The Iheanacho – Wanyama spectrum

320

I was dismissive at the prospect of signing Kelechi Iheanacho (now 29) when the move was mooted in September.  The player’s contract was terminated by Sevilla, following an unproductive six-month loan at Middlesborough.  Injury has blighted his time since, but when fit, he has shown enough to demonstrate he is clearly the best striker at the club.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (32) was a regular for Besiktas last season, spent until November alone, before training with former club Arsenal.  He has won all major English trophies this decade and has a Champions League winners’ medal from 2019, when he was an unused Liverpool sub opposite Victor Wanyama on the Tottenham bench.

Victor was a year older than Alex when the former signed for Dunfermline in 2025.  That experiment did not end well, as our former idol was a ghost of his former self.

The spectrum of outcomes between Kelechi’s clear ability and Victor’s ineffectiveness are all possible for a player who has been out of the game for a few months.  Martin O’Neill has taken scouting updates from Arsenal and has clearly heard enough to convince him to move.  Let’s hope he is well informed.

Stivs is our Mhan for ticket sales, but looking solely at the Ol’ Main Stand on the online graphics, though there are seats still available, it looks like it will be well populated by 5.30pm tomorrow for the Dundee match. Now given it holds around 9500 supporters there’s your starter for ten. Could be wrong but got a feeling that those that do attend the Scottish Cup match tomorrow are in for a treat.

Martin O’Neill showing a little frustratiion with the process, lack of information, and perhaps the adequacy of the club’s response. .. . .. ..

“There has to be a middle ground somewhere along the way. It has to be, how quickly we can reach that there is probably in the lap of the gods.”

He added: “But yeah, it would just be nice to know what all of the complaints are about, and the club’s attempt at least to rectify those.”

A Celtic supporter base the majority of whom vote SNP and wear stupid assed ‘see you Jimmy’ hats at Scotland games, and virtue signal for over 1 Million mostly undocumented ‘ALL MALE’ foreigners to come into the country which has already been crushed under 40+ years of Labour/Conservative/Libs/SNP/Gre austerity, and ZERO council houses have been built in that time, with recent foreign people coming in on luxury flights during the night so that no one will see them in UK, EU, Sco, Ire, etc, then what is it that these virtue signallers are all about?

    Are they Dumb? Naive? Deceptive?

Hope it all passes off peacefully, but when the real number of the UK population is said to be near or over the 100 million mark, with ZERO new provisions in place, then interesting times lie ahead.

University dumbed down snowflakes are the LAST types of characters who should be calling the shots at Celtic, or anywhere else.

    Just my opinion.

Yes, totally agree – the presentation differed but since Martin came in, he has reiterated the points Brendan repeatedly made.

Also, Martin had made a point of saying Celtic are a European Club on a number of occasions – Ross obviously didn’t send him the memo…

All the commandments in the Decalogue Dialogue are of equal importance but I found Commandments 7 and 10 particularly carry more significance in this dispute.

A post of great substance that brings both clarity and much needed objectivity, as, in the end, this dispute will only be resolved by meaningful dialogue.

Absolutely. A full extension of the Third Commandment

    Thanks for the reminder.

I came across the original years ago. Celtic have it but perhaps needs resurrecting.

You might be interested in this article originally published on Celtic Underground after the Shame Game that references Brian Wilson and Truth and Reconciliation, but not surprised he was lambasted by those who are blind to the truth that makes them a profit.

    —————

I was astounded at the Utrecht game, that in our row in 444, there was a woman with 4 kids in tow.

Never seen them ever before, I heard her yapping that it was a treat for the weans (£32 ticket btw) because they never get to the game together.

Our cup attendnaces last couple of years have been incrediblle, with a 59000 v Hibs last season.

Listened to several hysterical bloggers today, telling everybody it is up to theindividual what they do, but the collective is pleading for you not to go, but then making the point they do not know what success would look like, indeed, how do you measure it ? 30,000 unoccupied seats ? no different to the last 10 minutes of any home game.

Besides this, the Morton cup game few years ago was only attended by 16,000.

So I am left really really pondering, what does the collective gain from the bhoycott ?

the group think is it has forced Wilson to the table.

I would suggest he wasnt allowing the GB dialogue until the 4 arrested were actually charged with something, which happened yesterday, no co-incidence for me.

  19. Is this the same Brian Wilson that vigorously supported the war in Iraq despite the absence of any evidence of weapons of mass destruction, and who also opposed investigation into the decision making process for the invasion?

Estimates for Iraq war deaths vary from a minimum 200.000 to around half a million.

Now that everybody except Paul67 accepts the business model needs changing we are for the second time this season taking a punt on a free transfer outwith the window.

    ==============

Can you set out in what respect the business model needs changed and how much it will cost, just ball park.

In financial terms there is some wriggle room in that some of what could have been spent on the playing squad in the CL income years ended as cash in the bank, which meant Celtic had no need to sell Engels and that helped maintain, if not improve squad quality.

However the CL income boost has gone, although selling Engels in the summer for anything over £11m to make a profit will help compensate a bit.

CL income obviously makes a difference but there is a cost and risk involved and the much quoted £30m to £40m CL money has to be reduced to establish if the risk is worth taking.

It would be interesting to hear views on

    1) How many players are needed to reduce the chance of not qualifying over a three year period (for illustrative purposes.)

    2) How much would players of the calibre to get Celtic into Europe CL and later stage cost in transfer fees?

    3) What sort of weekly wage would be required to attract them to Celtic x 52 weeks

    4) What bonuses would be paid ?

    5) Travel budget.

On the income side that can be found on line.
