The job of a backup keeper is unlike any other role. Unlike outfield players, they can often pick up a wage without ever seeing first team action. There was recently a keeper at Benfica who had more winners’ medals than appearances to his name.
It’s a deal with the devil. Pick up wages not available elsewhere, but give up on actually playing football. Craig Gordon chose the route less travelled in 2020, when he rejected a contract at Celtic and moved to Hears for around half the money, in order to play. Just one week later, Fraser Forster decided against signing for Celtic, we were left without a keeper and Craig missed out on playing for Celtic, as well as a bumper contract.
Benjamin Siegrist left Dundee United two years ago knowing he would see little action at Celtic. Four appearances later he is off to join Neil Lennon at Rapid Bucharest. You have to assume he hopes to play there, but at 32 and having been inactive for so long, there are no guarantees he will make the grade.

Not at all. Great question.
I’ve got the “paradise list and found” book.
The website looks interesting. I’ll get a good look at it tomorrow.
Thanks.
TML,
Yes,very similar.

BBC Scotland find a way of showing Kilmarnock beating us in 2012 LC Final at HT,seriously hurting huns

On reflection the best answer to my question this morning and wasn’t mentioned by many was Brother Walfrid.

The most deluded support in the world.
You post some real quality clips pal. Keep em coming! 😃👍
Still lots of angst in Celtic cyberspace regarding transfer activity, particularly incoming.
By my fag packet arithmetic there are 10 days until our season starts and 37 days until the transfer window closes.
I suspect we’ll still be doing business three weeks after the season’s start … and possibly up to the wire.
BACK TO BASICS
It seems that a lot of supporters think the current squad isn’t good enough to go in against other Scottish clubs, as evidenced by the number of “the season’s only 10 days away” moans all over Celtic cyberspace.
It looks like Bernardo is in the door and I am sure there are more to come before the window closes. I just don’t get the panic to get all our new signing targets in before we face Kilmarnock.
If we can’t beat them with the squad we have, plus Bernardo, we might as will give up and go home.
Tom McLaughlin – cheers.
Completely agree .. particularly your last sentence.
Ideal world?
I’d love all our new players to be in the door now … with a full eight weeks of integration before the biggest games if the season (Champions League)
But it isn’t going to happen for reasons I can accept.
It’s a long season.
Attaining optimum capacity and capability on 04 August is not important or even desirable.
My only concern would be if something happened to kyogo before we got another striker in.
Even then, Daizen could play up front if required and we have goals from all over the park.

Late to the earlier theme…
Not the most important person for Celtic but certainly someone who has made Celtic what they are today…
David Murray
Could you expand on that please Yorkbhoy
My view
He debt managed his purchase £4,6m via a loan from his friend in the knuckle Gavin Masterton.
The £5m in that account(£0.4m) after purchase was the only credit balance in the 56 accounts in his name,55 were paper when credit checked by other board members at time Lawrence sold.the amount of “paper” accounts was near 1,000 for Murray group at liquidation His stadium was built.
We know of EBTs due to Her Majesty ending them. Those were preceeded by Discount Option scheme 1999-2001.Skanks like Murray didnt just happen to come across the illegal tax practices. He willfully sought them out as advantage,The signings of Thern,Tuguy,Stevens(twice) Hateley etc i am pretty sure were “offshore” but hey the original Ronaldo will be playing on the floating pitch soon,no investigation by a media silenced like lambs, feeding the hubris when all the time you and i paid for it.Their hubris remains, along with a lack of insight and learning from mistakes with the ultimate damage of loosing the preseason cup after winning it every year since mintys tenure
We operate differently,Mintys press corp smile smugly at fergus getting booed on flag day, still we see on here a’ whit urr the huns daen’ fear generates a lot,all to laugh at but in the digital age we can look seriously at our clickbait and see it for the sh××e it is.
Celtic took pelters for not doing the same as minty.sign him, sign him and sign him,for long enough, the huns are daen it how come we cannae go for bank loans,
Especially as minty went into overdrive at start of the now dead clubs 3in a row, buying mendes and others instead of settling with her majesty, hubris has a heavy price, liquidation is permanent,in mintys tenure we were up against a cheat from day one, whittling down that clubs value to one hundred pence( i personally smile at that.
Celtic dont do business and never did anything like the way Murray did
We were up against him,a banking system,a contorted knuckle failure(masonic) system,a governing body sfa who overseen their ‘worksteam’and a league system Turnbull Hutton called corrupt…yet we are still winning and producing results all within the rules.
We work for every success,we build on it,
No cheating,no hubris and a humility that we try do our best next time, which may be after a loss.
All the best :-)
Hail Hailv
If we can’t beat them with the squad we have, plus Bernardo, we might as will give up and go home.

agreed.
but if our only ambition is to finish a point or 3 above them
then why are we paying 600 quid for seasons tickets?
we could pay half that and still have more financial clout than them.

Maybe the most important person in the history of Celtic is the person who introduced you to Celtic.
Your Dad or mum , brother or sister, aunt or uncle or perhaps a friend.
Without them doing so it wouldn’t matter who founded the club or managed or played.
Can you imagine your life without Celtic being part of it.
AN T post.
Jim Spence’s dig at Bordeaux becoming Sevdeaux was very cute.
Guess their journey was Bordeaux. Naedeaux and, if ever reborn, Sevdeaux.
BR has already said, getting the players HE,not us want will go well into August. Its not hard.

Jim Spences comments on Twitter earlier about the Manchester Airport incident.
It sounded like it came right out the Netanyahu phrase book.
but he forgets our police forces have rules and regulations.
all respect i had for him had gone.

That is brilliant.
Thank you Borgo67.
I’m going to bed with that thought in my head.
Goodnight CQN
LADTH – never saw Jim’s airport related tweet.
His quip posted by AT paralleling Bordeaux with Sevco struck me as funny.
Meanwhile across the City, everyone and anyone available getting signed.Loanees from everywhere.Media drooling all over the place,on half truths and fairy tales, but reality ,like the Elite Court Case starting today, which will cripple them, basicallly ignored.
The perfect storm gathering nicely.
QUADRAPHENIAN
Jims a smart guy and went thro the mill with fans of naedeaux/sevdeaux:-))

AN T – yes I recall Jim was heavily rounded on by the currants.
SFTB
As a Celtic site, and given its the close season, I would have expected an article (or five) on suggested areas to strengthen.
As you say, any non football events such as Manchester airport arrest techniques, can grow organically and posters are free to discuss.
I was wrong to say ‘we’ are editing the subject matter, I should of course have said ‘Paul’.
Wonder if he’ll discuss squad strength, transfer targets before the season begins? Incredibly odd if not.
We started last season under prepared. We lost the first round of the league cup to Kilmarnock. There’s a worrying number of CQN ers who seem happy to repeat that approach. For the record, I’m not one of them.
Good morning troops from a dry at the moment butvwet underfoot Garngad current temp 12 degrees wow scorching eh.
Well my knee operation on Tuesday the 30 July has been pushed back to Tuesday 13 August. Arggghhhh.
I am going to try and join this Rabble today at Shippy but if I don’t enjoy lads.
BRRB – Get the bhoys a drink on you.

D. :)
Now regarding our magnificent Football club:
Is Liewell still there?
Is he still tampering and bungling up signings?
Is he still a Liar?
Are we going to spend some of our £80 to £100 million that we have in bank?
Are we going to upgrade in positions we are weak, LB, Left side of defence, although GT and LS have done well we should be upgrading not standing still?
Are we signing a striker?
After all there are only 10 days to our season starts. Sorry Tom.😉😜🤣
D. :)
Glenowen
Ok given we are in such a bad place what would your suggestions be ?
Who should Brendan be chasing and offering to sign ?

Lovely post.

Relax, the season books possibly cover the squad wages, and maybe some of the other operational costs. The trading model of the current bored has delivered £130 Million. I am sure that they are giving BR what he needs and I hope continue with the model of buying low selling high. Long time to go in the top end of the transfer market and we are holding all of our key players so far. What’s not to like. Keep it lit Celtic.
There is a reason we have won 12 of the last 13 leagues and closing in on a world record of trophies, at least in Scotland. Be happy, let’s watch history this season.
borgo67 on 26th July 2024 12:17 am
👏 👏
The opponents are getting worse and we’re not tested enough in our weak league most clubs come to Celtic Park amd defend deep and that I believe hinders us if we were in Belgiulm Netherlands or Denmark it would improve us as they are stronger competitive leagues.
We are a victim of were we are I strongly belive.
FAO BRRB and the Bhoys…
Sorry Bhoys, but I will NOT make it to the Shipbank today as I can hardly move.
Apart from my usual problems, my ” BACK” is KAPUT for the last few days !
Ive never had ” Back” pain like this before.

My apologies.
