a lucky shamrock with all the fluke titles and cups we snaffled.
Pack up all my cares and woe
Here I go, swinging low
Bye Bye Rangers….
Meanwhile, away from the Euros…

Getting away from the constant moaning of people who jaye ,it seems, success,my hate at theoment is the constant naming up of the Huns transfer business.6 million, and 5 million players now being mentioned today. In for both.Aye right. So bad on of the players managers has come out and told the all to eff off
Sick of being pestered, and we know who by.Still desperately trying to punt the gruesome twosome one with at present,a knee injury.Laughable.
