The form side of the league up next for Celtic

365

Playing at home against the side who last night finished 35th in the 36 team Conference League table is surely bound to give Celtic some respite from the recent avalanche of defeats.  Aberdeen travelled home from Prague during the night after a 3-0 defeat to Sparta.  A home draw against an Armenian side and a draw in Cyprus was enough to earn them a point more than bottom team Rapid Vienna.

Domestically, however, they are in fine form.  Their last defeat was in October and came on the back of a long flight home from Athens, where they suffered a 6-0 drubbing.  Since then, they have won five and drawn twice in the league, beating Hearts in the process.  Four wins and a draw in their last five games puts them top of the form table, two points better than anyone else over that period.

On Sunday, I expect Aberdeen to redeploy their approach to this year’s Scottish Cup Final, when they sat in and waited on a Celtic mistake.  Practically any result is possible, let’s hope a corner is turned.

The decline in Kaspars form is such that they may well get the one mistake with echoes of the cup final. But with one bewildered CB in our defence and various other players being asked to play roles which are a career first for them, I think Aberdeen can spread their bets around as to how they can go home with the points .

Of course we may score enough goals ourselves to better Aberdeen’s tally ,if a cross accidently deflects off one of our would be strikers bahookie to add to our mandatory one goal per SPFL game.

Imagine our “world class in everything we do” club worrying about playing a diddy team at home.

    Some may call it downsizing……

Wouldn’t surprise me if they play exactly like Dundee Utd – containment in the first half, apply 10/15 minutes of pressure/aggressive counter pressing after half time then park the bus.

I dont think Hearts will be allowed to beat Sevco.

They have to be kept in the loop by hook , but usually by crook!!

Let’s ignore our form for a second and assume we’re in a title race.

Do we want Hearts to beat the Huns ?

Let’s hope it doesn’t turn on a corner. Again.

  8. I always want Celtic to win. Always.

Same applies for Sunday. I also realise there’s a bigger picture and I’m not sure what difference a single result means when our entire football structure has so many issues to be dealt with.

Hard to feel fully energised. Hopefully, usual mood kicks in pre match

“All Celtic supporters behind the team.”

    If only that were true.

Can’t recall when I last felt as embarrassed to be a Celtic supporter as I felt sat in the Fair Play Upper on Wednesday night and the team performance was the thin end of that wedge.

Still onwards to Aberdeen, sparing a thought for poor Santa if he dares turn up at HT.

    An Dun.

I’d take a nil nil draw, 3 red cards each and lots of injuries please :)

When Sevco seemed out of it , and the likely title race seemed to be between Hearts and ouselves , Hearts were always going to be backed by everyone from the refs to the media . Now that the huns are back in the mix just watch the emphasis shift back to them . Personally if it’s not us , I would want anyone but the huns to win the league.

If we’re going to win we need to win early by taking our chances. We have no staying power. Nancy has been far from great so far but he’s also due a change of luck.

    It’s all becoming a little clearer now. . . . . . . . .

  13. Nancy is an employee and as such answers to the CEO and the board. If you were his employer, what would you do at present other than sacking him? The gutless board will, of course, say nothing. Nicholson will be hiding behind DD’s back waiting for him to decide when enough is enough.

As CEO, I would have spoken with him at least twice by now. Certainly after Hampden to tell him that results come first and to hold back on his revolution, to take baby steps towards his vision, that due to lack of quality and injuries the squad isn’t ready for such a major change in set up. Yesterday he would have been back in my office and the gloves would have been off. We cannot afford not to win the league. Ditch the wing and a prayer tactics or go back to Columbus. The lawyers will sort out the rest.

Could you imagine the stick a CEO would get for telling a football person how to manage the football side of things… What next? Do you want the CEO to tell him who to sign?!

Wilfried Nancy has asked his Celtic squad to overcome the ‘mental’ hurdle of set-pieces, ahead of their upcoming match against Aberdeen.

    Couldn’t make this up.

Liam Scales heading balls on the bench. Trusty and Scales mopping everything up until Fancy Nancy comes in an repeatedly throwing stun grenades into the dressing room.

He’s beginning to sound like a few on here.

  16. Mental hurdle 🤯 the players don’t believe in him the fans don’t everyone’s confidence is shot to 💩

    Total and utterly incompetent.
