Had your fill of international football for the year? Good. Let’s get on with business. Delighted Mark McGhee’s back in football, and at Motherwell. I had a soft spot for Mark back in the days, ‘Hammer of the Hearts’, as he was.
By watching Mark McGhee you saw a profound change take place in the game. Until the mid-80s it was possible to get by in the game aligning brute strength with decent levels of skill, as Mark had, or even sublime skill with compulsive inertia, which was enough for Charlie Nicholas to carve out a career for a while.
Almost in an instant the game changed. Mark was praised (and valued) with the most unflattering chant, Nicholas was finished after the debacle of Raith Rovers. Not that he’s bitter.
Best of luck to big Mixu too. I’m long on record saying we don’t need a ‘strong Rangers’ (sic.), but the flip side of this is that we do need teams like Aberdeen and United meeting the grade.
Murray Capital Group posted a £13.6m pre-tax profit. I’ve been writing about this wolf in wolf’s clothing for long enough to know the script with this matter.
I know many CQN’ers have helped Glasgow the Caring City over the years. You should take a look at the work they carried out with Syrian and Afghan refugees in Serbia this month. If you are on Facebook, give them a like here. It helps the volunteers to know their efforts are appreciated.
Then maybe ask older Celtic fans what they know about Novi Sad, it’s a story worth telling, even 48 years on.

Can I just thank my wife, before I go, for the wonderful anniversary present today of the high moral ground?
Yes, she did!
I see a great weekend of sports viewing ahead, uninterrupted by complaint.
“Let me help you with those flowers, dear. I’ll just put this champagne in the fridge, and we’ll have some when we get back from the lunch I’ve booked in your favourite restaurant!”
Break up the worlds biggest Masonic Club? Good luck wi that.

Kick Out The Micky Mouse Club
Kick Out The Micky Mouse Club

There’s been the usual wailing and gnashing of teeth in the wake of yet another Scotland failure. As usual the ‘who should be manager’ stuff raises it’s head. Wee Strachan is not everyone’s cup of tea but the problem doesn’t lie with him. Scotland in my opinion could appoint Jurgen Klopp and that would still not guarantee qualification for a major tourney.
Since 2002 the SFA have appointed the following managers: Berti Vogts,Walter Smith,Alex McLeish,George Burley,Craig Levein and Gordon Strachan, with Tommy Burns and Billy Stark having one game each as temp managers. These guys are not duff managers! Berti Vogts is much maligned but he did attempt to shake things up by bringing in players with tenuous links to Scotland, but he tried. Gordon Strachan managed to win trophies with Celtic while having to cut costs at the same time, Walter Smith took a very average Rangers side to a UEFA Cup final. I could go through them all but I wont test your patience. NOT ONE of them managed to take Scotland to a major final over a 17 yr period.
Why have all these managers failed and what is the common denominator ?
The one obvious problem we have is that we do not have anywhere near enough International class players. Not one ‘major’ EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga etc first team has a Scottish player in them. Now I admit there are many reasons for this however the one common denominator here is the Mickey Mouse Club of football administrations which preside over our game. The SFA, SPL, SPFL, SFL (defunct) bodies have mismanaged this countries football affairs for far too long. Whilst every member club of the SFA has a representative involved at that association could be asked ‘what are you doing’? the truth is the people who have been put in and have held executive positions at Hampden/Park Circus over the past decades are NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE and neither are these associations.
Along with failing to address the problems our game has suffered over the past 30 yrs in terms of putting in place a cohesive youth coaching system that all clubs adhere to and a disciplinary system which is an absolute joke they also presided over the major Rangers/Sevco fiasco of 2012. Even the staunchest RIFC supporter must now be asking themselves why these bodies conspired to allow a basket case new club into the SFL without adhering to their own rules of membership and association. This has turned into a major embarrassment for our game. They basically allowed spivs and asset strippers to run a football club and rip supporters off. To compound that they then pass a convicted tax fraud criminal to take over from them. It’s fair game to laugh at the misfortune of other club supporters and you may say they deserved it but at the end of the day we all have deep feelings for the clubs we support. Because of the emotional ties we have to our clubs none of us can safely say it wouldn’t have happened to our club.
The blame for the ‘downfall’ of Scottish football and the national team lays mostly at the door of the football administrators and their governance of OUR game. Time to kick out the Mickey Mouse Club and start again.
Hail, Hail !
scoddish fitba’ is a Scottish problem.

Celtic insist there will be no treble talk in the dressing room; Dons confirm Derek McInnes is going nowhere; League Cup set for revamp and Rangers boss told ‘no chance’ of 16-team Premiership
No treble talk, insists Mackay-Steven
GARY Mackay-Steven has insisted that there will be no talk of the treble in the Celtic dressing room this year.
Celtic won the league and league cup double last year but exited the Scottish Cup at the hands of Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
And Mackay-Steven has said it is ‘too premature to talk about a treble’. (Evening Times)
Dons slam ‘rumour-mongers’ over McInnes claims
ABERDEEN have accused rumour-mongers of trying to unsettle the club as they insisted Derek McInnes was going nowhere.
The manager of the Ladbrokes Premiership leaders shot to the top of the league sponsors’ betting on the next top-flight boss to leave.
But the Dons said in a statement: “The club can confirm Derek McInnes remains the manager of Aberdeen Football Club.
“The various rumours which have been circulating this afternoon on social media are completely without substance or foundation and we would question the motivation of those individuals looking to unsettle the club.” (The Scotsman)
League Cup set for revamp
SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster has confirmed that next season will start in July with a group phase of the League Cup due to a clamour from clubs for summer football.
Doncaster was not able to offer an explanation of how the revived sections will work as the plan is still being worked upon.
However, it will involve 38 of the 42 league clubs – the four European participants will be exempt until the last 16. (The Scotsman)
Warburton told: No 16-team top flight
RANGERS boss Mark Warburton has been told there is no chance of a 16-team top flight.
Warburton had said that Scotland’s top flight teams were suffering from overkill from playing each other four times a year.
But Neil Doncaster claimed: “I don’t see it. I don’t see sufficient demand from clubs or our other stakeholders for that.
“If you look at other countries with the population similar to Scotland, I don’t know of any who have larger leagues. There are so many problems with the format and meaningless mid-table games.” (Evening Times)
Keatings not abandoning title hopes
JAMES Keatings insists Hibernian can still catch Rangers in the chase for the Championship.
Mark Warburton’s side have made a blistering start to the season with nine straight victories and hold an 11-point lead over their Edinburgh rivals
However, Hibs can close that gap by winning their game in hand next Tuesday at Falkirk, assuming they can take care of Dumbarton at Easter Road on Saturday.
Hibs striker Keatings, who is fit again after injury troubles, said: “Rangers can definitely be caught. In this league, teams can drop points anywhere – there are plenty tough away games. Rangers haven’t won the league yet. We showed at Ibrox we can cause them problems.” (The Scotsman)
Mixu takes reins at Tannadice
DUNDEE United chairman Stephen Thompson said Mixu Paatelainen was the “first person we spoke to, and also the last”, as the Finn was appointed head coach of Dundee United yesterday.
The 48 year-old’s first match is on Sunday, when Hearts are the visitors to bottom-of-the-table United. Thompson revealed that Paatelainen’s desire to return to the club where he spent five years as a player early in his career “was clear from the first minute we spoke”.
Although Paatelainen admitted he had expected to continue his managerial career “in England or Europe”, he was delighted to be made aware of United’s initial interest.
He is officially described as head coach, with Thompson explaining that “there are three of us here now who run things day-to-day – a head coach, a general manager in David Southern, and myself overseeing everything. It’s just a modern way of doing things but it’s no real change.” (The Scotsman)

I don’t honestly see Celtic not winning the treble, there is no reason why they shouldnt, they would be underachieving if the don’t win it. I also expect them to qualify from their Europa League group, none of the teams in the group are any better than Celtic.

Of course Celtic are going for the Treble and so is every team who are still in all competitions, it’s the very reason we all play football, the aim is to win trophies.
So why not talk of the treble, talking about it doesn’t spoil your chances of winning it.
Now let’s talk about that Europa Cup now as well, and the possibility of the Quadruple.

Deila and Lawwell need a Treble this year , nothing else is acceptable ….. so GMS you go right ahead and speak about it because it’s what the majority of the Fans expect from Celtic .
Doncaster is a busted Flush , the Premiership needs enlarging , personally I’m bored out of my Skull ….. working in Europe I used to bust a gut to fly home on Fridays regularly for Celtic matches but due to Deila’s ‘crap’ 4-2-3-1 Formation and the Chance to go to other matches (mostly Bundesliga games) I find myself watching more games online because I know they are going to be Celtic struggling to score more than 2 goals and we’re hanging on for the win in the last 20 minutes ……. The Scottish Clubs need to have a good look at themselves and how they market the Product . There are far too many live matches being shown , the league needs a Home and Away fixture list , with No split and all fixtures published before a ball is kicked so Fans can plan their season as best they can . Smaller Clubs should be made to increase their away ticket allocation to bigger Clubs , if you want to increase attendances you must create the need for people to attend matches …… there are too many empty seats in the Home Sections which could be sold to visiting Fans .
My brother in Law lives in Edinburgh , we have tried twice to buy tickets from Hibernian for the Derby match , and twice we’ve been refused even though there have been lost of empty seats at the match …… this type of marketing is ruining the game , the days of Fans deciding at the last minute to go to a Match are gone …. no wonder football is pricing itself out of the market . I spend £1200 a year on 2 season Books a year for CP yet why do I feel I don’t get value for money ? For 25 Euros , I get a decent seat access to as much Alcohol as I like , good food Bratwurst or Steak or Frikadelle …… not forgetting decent football and usually good weather . When I leave the ground I’m parked in a decent Car Park (usually Free) and the Cops are on hand to direct the traffic to get you away from the ground asap (never seen a Cop in London Rd after a match ) ….. Doncaster just hasn’t got a clue how to market our game.
Any word on who the International are Interested in today …… only didn’t the Bakerman say there’d be no more signings this season as there’s no dosh for Transfers ???

Regarding fall in comments, I already mentioned a week ago my feelings on this. But further than that, Where are the laughs now? I started lurking on here about 5 years ago and used to laugh out loud at some of the posters. I can’t remember the last time I did that. We need serious posters like Auldheid (God bless him), but bring back some humour too.

What was the source of the post on previous page re Mickey Mouse governance?
Nothing will change for the better under current arrangements that not only allow rule breaking to go unpunished but conspire to cover up the extent of it.
Even with their hands caught in the cookie jar the SFA deny there is a jar never mind a cookie.
They are aided and abetted by a section of our media who want the same thing they do, the return to an unsustainable business model where hate is the corner stone.

Allegedly named Charlotte fakes.
I didn’t see it. I don’t read papers now.(I get all my info from this great site).
I asked basically if it was legal for a paper to do this as they are obviously trying to sabotage the court case that’s going on at the moment.
Sorry for being long winded.

it seems Charlotte fakes was ‘named’ quit a while ago, so it wasn’t an exclusive from the sun at all.

Not sure where that link came from but it’s nail on head stuff. I said last week that the system was rotten from the head down. Any other country not qualifying as consistently as Scotland (we’re not Germany but we aren’t Iceland either) would have addressed the problem, root and branch, after three or four failures. Nine blanks and there’s still no light at the end of the tunnel.
The Governing bodies should be hanging their heads in shame. Germany did a complete overhaul with great success and minnows like Slovenia and Iceland have embarrassed us.
Even the bullet proof stuffed shirts of Lancater Gate can’t hold a candle to our lot. Does the Brotherhood play a roll in dragging us back, hindering much needed progress with their closed shop conservatism? I give you Campbell Ogilvie and Gordon Smith for starters, to back up what you’re getting at Tony.
I won’t even mention their handling of the Sports Crime of the Century.

I just thought that there were some procedures in place to stop newspapers etc, trying to prejudice a trial.
Surely they have to run things past lawyers before printing.
After all it’s not hard to see through what they are trying to do.
Auldheid, BarcaBhoy, TBB and all others more business savvy than myself.
Now that TRIFC are no longer on a trading exchange, and therefore have no need to make regulatory announcements could DK (and/or others) be drip feeding them enough money to stay afloat without the need to make it public?
Could he/they even be doing it in exchange for stock? Is there a need to inform other shareholders that more shares have been released if it’s approved at board level?
I just have this sneaky feeling that having calculated the money should have run out about now, well all be sitting here in December wondering how they’re still going. When it was CW of course it transpired he’s stopped paying taxes. I don’t see DK hitting that route this time around though.

I think the reason the Scotland team are rank, is because teams in Scotland don’t play free flowing football.
Too many hammer throwers.
Most teams that play against Celtic know that they can get away with a lot of fouls against us.
If the refs were to stop that and the teams played football, not the industrial nonsense that they play against us then it would be a good start.
In my opinion of course.
