The first reaction to the international break is never positive: “How many players do we have away and what condition will we get them back in?” The team which stopped the ten had more representatives at the 1998 World Cup than any other side (a remarkable achievement), but we caught a cold from these exploits the following season.
Leigh Griffiths would no doubt be delighted to start for Scotland this week. Representing your country is one of the things footballers look back on in their later years, so for his own sake, I hope Leigh gets the call, but for Celtic’s I’d be quite happy for him to have a quiet couple of weeks.
Griffiths, Scott Brown and Nir Bitton are precious commodities to Celtic right now, we can’t afford international mishaps for any of them. There’s better cover for the others who will be on international duty, but Stefan Johansen in particular looks like could do with a break.
You’ll know Packie Bonner’s autobiography, The Last Line, launches this month. Packie has a night at Walkabout in Glasgow on 29th October, where the big man will speak about his career, and many other things, past and contemporary. Tickets are available here.

Today’s press release.
Today in Edinburgh a petition signed by approximately 9000 people, calling for the repeal of the Offensive Behaviour Act, will be handed to the Convenor of the Petitions Committee, Michael McMahon. Along with the signatures there are 84 pages of comments from signatories as to why they have signed this petition. The depth of feeling and the clarity of the comments are a testament to the outrage felt by ordinary citizens about the impact of this pernicious legislation.
We need look no further back than Saturday (5th) at New Douglas Park to see the impact this Act has on not only the relationship between fans and the police but on the behaviour of the police themselves. They denied entry to banners which called for the repeal of the Act and contained criticisms of the Police such as:
SNPolice Scotland
Focus on your failings
Not on Football
on the grounds that they were ‘political’. They subsequently denied having confiscated banners despite their being video evidence of them doing precisely that. There are currently three police officers under investigation for committing perjury in football-related cases.
The petition will be presented to Mr McMahon at 2pm today (Tuesday 6th). Press enquiries to: 0776416****

HH Celtic men and wummin, otherwise get it right up you.
WC – Just purchased both books from Amazon, mind you I’m not a great fan of Packie.Only reason being I met him at Celtic Park years ago, and he was an ignoramus to be honest.
Typical Donegal person, no big deal really a suppose.
Thanks ever so much for the signed copy of Caesar & The Assassin – Haven’t turned a page of that book because it’s for a good friend, so can’t comment on said book.
Bertie Auld book – Excellent.
George Connelly book – tragic although intriguing.
Hopefully the new purchases, both players aren’t gurning and whinging about money, and how bad and cruel the club was – ye get fed up hearing that same old record being played over and over again.
Sean Fallon book was the best read of them all, in my humble opinion.
Recently read Eric Bristow autobiography – not going to judge the bloke – I’ll say this though, it’s remarkable.
Those dart players were off the scale in terms of insanity – the late, great Jocky Wilson and all.

Hope you’re good bro.
ACGR
Good enough for me then, bro.
Hail Hail!
ACGR – Read the original Lenny book mate – it wasn’t very good to be honest.
Didn’t know that there was a CQN version.Def would buy that one if still available.
Hopefully Lenny brings out the long awaited book about his time playing and managing the club.
That is going to be the best seller of all time.
Sorry to hear that your book got stolen brother – the thief will have no luck.

That’s alright, and fur play to the lad, but Jesus Christ, don’t be singing against materialism when yer at that.
It’s like that Che Guevara comedian – the world’s greatest hypocrite.

DD – Sorry about that.
I wasn’t trying to annoy ye.
Fair play to John Lennon, he definitely did a lot of good for all the short time that he spent on this planet.

You could never annoy me pal.
I love you and the occupied 6 counties Tims.
You are our heartbeat.
DD – A gentleman as always.
Apologies once again though, I really shouldn’t have criticised the bold John Lennon.
Totally ridiculous thing to do.
Worst thing about the internet is it allows clowns like myself to judge a great musician like that.
Stupid isn’t the word for it.

16 Roads – can I ask what you mean by “typical Donegal person”?
Cheers.
BRTH
On reading the Van Dijk article, I’m wondering if he is obliquely criticizing Celtic.
He’s had a couple or three games in the EPL, for Southampton for goodness sakes, and he is already a better player.
Is he so arrogant that we didn’t improve him when he was here?
I guess the big signing on fee and inflated salary automatically makes you a better player.
BRTH
Larks are still trying to clear their lungs before soaring overhead.
Watch out for falling detritus.
Modren CQN is rubbish.
I think I even prefer everyone bein’ at bloggerheads over the ole Poppies than these infernal pop-ups.
What do you think , daily rangers misquoting Virgil or does his surname need a c instead of a j.
Dontbrattbakkinanger
Wait till the poppy pop ups start appearing!
Morning y’all
