The final curtain but what next?

440

In what increasingly looks like a facsimile of updates on the defence of Bagdad in 2003, Duff and Phelps continue to accentuate the positives about the potential bidders for Rangers Football Club or its assets but the charade is finally running out of acts.

This afternoon’s withdrawal of interest by the Blue Knight (singular), Paul Murray, the accountant who was a director of Rangers during the hugely controversial EBT years, and Brian Kennedy, should allow minds to focus on the most important question, what next?

Here’s a prediction for you:

Rangers Football Club will play their last game on Sunday 13 May 2012.  One day next week, possibly even before the appeal against the SFA Disciplinary Tribunal punishment, one, or perhaps more, of the prominent players who have been jockeying for position recently will commence proceedings to buy a club in the Scottish Football League, or form a new club, ask for permission to play at Airdrie or Paisley, and apply for SFA membership.  If membership is granted, an application will be lodged to join the Scottish Football League as soon as a vacancy becomes available.

In time Craig Whyte will sell or otherwise lose control of Ibrox Stadium, and if it is still in an operable condition, the football team hoping to profit from the demise of Rangers will look to acquire rights to play there.

You have witnessed an incredible period of Scottish social history in recent months.

  1. Like the SSN report that TBK ‘latest’ bid has been turned down. Could there be another final final bid?

Assuming the ‘press conference’ called by TBK for 3pm is to slag off the administrators. If I was D&P I would be having a pre-emtive strike by holding another one at the same time and announcing the PB.

There s a belief I like and it’s the notion that often the most obvious answer is indeed the one.. Ergo No one has stepped forward to buy the manks because .. Well take your pick.. Any one from ten..

Bottom line is they are skint, doomed and no one will touch em with a barge pole !!

Interesting prediction, I know you mentioned the SFL but do you know why Falkirk were barred from the SPL when they proposed a ground share with Airdrie United?

  7. FPLG is hopeful a preferred bidder for Rangers will be named later today by Duff & Phelps.

The manager spoke with the administrators today and revealed that TWO more potential buyers have come to the table.

He said: “I spoke to the administrators this morning and they are very encouraged about being very close to naming a preferred bidder.

“They also told me that two new potential purchasers have come into the frame and I believe Brian Kennedy has also spoken to the administrators.

“Whoever comes in I hope they have the best interests of the club at heart and can take us forward. That’s the most important thing.

“I am not about to get carried away but I remain optimistic.

“I know of one of the gentlemen in the UK consortium and I would be positive about that gentleman although I haven’t met him.”

McCoist has also called on the supporters to be fair-minded when a preferred bidder is revealed.

He said: “The fans have been nothing short of sensational but they must keep the faith. They are 100 per cent right to be guarded but they must give people a chance.

“They need to be fair and open-minded.”

I know what you referred to,was just pulling your leg.

Interesting, though, that Kohl suggested the surcharge would be a one-off. How he thought he could rebuild over 100,000 square kilometres of deprivation in the image of the west, with only one year’s tax surcharge, suggests he should be bidding for the huns!

  9. Ticketus is set to launch a legal claim against Glasgow Rangers Football Club owner Craig Whyte for £27m, according to BBC Scotland.

Octopus Investments owns Ticketus, a London-based firm which provided Rangers with “working capital” in exchange for future season ticket sales through its protected EIS.

Ticketus claims Whyte gave personal guarantees in connection with the four-year deal which is thought to be worth around £24m.

On February 14, Rangers entered administration as a result of a tax dispute with HM Revenue and Customs. It is thought the club’s total debt could reach £134m.

In February, Glasgow Rangers’ administrators Duff & Phelps said it was unclear on the whereabouts of £24m advanced from Ticketus to Rangers’ account.

It later clarified that £18m of £24m advanced had been accounted for and was used to pay off Rangers’ debt to Lloyds Banking Group when the club was taken over by current owner Craig Whyte last May.

It is thought that Whyte’s finance company, Liberty Capital, which owns a 10.8 per cent stake in Merchant Capital and is registered in the British Virgin islands, is expected to be the focus of the legal action taken by Ticketus.

AWD Chase de Vere and St James’s Place have both said they have a small number of clients invested in the Octopus protected EIS caught up in the Glasgow Rangers’ administration.

Last month, it emerged that over half of the money owed to Ticketus by Glasgow Rangers would have been wiped out if the Blue Knights Consortium had taken over the club under the proposed terms.

Ticketus pulled out of discussions with the Blue Knight’s Consortium over a deal to buy Glasgow Rangers Football Club in April.

Ticketus said it was unable to finalise satisfactory terms of agreement for its investors with the Blue Knights around restructuring its ticket purchase agreement.

Paul as Celtic men we are privileged to live to see this day.(for the past few years I began to doubt that it would ever arrive, I feared that the last 3 CL pots had helped them on their road.

I thank you again for guiding us (adolescents) through this process on a daily basis, so that we were less contaminated by the misled, misguided, misunderstood MSM.

We often needed re assurance and we knew where to find it.

At times I have thought that if this had happened pre timternet days that the likes of the SFA/SPL/MSM/Killie chairman and others would have given the huns the softest of landings.

  20. The very latest news:

Ticketus statement – we give up. You’re all mental. Why the hell did we invest any money at all? We know there’s no point hanging around here so we’re off. See you all in court.

Craig Whyte statement – the weather’s lovely in Monaco. Anyone want to buy some shares?

Paul Murray statement – I tried. I really tried to save the club, But that D&P wouldn’t accept the bid. They said that the debts were too high. I blame the past directors.

Brian Kennedy statement – Look at me. Please look at me. I’ve backed every bid, made bids that weren’t really bids and really really helped. I’m a great guy. Look at me.

D&P statement – the quantum required to coalesce into a bid capable of acceptance has yet to materialise despite the proliferation of bidders. In fact we’ve discovered a couple more today, We will keep working over the weekend. Now what was that overtime rate we agreed again?

Sally statement – so who’s giving me the warchest? I need to buy players for next season.

  27. We have CQN, the huns have rangers media with insightful blogs like this.

At lunchtime today the news broke that The Blue Knights are out of the running (again) for the ownership of Rangers Football Club, following administrators Duff & Phelps knocking back their bid for the club.

The announcement of a preferred bidder is expected to be imminent. Speculation over who it is, is mounting. If rumours are to be believed it is a London based consortium. However, there have also been whispers of Brian Kennedy having involvement along with “one big name”. The big name is believed to be Graeme Souness or Walter Smith.
