THE GREENS AHEAD IN THE POLLS

Celtic’s attacking midfielder Stefan Johansen is rather surprisingly an emphatic leader in the Poll on the Aberdeen based Press and Journal website.

Four players have today been nominated for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year. Alongside the Norwegian, Aberdeen’s Adam Rooney and Celtic’s Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk are joined by Dundee striker Greg Stewart.

All four have been on fine goalscoring form with Rooney out in front with 27 goals, while Stewart has 15 goals and the Celtic pair have 12 and 10 respectively for Johansen and Van Dijk.

With the paper being based in Aberdeen you would perhaps expect Rooney to romp to victory on the Press and Journal but not so. At the time of writing Johansen had achieved a remarkable 65% of the votes in the Poll which asks ‘which player should win the PFA Premiership player of the year award?’

His Celtic teammate Virgil Van Dijk is in second place on 15% of the votes cast whereas Rooney has a mere 11% and Stewart 7%.

Earlier this month Stefan Johansen won a similar Poll on CQN Magazine as Celtic’s Player of the Year.
