The gift of focus for Ajax

695

The last minute goal fell Celtic’s way at the weekend but Wednesday’s opponents, Ajax, were on the receiving end of the sucker punch, losing to a last minute goal at home to Vitesse, just a week after a goalless draw at home to joint bottom Waalwijk.  The Dutch champion’s only win in their last five games was at home to lower league opposition six days ago.

So what does this mean for Celtic?  It means Ajax have found various ways not to approach the Celtic game.  The last thing teams need ahead of a crucial game is an easy or flattering result, far better to show up your mistakes.

If Celtic take the lead, we might find Ajax confidence sinks rapidly, but they will approach the game full of focus, dangerous and with a point to prove.

It’s Christmas time…….

The Celtic FC Foundation (new name for Celtic Charity) Christmas Appeal has been launched.  The 125 Anniversary activities have considerably reenergised the Celtic Movement in getting back to where is all started – looking after those in need.

The Christmas Appeal aims to provide 150 local families who would otherwise go without, a Christmas meal, with gifts for younger kids.

The Celtic support will be helping people through Glasgow East Women’s Aid, Spirit Aid, the Glasgow Simon Community, Loaves and Fishes, The Wayside Club, Glasgow City Mission and Lodging House Mission.

Details of how to help online, and in person, are available here.

Offensive Behaviour Act

Scottish Parliament Justice Committee convenor, Christine Grahame, has agreed to discuss an Early Review of the Act on the agenda for tomorrow’s Justice Committee meeting.  Three members of the Committee are already committed to a Review, details on how to contact others on the committee – it has to be today, they meet tomorrow – are available here, on the Trust website.

  1. So it’s a German referee on Wednesday. The German ref in Milan was excellent. So I should be happy. But I have said before that there should not be a ref from one of the team’s neighbouring countries. Don’t like it.

  5. We should play 4-3-3 on Wednesday and get our wide players (Forrest & Sammi) pressing their fullbacks and Stokes pressing their centre halfs. Go 3 v 3 in the middle to try to stop them overrunning us there and let them play long balls to our defence who were excellent at CP against them.

  6. FORMER Rangers chairman Malcolm Murray today warned the Ibrox club could face criminal prosecution if they fail to hold an AGM before the end of December. Murray was a member of a group of shareholders who took Rangers to the Court of Session in Edinburgh last month to stop the AGM being held. The businessman will now have his name put forward forward, along with Paul Murray, Scott Murdoch and Alex Wilson, for election to the club board when the AGM is held. However, no alternative date has so far been set for the meeting by the two remaining Rangers directors, James Easdale and Brian Stockbridge. Murray today revealed that major shareholders have complained about the delay to the Glasgow club’s nominated advisor, Daniel Stewart. And he stated that Rangers face criminal charges and having their shares suspended if they fail to arrange the AGM before the end of the next month. He said: “Three weeks ago today, the highest commercial judge in the land ordered that what remains of the current board to put the nominations of the four of us, myself, Paul Murray, Alex Wilson and Scott Murdoch, on. If they didn’t it was illegal. “We are now three weeks on and it has not been done. No-one understands why. It seems it is just obfuscation and wasting time. There is no reason why. “I can tell you for a fact that major shareholders have complained to the stock exchange, to Daniel Stewart, the nominated adviser, and many of them have had no answers so far whatsoever.” Murray added: “The paperwork was all done for an AGM therefore there is no reason for a hold up. “The really big stick that could still be used, but that we don’t want to do because it costs the club money and we don’t want to waste the club’s money, is that some of the big shareholders could still call what is called a general meeting. “That forces the club to do it. If the club are thinking it is venues and costs there is a very rich fan who has offered to stage the thing at any of Glasgow’s major venues of which there are many, the new Hydro, the SECC. “I don’t see any chance that the AGM will not go ahead. If an AGM was not to happen I think it would be a criminal offence and the shares would be suspended.”

I don’t think Ajax’s Eredivisie form is an indicator of how the return fixture will go.

Ajax remain under the impression they are better than Celtic, and have a result to

put right, but Celtic will be playing a game more suited than Saturday, where Dundee

Utd dug in, and hit effectively on the break.

This game could not be more contrasted and Celtic at the moment are a better side,

when they hold, and break to score.

Your posts give me a good feeling about our supporters,it would break my heart to never watch the Hoops, but it would be a consideration if the Sevco tribute act returned, the compromise for me would be a return to the S/B where those 2 games were omitted from the package thereby no contribution from me to Zombies,do you think this could catch on?

  11. I was in a post office in Livingston last year posting a parcel – it was the day of the Barcelona game. I managed to leave my wallet which had my match ticket in it on the post office counter and headed back to work.

I got a phone call from my wife a couple of hours later

Wife “do you know you have you lost your wallet?”

Me in panic mode ” nope what do you mean!” as I frantically check my back pocket etc.

Wife “Well it’s ok, you left it in the post office and the husband of the lady behind the counter has just dropped it off”

Me “thank Christ, but could you not have told me that straightaway?!”

Luckily my driving licence was in the wallet and the lady in question asked her husband to pop round to my house to see if anyone was in and to hand the wallet over. Turns out the husband was a Celtic fan as well and was desperate for a ticket himself! Just wish I had a spare I could have given him. I will always be grateful to them!

Imo….we as Celtic supporters, should think about how we have been shafted, and refuse to turn the other cheek and just accept it.

If our board don’t want to comment on the concerns of their own fans, I think that speaks volumes.

What im asking is this: Who is it, that have made Celtic great…is it our magnificent fans and players, or is it a board who refuse to stand by their own, to the benefit of those who hate us….Its not rocket science…is it

So…I say no to the old firm agenda, no to sevco bigotry at Celtic Park, and a resounding no, to SFA chicanery….no more.

I see that there are still a lot of people out there with masochistic tendencies, guys who would like to accept a team who are reknowned for Getting a helping hand from anyone who will give them that hand, what have they done to deserve this helping hand, Well, they cheated the Taxman out of millions, it’s anyones guess how much, £22mil,£88mil, £220 millions.take your pick.

But that’s okay for some people on here, they would welcome them back with open arms. ‘We are the people’, they cry, it should be us that cry ‘WE ARE THE PEOPLE’ (who want to play against you again).

It will all fall back into place again, Cheating the Taxman, Getting a helping hand from a big percentage of the men in black, their even trying to recruit the mega tax fraudster KING back into their fold.

I really can’t believe they would be welcomed back into the fold by supporters of our club, I’ve went through this cheating from one team for so long, I can’t remember the good times from the bad.But there was one game that stuck in my craw more than any other.

In fact it was the last game I went to see Celtic playing them. It was the day my pal and me said no more, when that most reverand of reverands Mike Mc Curry single handedly made Celtic an inert force by proceeding to book 9 of our team for nothing, just too nulify Celtic putting in any kind of tackles where they would be sent off.

On Saturday’s game, and contrary to many other views, I really enjoyed the match. I would have enjoyed it more if we had stuck a few more in the net, and I agree with those who consider we are blunt in attack, but as a game of football, it was highly competitive and entertaining, with some terrific passages of play.

Of course, my opinion might very well have been influenced by my enjoying the match in the company of Bournesouprecipe, who was wearing the full Hogwarts dress cloak, presumably carried over from the previous night’s Hallowe’en party.

Scottish football screened live in China for first time

By: Newsroom Staff on 04 Nov, 2013 13:44

SCOTTISH football will be screened live in China for the first time and to an estimated 60million people after the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) kicked off its new 10-year, £20million international broadcast deal with a Chinese partner.

First Minister Alex Salmond was joined in Beijing by SPFL CEO Neil Doncaster and clubs’ representative, Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell, where the SPFL struck the new broadcast agreement with live sports online streaming provider PPLive TV.

The ground-breaking deal covers the live screening of 58 SPFL matches in China, the world’s second biggest economy and fastest-growing, as part of PPLive TV’s European football offering that includes coverage of England’s Barclays Premier League and Spain’s Liga BBVA (formerly La Liga).

The agreement, which will see SPFL season 2013/14 fixtures broadcast online to 60million PPLive TV users in China, is part of an international agreement between the SPFL and MP & Silva that is expected to generate more than £20m for the SPFL and its member clubs over the next 10 years.

The First Minister made the announcement alongside Peter Lawwell and Neil Doncaster at a Scotland innovation showcase in Beijing that demonstrated the expertise and pedigree of Scottish business, design, education and sport during a five-day trade mission to China.

The First Minister said: “This is a hugely exciting development for Scottish football, with 58 fixtures from the Scottish Professional Football League to be screened live in China for the first time to 60million people through PPLive.

“There is clearly a growing appetite for European football coverage in China and now football fans across this country will be able to enjoy the action from iconic Scottish footballing venues such as Celtic Park, Easter Road, Fir Park and Pittodrie.

“There have been some tough times in Scottish football over recent years, but with news today that clubs can look forward to a £20m boost as part of this fantastic international broadcasting deal, I am confident the fans can look forward to a bright future.”

Speaking on behalf of SPFL clubs, Peter Lawwell said: “The English Premier League experience shows that giving overseas audiences the chance to watch games week-in, week-out is the key to building an international fan base.

“Celtic has already played a leading role in promoting the Scottish game to global audiences, mainly through our recent participation and successes in the UEFA Champions League, and we see China as a country with enormous potential.

“This deal shows the ambition of the SPFL and its clubs to continue to expand the Scottish game into new worldwide territories.”

Neil Doncaster, SPFL CEO, said: “This is a brilliant result for Scottish football and the Scottish Professional Football League. This deal will showcase the Scottish game to up to 60million people across China and opens up a huge marketplace in the world’s fastest-growing economy.

“We want to build on this opportunity, not only in China but across other significant global markets, and discussions with several potential partners are ongoing.

“We aim to significantly raise the profile and popularity of our game among global audiences, with the resultant financial spin-offs and commercial opportunities for the SPFL and our member clubs.”
