THE ITALIAN JOB – AND WHAT IT PAYS

LAZIO’S annual wage bill has been revealed by the Italian media – and it’s not far off what Europa League rivals Celtic are paying their players.

The Serie A outfit are paying a mere £5million per year more than the Hoops with salaries taking the total to £64million.

The Scottish champions’ reported figures are £59million with the financial gap between the rivals negligible.

Simone Inzaghi’s top earner is Serbian international midfielder Sergej Milinković-Savić who rakes in around £2.2million a year.

The highest-paid performers at Parkhead are believed to be skipper Scott Brown and the club’s £4.5million purchase from Aston Villa in August 2016, Scott Sinclair, who is in the last year of his contract. Both are reckoned to picking up a basic wage of around £30,000-per-week.

Celtic will face their Italian opponents at Parkhead on Thursday October 24 before Neil Lennon takes his squad to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome for the return on November 7.

Remarkably, it has also been reported that the Parkhead wage bill is £12million-per-year than the ENTIRE Romanian league where Champions League conquerors Cluj participate. Lennon’s men will get the chance of revenge when they take them on in their Europa League group with the first tie due on October 3 in Glasgow with the away game scheduled for December 12.
