The kind of Armageddon that buys you a meal, takes you to a show & onto a nightclub

738

As far as Armageddons go, this one will surely be known as the Amiable Nursemaid of all Armageddons.  The kind that not so much wipes everyone out, but buys them a meal, then takes them to a show and onto a nightclub.

Sky has renewed their deal to cover the Scottish Premier League after Our Man sorted them out yesterday.  They will show a handful of Scottish Football League games as part of the deal, a nice quid-pro-quo for SPL clubs for their annual contribution to the lower leagues.

Delicious irony: those SFL rights are worth more to each SPL club than they are to any SFL club.

Chief harbinger of doom, Neil Doncaster, will, on the one hand, be relieved that there is still income to pay his wages.  On the other hand, he must surely be embarrassed at the spectacularly in accurate scenario he portrayed to SFL clubs, and to several people in the media.  Did he embark on a flamboyant bluff or did he simply not know what he was talking about?

Remember, why we are here in the first place… Our good causes this year are The Haven Centre in Blantyre, Oscar Knox Neuroblastoma Appeal, Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and Aberdour Primary School Parents’ Association.

We have already distributed over £2000 thanks to the sale of a Joseph Gormley painting back in April. We have two further fantastic paintings by Joseph; one of Scott Brown and one of Henrik Larsson. We also have a wonderful signed Neil Lennon print by the artist Gary Brandham.

The items are being raffled on ebay right now for the price of a £1 ticket. Winners will be drawn at the CQN Open on Friday night. There will be further raffles and auctions on Friday night with some excellent golfing and other sporting activities been donated by the Celtic family. Perhaps the pick is a limited edition canvas print of John Thomson, donated by the John Thomson Memorial Committee. There are only 22 of these in the entire world, representing the 22 years of John’s life.

This is a unique opportunity to win three great pieces of Celtic memorabilia, items which would normally be pushed out of the reach of most people at auction. Tickets cost £1, buy as many as you like, but participate. This is what your club is all about!

Right. If I ever listen to Radio Clyde again I deserve all I get. Which is mental torment. The last Celtic fan was too much. Not going back? Good. Beat it. And by the way you missed a god game v Inter. F****in HUN. HH.

  4. Celtic have made a big PR mistake on the price hike on kid’s SB from £50 to £125 because they will be given the 2 games against Dundee.

It would generate a lot of goodwill and promote further SB sales if Celtic were to reverse this completely wrong decision.

I posted on here one day last week how as recently as the 2008/09 season CFC were, according to ‘World Soccer’ magazine the 8th best supported football club in the WORLD!

Since then, for a variety of reasons, average home attendances have dipped but during the 2010/11 season we were still in the top 15 in the WORLD!

Can you imagine what our average home attendance would be if we were playing in, say, a European Super League and competing at the highest level?! We could/would be in the top 5!

Unfortunately ‘though, as things currently stand, this would appear to be a long way off! However, I remain confident that at some stage in the, hopefully, not too distant future we WILL be competing in such a set-up, and the huns will NOT!

As similar question about playing in Europe (It would have to be a speculative question) being the 1st game or added to an existing record.

Re Kids Season tickets . Celtic are being blamed for the sins of sevco. Don’t blame Celtic for having to make up a financial shortfall. If sevco hadn’t stolen all the league titles etc then we’d be massively better off with all the uefa money they have stolen and Celtic wouldn’t have to resort to ANY measures. Those on clyde who are blaming our club would be better off directing the blame to those who are really to blame. SUPPORT CELTIC FC. HH.

  19. Why are the club not doing anything about all the money that was stolen/ defrauded from us ?

In any other form of business if you defraud hundreds of million,s there would be serious problems for the fraudsters.

    Reasonable question I think.

  20. harryhoodsdugbitme on

Ernie Lynch. I reckon the PR disaster is people like you coming on here and blaming Celtic for having to implement these cuts. Had sevco not cheated please tell me how much Celtic would be in the black. We cheated no one. HAIL HAIL.

  21. Up_over_goal

Sorry I missed your reply, stupidly and pointlessly distracted, as ever.

You give some hope. The steady path Celtic have been following has been a source of pride for many and a source of many great CQN debates. If there is any justice it will come good. I guess my despondency is the deflation of realising that when the economic battle was won, handsomely, in Scotland we see that the war rages around us still and possibly we’ve suffered a bit in the aftermath of the local skirmish.

My aspirations, for Celtic, have always been routed in the impact our club has made on the world, rather than on Scotland. It just seems to get harder and harder.

Wonkyradar makes the excellent point that hard financial reality always takes effect. And, I would agree, except I worry that football may be an exception. If the Spanish government can find a way to make their clubs play by the rules, or are forced to, it would be a tough position to take. Further hard decision, potentially politically impossible ones, would be faced by UEFA the FA and other associations.

To cut to the end of the story… we need the whole of European football to go into a Rangers style meltdown to have any hope of the current structures being changed to suit Celtic.

Issues of equality and fairness, as underlying themes, will play a far bigger role in future political discussion. The continued abuse of power by the banks shows just how big a challenge this will be for everyone, not just football fans. Football and the financial services sector have been exposed in recent times, and all allegiance aside I do find the level of greed and destructive self-interest sickening. The parallels are obvious, but then I’m not really paying attention to the airline scam currently being investigated, or the telecoms scam currently being investigated and so on.

It will be extremely interesting to see what effect our relatively small battle with Rangers has on the wider debate over financial impropriety. Is it incidental or does the dissolution of Rangers mark the first major victim of a wave of public revulsion with all this financial impropriety we’re enduring at every turn.

  22. The battle will always be to lead the agenda and stop the deflectors and the paid per click hun monkeys peddling their divisive agenda………….they know they are in the wrong, they are just obscuring the real picture.

I didn’t listen to them for years but now it’s just car crash radio and I find it very very funny how they continue to defend the indefensible. I personally could not go on the radio and make an @rse of myself every night for a job, if I want to turn it off I will. I do not buy the red tops and very occasionally I will buy a newspaper on a Sunday. I will not go on to any newcorc or oldcorc website but an occasional listen to these bams make you feel really good inside.
