The future is Scott Bain’s, if he can grasp it

842

It’s just another story of a player sitting in the stands at Dundee before moving to the bench at Hibs and then a four year contract at Celtic.  All in less than four months.  Scott Bain is 26 years old and were it not for a personal issue with Neil McCann would still be at Dens Park.

Instead, he will see out his 20s as a Celtic goalkeeper.  He is 11 years younger than Dorus de Vries (37) and 9 younger than Craig Gordon (35).  He caught Brendan Rodgers eye and is now a development project for the manager.  The future is his, if he can grasp it.

Congratulations on your new contract, Scott.

If Jim traynor was involved with us the story would be Brendon gives Kilmarnock a massive compliment saying thier defence was so brilliant a team of firemen would find impossible to break through, ( aren’t we glad he isn’t ) 8> ).

  2. Mahe the website is run by St Mary’s RC Church in Abercromby St. Aims are on the “About us” page and further info will be posted on Tuesday.

As for renewal – it’s not a habit, it’s a love affair that started more than 50 years ago. I’ve known we were discriminated against and cheated since the 1970s so having “proof” doesn’t change that. The ECL is financially rigged in favour of the bigger nations and we still look to participate in that.

Bottom line is that I’ve supported Celtic as long as I can remember and will continue to do so as long as I am physically able.

Having wrestled with my conscience for a while, I have not renewed my seat for next season in Paradise. Did not want to take on debt for Scottish fitba. Will pick and choose my games next season.

I will be out tonight too so apologies for the quiz.

In response to the post- just two brief points

    1) There are planty of mineshafters attending and getting laid into the team. If only there were more happyclappers. Mind you, there was no reason to clap at the Killie game- very boring

    2) I am not sure how many fellow fans have been “betrayed”. There is actually a great clamour to go to CP and attend matches. Certainly many more voting with their feet and money in that direction, than are the group who are staying away because of corruption or dissatisfaction with the team.

    3) I’ll let ThomtheThim and Corkcelt speak for themselves but, in my mind, thya cannot be reduced to a representation as Board Cheerleaders. Their “satisfaction” with the Board seems to mirror your own- in that they have played the financial game well.

It’s that VFR you need to look out for – he’s the first one I’ve heard praising Ian Bankier :-)

  7. Forget the rights, wrongs or even silliness of the Firemen comments; in light of the Bradford Fire anniversary it’s a fitting time to remember the bravery, commitment and professionalism of our fire teams.

I have attended many courses where events of the Bradford tragedy have Been illustrated.

To our brave men and women who run towards fires , while we all run away from them; i salute you.

Thanks for your reply, but been ‘oot’ all day.

I am glad to report that I dont and I dont, regarding the Scottish Cup and the national team. I share the views of most of us about the farce that is the SFA and so do nothing to financially support their prime domestic competition. I will of course support our Bhoys via tv next Saturday.

As far as the national team is concerned Ive had little interest in them since I realised the extent to which any individual with any connection at all to a Govan club would get a preferential treatment, both management and players, including the most recent squad that included Jason Fn Cummings!!. It goes without saying that I have nothing but contempt for the current scenario involving Big Feck and the numpties that appointed him.

  13. Good to see Scott Bain signing up, recently we seem to have been spoiled in the GK department. So is Scott Bain Celtic No 1 material?

Well we know he’ll get well coached, we know he’s got bags of potential, so signing him up on a 4 year deal was a no brainer. Hope he makes it!

Good debate about the tactics and performance (around both teams) on Tuesday’s match vs Kilmarnock.

My take… though admittedly chewing a grisly sausage that was abandoned well before it was finished…

Brendan experimented with the tactics; of course there were changes to the (first XI) side but all the starters are first team players and blooding youngsters from the bench is something Brendan seems to love to do. Yet by and large it was the tactics he was experimenting with.

Now it has been said by many, that the way Killie set up and played (by the way I don’t except for one minute Steve Clarke’s defensive tactics and his player’s application, can be compared to Craig Levein’s crude and brutish execution of the same) was a lesson in how Celtic could play against top opposition.

Let me look at it another way. Steve Clarke is a very experienced and accomplished Coach/Manager. How often does Brendan get a chance to come up against such opposition in the SPL? Yet, he’ll definitely be coming up against it at Celtic Park in the UCL Qualifiers…

I don’t blame Brendan one jot, for trying out formations and tactics in a “dead rubber” that could give us invaluable insight/experience of teams using packed defences and closing down space at Celtic Park during this summer’s qualifiers.

  15. DD see you there. Wonder who will be first up all those stairs?

Regarding the Cup Final I should have said that I have something to doubly celebrate that day. One of my grand daughters has her birthday that day so along with my four grand kids, there will be my wife, two sons, their wives, one set of in-laws and numerous cousins, partners. And Tims to a man/woman. Pray for sun so the wee yins can hit the garden while the maturer Tims hit the seats in front of the telly and hopefully witness history being made!

  16. I refuse to allow scottish football authorities to determine if i will purchase a season ticket and watch our team.

Celtic are a cog in the overall scheme of scottish football, a big cog but no more. We can express our opinion but we must respect the collective view. sevco mentality is to bully and bite, we dont and we should not.

Everyone knows sevco is different club, its a fact, its a recorded fact and is accessible in companies house. i dont need the footballing authorities to tell me what they beleive. the previous club cheated and ran up debt doing in shame that is also a fact

  17. The Celtic Board

I am very supportive of the current Celtic Board and have been since Fergus left but mainly since Martin O ‘Neill time. I support them as much as I previously opposed the Board of Kelly’s and Whites.

Since Martin O’Neill arrived our Board have played a blinder. It is their success that caused the other mob to start cheating in order to compete with Celtic as Alex McLeish said. We are on the way to a double treble and our commercial and football success has moved us to 3 or 4 times turnover of our nearest rivals.

We have seen excellent development in Lennoxtown and around Celtic park with more to come. 7 leagues in a row are a testimony to their appointment of coaching staff all through the club.

Now everything does not always go the right way and I would like to see more comment on matters relating to the Scottish game. They have chosen to do this quietly and not publically. Some

criticism on this forum is well argued and thought out and I see signs that the Club has listened. The Celtic Trust, CSA and affiliation have all pushed for excellent initiatives which the board has listened to.

I think the Board still make errors but we seem to have a Board with foresight with a well thought out Business Plan

Other people had commented that a decade of dominance was arriving and it looks that is well on it’s way.

Celtic have done this in the face of a hostile MSM, hostile Football bodies and dodgy match officials.

There is now only one big club in Scotland. No one else helped us to get there. What we achieved was due to Celtics alone. The fans and their groups, the Celtic blogs, the Players and coaches, the Club staff including the Board?
