The form side of the league up next for Celtic

365

Playing at home against the side who last night finished 35th in the 36 team Conference League table is surely bound to give Celtic some respite from the recent avalanche of defeats.  Aberdeen travelled home from Prague during the night after a 3-0 defeat to Sparta.  A home draw against an Armenian side and a draw in Cyprus was enough to earn them a point more than bottom team Rapid Vienna.

Domestically, however, they are in fine form.  Their last defeat was in October and came on the back of a long flight home from Athens, where they suffered a 6-0 drubbing.  Since then, they have won five and drawn twice in the league, beating Hearts in the process.  Four wins and a draw in their last five games puts them top of the form table, two points better than anyone else over that period.

On Sunday, I expect Aberdeen to redeploy their approach to this year’s Scottish Cup Final, when they sat in and waited on a Celtic mistake.  Practically any result is possible, let’s hope a corner is turned.

It’s not often you get a chance to make your case on national radio.

I don’t know the Peter guy from the Celtic Collective who’s currently on shortbread, Lions’ Den and all that but heavens poor Peter was not the best choice for that gig.

    I heard it too..

Agreed, was a bit of a tough listen.

The only points I got from him were that JF is still with the collective and that he is not convinced that there was threats made against PL 👀

At times you are much closer to the truth than you know. Rangers should never have been granted a UEFA Licence in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Not just 2011 when two reasons not to applied.

Are you telling me that the CST saw the Doncaster e mail that showed PL had seen The 5WA that a large number of Celtic supporters distrusted and decided to cover it up?

But now with a connection to the GB as part of the Collective with Jeanette involved The CT want The Board including PL removed?

Or are you confusing the 5WA issue with the request around Christmas 2020 with a pledge of £20K from Res12 shareholders to seek legal advice that the CT decided not to support?

The one where the reasons given were a misrepresentation of what was requested at a time when David Low was in situe and had personal connections for Res12 to fail?

BTW. Remember it was not me asking on my own, I was acting for over 100 shareholders who backed the original Res12 so drop putting me as a trouble maker.

Although UEFA said what they said it was because the shareholders reps hired a solicitor, that in spite of UEFA’s position, UEFA did respond to his letter of end of May 2016 using the reason that SEVCO were a new club /company . That meant they could not be sanctioned but neither could Rangers who were deid.

A helpful bit of ammo for Celtic supporters to use in the same club ding dong.

Did the CT promote that or did I miss it?

I appreciate what you say is in good faith but is it possible there was stuff going on you were unaware of?

  8. Lionsroar

Stuff like DL misrepresenting what he had heard elsewhere as legal advice not to pursue Res12 DL put to a CST member who informed me and I checked with the source?

  11. To clarify

If what took place in 2012 is seen through the lens of the interdependent nature of football rather than blue tinted ones then an a different understanding of events emerges.

That football is interdependent comes from reading The EU White Paper on Sport based on the work of IVO Belet

Specificity of sport of sport means what differentiates sport from normal business EU rules and the interdependent nature of football comes under that category so I’m not making it up.

Is because I accept football is interdependent by nature, which I think those running football do, then I think the way they do and interpret events from that perspective.

That does NOT not mean I like the behaviour of the Board, I’ve seen this coming for years and they have a lot to answer for, but I cannot help how others see me because of my view on interdependency.

It helps look at interdependency as a reason for the 5WA if hate for Rangers does not fog the lens of the mind’s eye.

    I read Belet’s work at the time but got a summary from AI which confirms my memory. One of the specificities of sport is interdependency, a factor that prevents full application of EU laws;

Here’s a short summary of the work from SAI by Belet a Belgian EU Member of the European Parliament Belet that contributed to the European Commission’s White Paper on Sport:

As a Member of the European Parliament, Ivo Belet served as rapporteur on sport-related issues, most notably producing a Parliament report on the Future of Professional Football in Europe in 2007.

This was a significant, broad-ranging review of the legal, economic, social and governance challenges facing football in the EU context.

Belet’s work sought legal certainty for sport within EU law, emphasised the specificity of sport, and addressed issues such as youth training, competition balance and social functions of sport.

UEFA+1The European Parliament’s report that Belet prepared fed into the consultation and preparatory process for the European Commission’s White Paper on Sport (2007).

Members of Parliament and stakeholders used Belet’s analysis and recommendations to shape the debate on how EU institutions should recognise sport’s unique features and challenges. westminsterresearch.westminster.ac.uk

His engagement was recognised in EU sport circles: Belet received awards and acknowledgement for his role as European Parliament rapporteur contributing to the Parliament’s input into the White Paper’s development and subsequent action plans. doczz.netIn essence:

Belet’s parliamentary work, especially his report on professional football, influenced the framing and priorities of the EC White Paper on Sport by highlighting sport’s unique legal and social dimensions and helping shape the Parliament’s position during the White Paper’s preparation.

If that what had taken place with any other club or any of the bigger clubs in the SPFL Celtic Hibs Hearts Aberdeen etc, do you think for one minute that the way this was handled by the Football Authorites would have applied to them, Yes or No is fine. If the answer is no which i think it would have been because Rangers in particular had they lost leagues euro spots would have kicked up such a stink in the Media which they control anyway that the interdependency you talk about would be irrelevant, they Rangers would have made sure the penalties were severe and long lasting.

  29. Deniabhoy,

I mentioned why we were not looking at Askou when the SUPPOSED manager hunt was going on.Here is a guy, right under our nose who has transformed Motherwell from a habitually agricultural team into the best footballing team in the league in no time at all, playing what looks very like the one that Nancy is failing at with us.We have tomorrow,Livi,on the plastic, then Motherwell away before Hun game.

    This a tough run.

  30. Nancy hasn’t a hope in hell of winning a League Title or Scottish Cup at any time, pay him and his backroom staff what they’re owed, and say cheerio. Then go and ask MON, Maloney and Fotheringham to come back. An auld heid on two young shoulders plus signing a striker, C/B and ball winning M/Fielder in January, and they could win us the League Title, which is the only thing that matters in the short term.

Will that happen? Probably not, this board are incapable of making decisive decisions, except when it is banning its own supporters.

Back in the day The Jungle would have been banned every couple of weeks by this lot.

  31. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Cross my heart, I’m not saying this to be contrary (I said the same thing yesterday) but I won’t be overly disappointed if the huns win tomorrow.

Provided we win (?) it will bring Hertz to within 3 points with us having a game in hand and the huns will still be 3 points behind.

I’d rather keep it tight until January when we could be in a better place if we beat the huns at home and then strengthen the squad.

Unfortunately it’s all ifs, buts and maybes. If we don’t improve, the outcome at Swinecastle tomorrow is irrelevant.

Many on Celtic blogs give it “Keep it lit” Keep the faith” “power to your indefatigability” easy to punch out the platitudes from a nome de plume, on CQN or SC good for the EGO but as a basis for removing PL it was laughable.

    ================

The above is an example of how the CST saw my efforts – as an EGO trip.

As I mentioned in my previous reply I and the other 3 Shareholder Reps were working for and were accountable to the shareholders who supported RES12 and if any of them are still looking in they can confirm they were kept well up to date on what was being done ON THEIR BEHALF.

But I will go further back: in late 2010 CQN posters were up in arms about The Famine Song and Referee Decisions and The Video Review Panel.

Keyboards on meltdown. I am the kind of guy who tries to do something when folk are unhappy about something and boy , were the Celtic Support unhappy.

So I called a meeting in The Old Fruit Market of CQN posters to see what could be done. The attendance was small but being me I kept a record.

    Everyone can see it at

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AgeIH8c8yPV5ZhY7WW5S_-6SzNuYJIHx/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=107947982974245186134&rtpof=true&sd=true

I only recognise ParkheadCumSalford still around although he could not make the meeting.

That meeting led to the joint CST/CSA Open Meeting at St Mary’s, one successful outcome of which was a change in the Video Review panel process as the result of a Resolution, Yes a Resolution that I drafted that Celtic took to SFA. It did not have to get an AGM vote, it just had to be something that helped Celtic tackle the problem, not condemn them.

However that is not my point . That first meeting happened because I wanted to do something about what supporters were unhappy about, EGO never came into it and never has up to this day and never will.

I have to say now, that had I known the egos I was up against in CST and elsewhere I would never have bothered devoting a lot of my time seeking changes that would benefit supporters.

I will have made mistakes along the way, but I was never in the game for myself ,apart from being able to enjoy watching an honest one had I been successful getting enough support from CST and GB at games- not one banner in support of Res 12 at CP, not one, that might have got the wider support interested.

I have tried to act with integrity all the way since 2010 and resent the attempts to undermine it from some folks with egos although I do not detect that in you.

It is because of that integrity I have said very little about what did go on but have record of events and also I respect the good work that you mention that the CST have done on the ground on behalf of supporters.

It is a pity the effort I have made on via social media and meetings on behalf of supporters is not respected in the same way by the CST.

  35. Looking at the SPL table as is, would prefer that Hearts win leaving Motherwell in 3rd place.

We absolutely have to win, and find a way to do it, to stay in touch for now.

Try to see the positive contributions that Kenny brings, which is getting into scoring positions.

Not seen a whole lot of Shin Yamada, buit he does have a bit of hustle and bustle about him, but, like Kenny, needs to just add a wee bit composure in front of goal. It’s got to come from somewhere

  36. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on 20th December 2025 8:10 pm

It is a new ball game this season, not the old one where the only result a Celtic supporter looks for is The Rangers one as both were capable of beating all other clubs. Now it is a competitive league.

Motherwell are playing really well and deserve third place but nearly all clubs bar Livi and perhaps Dundee (except when the pay us) will give each other a game.

How many behind where we in 2008 going into the final stages of the title race?

If the Collective are reading the room but want to sing then Silence Is Golden would be apt tomorrow.
