The great United reunion, signing backup keepers

1109

Ronny Deila’s dream of reconstructing the Dundee United team of 2014 is on track as United have agreed terms for the sale of striker Nadir Ciftci, who is set to join Stuart Armstrong and Gary MacKay-Steven in green and white hoops.

United are feeling sore at losing three players to a rival but it could be argued this deal is a positive result for them.  They are no different than Celtic in needing to acquire good players who will enhance their team and generate transfer fees when they leave.

Armstrong and Mackay-Steven gave Celtic a timely boost when they arrived in the team in February.  If Ciftci adapts as quickly he’ll do well.

Signing a backup goalkeeper is a tricky call.  Do you blow a large slice of budget on a genuine contender for the goalkeeper’s jersey, or perhaps promote the next teenage David Marshall?  Both are viable calls.  If we sign Logan Bailly (29) for a fee from Belgian club Leuven the expectation at Lennoxtown is that he will push Craig Gordon.

That would leave us with competition across the field, apart from the left back slot…..

What skills exactly….are required to be on the Celtic board,

    are they beyond our understanding?

Do you have to be super intelligent….shrewd…ruthless.

    Id genuinely like to know.

    Are they even Celtic fans?

  3. Jesus weeps we sign the players we want and we sign them early, we sign player known to us and we get condemned cause their no good enough, still better than those that have left but nobody wants to discuss that:

lubo = the half retired footballer

the king = winger and non prolific striker

Gordon = we he was past it

    denaya = a rookie

Sutton = washed up Chelsea reject

Agatha = 50k bargain basement signing

    hartson = dodgy knees

oh and how apt having a pop at improvement at stadium and money spend. I for one am happy for money to get spend at stadium and I think the facilities are far from great so its not like we are spending unnecessarily, its bloody needed, a welcome addition and the more the better. I know we cant compete with barca, man u or Chelsea on the pitch for the most part, but we sure as hell should be competing with them of the pitch

  4. Ciftci is a Celtic player, that’s good enough for me, he gets what every other Celtic player gets from me, support, you will never please everyone on here, and still to this very day they are led by the nose of the lurking Huns in here, so the lurking Huns GIRFUYs.

And to the rest, Hail Hail.

It really IS simple……I want to be a CL Club……but I don’t go into a rant about the Board (every day) before we have even played one qualifier …….. I’ll whisper this……getting into the CL is a bonus for us in our ‘environment’, not a right……we cannot even HOPE to compete financially with many other CL teams….our finances force us to ‘take chances’ in the player market….some work out, some don’t…… Still the best Club in the World

This is the football world we live in – we are a small insignificant country, who once had oil.

Correction. We never had oil. Big Brother at Westminster had and even as prices plummet, has no intention of handing it over.

    ———————————————————————————————————–

And of course we get £1300 per head/year more than England – thats 5.3 million times £1300 = £7 billion per year.

Even the SNP’s OIL LIES, that next year would have seen us worse off than Greece, had we been stupid enough to vote yes, cannot change this fact.

PL is a bonafide Celtic man. You might disagree about his strategy but he believes its for Celtic’s benefit.

He’s turned down 1 and possibly 2 top 4 jobs in England that were for better pay to stay here.

It is a shame the number of Celtic supporters writing off Cifti before he has kicked a ball for us.I say give the guy a chance. H..

From earlier, apparently, some of the criteria that has to be met is a tick against youth development, a tick against the safety of their ground, a tick against their financial stability. That will be them getting licensed then. Mr. Bryson wouldn’t have it any other way. What a pension that dick is going to collect.

  10. PL got Big Billy’s medals on Ebay yet?

I don’t think we have competition at centre half – Ambrose can’t be considered as a genuine contender and its 4 years since Mulgrew played well there, which was under a different regime where his lack of pace didn’t matter.

Not sure we have genuine competition for the central attacking midfielder role – Johansons form tapered off quite a bit toward the end of last season and whenever he played, or Commons deputised it jus didn’t click.

We need another (I’d take Mcgeady if he’s up for grabs for £1m)

(I know Peat and Ogilvie held different post than those of Farry and Smith) It is the Bryson’s of this world that concern me most though.

Agreed. He needs a chance. He better behave himself though and keep they wallies in his mooth.

  17. Don’t know what to make of the Cifti signing.

I watched him at CP last season either the 4-0 or 3-0 game in March and I thought that, although he was skillful and had ability, he was done after an hour.

Now there may have been extenuating circumstances, carrying a knock or demoralised, but he was out of puff…done.

I think that it might take while to get him fit enough for our style of pressing play so, and here’s the crux, why sign him now when we could have got him for nothing in January?

  18. celticforever on

I was at Tannadice last December when Dundee Utd beat us 2-1

Ciftci opened the scoring for United after about 5 minutes with Armstrong scoring the second with Lee Griiffiths scoring a late goal for us

Ciftci was a right handful for our defence that day and scored and excellent goal for them

If he shows same ability in the hoops plus the improved fitness he will get under Ronnie D I think we have made a good buy

  19. i really think you posters should get a grip

There is a disconnect between supporters and the board…..its nothing new.

They are the board, who don’t take responsibility for their failures, and we are the supporters who pay for their failures.

As a matter of fact, if it wasn’t for the supporters funding the club, the board members wouldn’t be getting any bonuses at all….the poor wee lambs.

Shocking how the sainted board is complained about by the people who fund the team.

How dare the fans complain eh.

IMO…The board are an elite group of businessmen….nothing more.

On the other hand, we are the supporters….we are Celtic.

67 Heaven. If he passes his medical and agrees terms he will be a Celtic player before the end of the week. H.H.

  22. Not sure who some on here think Celtic can purchase as a viable striking option, but when cifti arrives, if your a Celtic fan then you’ll back him. Look at the recent forwards we have signed from clubs on our doorstep in recent times, stokes, hooper, Sutton, hartson, McDonald, griffiths et al. Compare them with Rasmussen bangura balde pukki lassad Miku etc.

Dundee United must have some transfer kitty now ?

I’m quite happy with shifty Ciftci .. Imo, his disciplinary probs were partly down to playing for a wee provincial club, knowing that he should be playing on a bigger stage ..

Be a few on here eating their words if the big man is a success in the hoops.

Still think lawwell has been at the club far too long and fresh idea’s are needed to generate income other than projects and making the stadium look pretty.

For many Celtic is their escape from harsh realities and worries. They put what is left disposable from their tightly budgeted ‘hard earned’ into keeping Celtic afloat. Some perceive that their contribution is being squandered in material vanities at the expense of the quality of the football team that takes the park. I think people have a right to object to waste and hubris; especially so when we corporately boast the ethos of our club and her Support.
