Ronny Deila’s dream of reconstructing the Dundee United team of 2014 is on track as United have agreed terms for the sale of striker Nadir Ciftci, who is set to join Stuart Armstrong and Gary MacKay-Steven in green and white hoops.
United are feeling sore at losing three players to a rival but it could be argued this deal is a positive result for them. They are no different than Celtic in needing to acquire good players who will enhance their team and generate transfer fees when they leave.
Armstrong and Mackay-Steven gave Celtic a timely boost when they arrived in the team in February. If Ciftci adapts as quickly he’ll do well.
Signing a backup goalkeeper is a tricky call. Do you blow a large slice of budget on a genuine contender for the goalkeeper’s jersey, or perhaps promote the next teenage David Marshall? Both are viable calls. If we sign Logan Bailly (29) for a fee from Belgian club Leuven the expectation at Lennoxtown is that he will push Craig Gordon.
That would leave us with competition across the field, apart from the left back slot…..

Smith was a weasel, how did he ever qualify into that job; how did Farry ever qualify into that job; how did peat ever qualify into that job; how did Ogilvie ever qualify into that job
It’s quite simple. All they had to do was ‘lodge’ an application, as it were……
The biscuit tin had a purpose. It could hold biscuits and cash: real stuff.
What can a spreadsheet do? Eh?

That said, we don’t want to borrow like FC Innerer Schweinehund did.
Balance is key. But the fans demand more than SPL fitba.
Got to get into the groups stages.
Congratulations to the Management and the Board for transfer business done so far.

Just seen Calum Waters, left sided defender has gone to Dumbarton on Loan.

Glad to see so many youngsters playing in an array of clubs in the Championship – almost like a second-string playing in second-tier. The huns will not be pleased.

You forgot wrong maths.
A left back you say?
Whatever happened to that boy Andy Roberston? He was from Dundee United. And before that…
p.s. Saw him at Glasgow Airport, pointed out by my son who went to same school as Andy. Looks like a wee runt, but he’s some player IMO.
Yeah fan-a-tic don’t let Van the man go for peanuts 20 Mill will help us to replace him + strength’n the squad in other positions from those strapped for cash rich TV Money Rolled other Football Club’s
Why do we all of sudden need a Left Back?
What’s the matter with Wdowczyk?

Celtic have to operate in Scotland – end of debate.
###
“Whoever worships the accomplished fact is incapable of preparing for the future.”
Leon Trotsky.
I don’t know how some people can’t seem to grasp the concept that criticism of the Celtic board/strategy on a message board doesn’t equate to not fully supporting the team on the park or financially. The frequency with which posters whine about ‘negative’ posters is outstripping the negative comments. A message board is about debate. Someone said on here ages ago that you should play the ball and not the man. Address the point or scroll on by would be my advice. I have no doubt that those questioning the Celtic board and our transfer policy are Celtic men and only want what’s best for us.

I don’t expect anybody to agree with me, that doesn’t mean im not right:)
I don’t let the big Stepford Wives blouses bother me too much.
They are in the Cult of Peter, beyond reason.
And….everyone is welcome….even lunatics like me.

Yeah bellshill tim & your 4/1 tenner on the old tennis, does Anderson have a chance?
& who’s the opposition?

“Snowball, who had studied an old book of Julius Caesar’s campaigns…. was in charge of defense operations.”
WE might need that too…
Champions League established strikers won’t sign for us. We sign players who are looking a CHANCE to play in the CL. That’s all we can offer these guys. Scotland is viewed as a footballing backwater.
Sometimes you have to make do with the hand your dealt. The current boards policy has got us to the last 16 on 3 occasions. The next step, the quarter finals, is a million miles away.
So what have we got? A team that can qualify for the CL group stages and a chance to squeek through in second place. Then we play a bonafide top team who give us a skelping. The amount of money required to get over that hurdle is beyond us.
I could argue all day with folk who complain we don’t spend money like ole moonbeams. One tim told me the other day that we don’t need to sell players to break even. That’s just wrong. They are entitled to their opinion even if they are as thick as mince. But its such a bloody downer listening to these folks who are never happy.
PS… Alfred Finnbogason was absolutely pants for Real Sociedad. I don’t think he was the guy to take us to the next level after all.
Other than a possible question mark about his temperament, I’m struggling to see too many issues about signing Ciftci.
Strong, decent pace, hard-working, intelligent and skillful. Known to the management team and very well to two of our players, who would know about his training efforts, etc.
Gives us something different to what we have got.
I hope big Nadir returns Ronny’s faith and shoots us to the CL, people who say he isn’t CL quality who cares if he gets us there we will happily worry about that then, as far as I care Ronny wanted him, Nadir wanted to come, some players are not interested in Scottish fitba at least we know the player can score here and wants to play for Celtic, come August if we have made the CL a few other players might be tempted but they don’t concern me that’s for PL & Ronny to work out, glad some of our targets are in pretty early, am quietly confident there won’t be a Maribor or Warsaw this season

Re: LB
Izaguirre the man in possession
Mulgrew back up for occasional use, dunno if I would give him new deal with limited scope for appearances elsewhere.
Unless you have asked Uncle Peter for a new LB….
We need a big striker to throw himself about. I think ciftci could b that man. A bit raw yeah but give him a chance. Hail hail.

That’s what they would like you to think!
The problem with this is that rationalising explanations take you only so far.
I like our business so far – unsure about Ciftci, but prepared to accept that maybe RD knows a wee bit more about kick-ball than I do.
I remember when Dixie Deans signed for us, and the wailing and gnashing of teeth that followed. Stein’s lost it, beginning of the end, not Celtic class, yada yada bloody yada.
Exactly like some of the comments on here today – dear God. We never learn.
Diss the Players! Sack the board! Belittle the Manager! Yawn. Click.
Why do people think Cifti lacks pace? He looks yards faster then any striker we currently have and he’s built like a tank. At 1.5 Million I think that looks like good business.
Afternoon all.
Seen it all now.
Some posters being castigated for signing off with HH!!
AND!
…being accused of not having STs.
There’s usually a reason for that.
Eg: living abroad, economic circumstances, personal choice etc…

Point made and point taken – however what exactly do the critics of the board want them to do?
If someone has some wonderful new insight, I am sure that any board member would welcome it with open arms.
As far as I can see the overall implicit advice from critics is – spend as much money as you can and to hell with the consequences.

Does watching Celtic for 45 years qualify me as being a Celt supporter
And if it does…Thanks for your blessing.

How dare I complain.

He’s playing dijorkovic 1 set shoot out from last night! Not started yet cause of rain
It is good to see a player who wants to come to Celtic and a player who has turned down an interested English club.I say well done to Cifti and hope the big man silences his doubters.H.H.

Thank you, kind sir…….
I like the idea of Cifti. He offers something we don’t have, unpredictability, strength, he can beat a man with quick footwork, he can make something out of nothing…I’m looking forward to seeing him in the Hoops and I hope he proves to be an inspired buy. He does need to cut out the stupidity though.
I hope Ciftci isn’r reading this stuff…
