The kind of Armageddon that buys you a meal, takes you to a show & onto a nightclub

738

As far as Armageddons go, this one will surely be known as the Amiable Nursemaid of all Armageddons.  The kind that not so much wipes everyone out, but buys them a meal, then takes them to a show and onto a nightclub.

Sky has renewed their deal to cover the Scottish Premier League after Our Man sorted them out yesterday.  They will show a handful of Scottish Football League games as part of the deal, a nice quid-pro-quo for SPL clubs for their annual contribution to the lower leagues.

Delicious irony: those SFL rights are worth more to each SPL club than they are to any SFL club.

Chief harbinger of doom, Neil Doncaster, will, on the one hand, be relieved that there is still income to pay his wages.  On the other hand, he must surely be embarrassed at the spectacularly in accurate scenario he portrayed to SFL clubs, and to several people in the media.  Did he embark on a flamboyant bluff or did he simply not know what he was talking about?

Remember, why we are here in the first place… Our good causes this year are The Haven Centre in Blantyre, Oscar Knox Neuroblastoma Appeal, Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and Aberdour Primary School Parents’ Association.

We have already distributed over £2000 thanks to the sale of a Joseph Gormley painting back in April. We have two further fantastic paintings by Joseph; one of Scott Brown and one of Henrik Larsson. We also have a wonderful signed Neil Lennon print by the artist Gary Brandham.

The items are being raffled on ebay right now for the price of a £1 ticket. Winners will be drawn at the CQN Open on Friday night. There will be further raffles and auctions on Friday night with some excellent golfing and other sporting activities been donated by the Celtic family. Perhaps the pick is a limited edition canvas print of John Thomson, donated by the John Thomson Memorial Committee. There are only 22 of these in the entire world, representing the 22 years of John’s life.

This is a unique opportunity to win three great pieces of Celtic memorabilia, items which would normally be pushed out of the reach of most people at auction. Tickets cost £1, buy as many as you like, but participate. This is what your club is all about!

  1. I don’t wish to enter a debate about which I have no direct information. All I will say was that in Parkhead it was accepted as normal that most Tims were called up during the war. In fact, some, even those of the most republican stripe, actually volunteered. Those of the orange persuasion often found refuge in the Forge in reserved occupations.

  2. One sleep to go until competitive football at Celtic Park, cannot wait.

I hope Commons really match fit. I think the atmosphere, quality of football from Celtic will be to much for Helsinki, 3-0 Hooper with two and Joe Ledley with another. Lustig has looked good at CB, Charlie alongside. Matthews and Emilio at FB. Midfield Commons, Ledley Wanyama, Samaras, hoops and stokes up front.

This would not always be my first choice but Brown and Kayal haven’t had enough game time, even of fit to play. so I’d go for a known 4-4-2.

Are you saying that for this season, the kids tickets were £50 to start with, but were increased later, while season tickets were still being sold?

    Sorry, I didn’t realise that.

I agree that is not fair on those who had to pay the increased price.

Just on to congratulate my former pupil, Michael Jamieson for qualifying for tomorrow night’s Olympic 200 metres breaststroke final. Michael was fastest qualifier in the semis and I hope he does it for himself tomorrow night and wins a medal. Well done Michael. All your hard work and dedication has paid off.

On another note, SadiesBhoy was down at Xeltic Park this morning and bought himself a season ticket after a two year absence – I feel good! I’m also happy to report that there was a steady queue of supporters renewing/buying tickets. I asked the girl how they were selling and she said that they were going very well.

Tomorrow night – Come on Celts and come on Michael Jamieson!

TC-Guys like him and a few others’ agents should have been told last season to start hawking them round other clubs, problem is we are probably paying them too much in the first place mate.

they advertised them knowing the hun was doomed, they included the term which ever team replaced rangers. Then they withdrew the offer during the sale, just not Celtic class IMO.

    Awe_Naw..,

agreed, tickets were selling too well and they worried about next seasons renewals, stck with kids prices, time again to price the poor out the game methinks.

“sftb. if you don’t think you’ve been stiffed by the actions of that mob then you should stick to volleyball!!”

If you think I have been stiffed, you did not read my post accurately. I am a disinterested party- all my kids are grown up. Celtic let me off lightly in order to put additional financial burden on those with young families.

I have the same suspicion as Awe Naw- the SBs must have been selling well and they thought we should withdraw our generous offer because we might get someone to pay full price instead. But a stadium with few kids is gonna be more subject to falling attendances due to the effects of Father Time.

I consider Celtic have been misguided and short-sighted here and have garnered little but ill-will from Celtic family men.

I was up at the TO around 4.30pm picking up Ross County tickets. It was busy and initially I thought it was people buying tickets for tomorrow or Saturday.

I had to wait at the side because only one of the counter staff had the tickets I was looking for. Being a nosey begger I listened in to those being served and soon realised that the majority were there to buy season tickets.

  12. Delighted the mullet got beat tonight.

A 10th of a coeficient point makes no difference, and if we do get into the group stages, we get all the money.

And even money was a steal.

  13. My tuppence worth regarding the increase of season tickets for under 12s from £50 to £125:

If as has transpired CFC were going to set a price for the ticket when renewals were sent out. If they were going to charge £125, that is what they should have charged when referrals sent out. The renewal did not as far as I know say, £50 until stocks last or dependent on Sevco 5088 getting into Division Three. Yes, that’s right as one who used to have one for my Son, I was charged £50 it did not include orc games. If I wanted the two orc games for my Son I had to pay £125.

How can it be that you are charged £125 to include arguably your biggest foe and yet, they are liquidated (as good as, splitting hairs) and you start charging an extra £75.

I would bet if anybody went to CFC with their £25 renewal form and were told, sorry it is now £125, they would have a case under trade description or similar. Different if you were a new season ticket purchaser, you would know that was the price.

I am not a Board basher. However, they have got it wrong on this occasion, FACT. And it will backfire big style.

As Setting Free the Bears posted, I and I am sure the majority of others would willingly pay an extra £10 and keep the £50 ticket. What is £10 over a season compared to £75 over a season to a Bhoy or Ghirl who has no money. I bet you would bring in much more money.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

I agree, I would happily pay an extra tenner to keep the £50 ticket for under 13’s. The season tickets may be selling well, driving up prices(demand), but in ten years how many “customers” will be missing because they didn’t get the chance to be introduced to the club now?

You’re right, a lovely, self-effacing man of the people (not THOSE people!). I met him up at Christ the King church in Kingspark where, as you say, he still lives. I was going in to see the priest with my soon-to-be wife and her father when my prospective father-in-law bumped into Sean on the way out. Cue some good craic and a delay going into the church as yer man enquired after us, how we were and so on, then was ever so happy to talk about the good days past and the good days to come. Oh and his brougue was as thick as ever!

My Dad (God rest his soul) was a pass-keeper – chatted to Sean regularly. Introduced me (on my several visits) – fabulous Mhan with a handshake like a vice – often wonder how often the Celtic has been discussed in the back porch at end of Mass on a Sunday?

St Mirren sell tickets directly to Celtic supporters, the allocation has nothing to do with CFC.

Unfortunately almost all tickets go directly to official supporter’s clubs and it’s extremely difficult to get them unless through a bus.

    ……………………………

Thanks Bloke. I’m very excited on both counts. I don’t know how many games I’ll make because of a change in family circumstances but I feel that I had to put my money where my mouth is. I’m one of the fortunate Tims who can afford to buy a season ticket. I’ve read so often on here of fanatical Celtic fans who had season tickets for years but because of unemployment etc they had to give up their ST. I feel for them. I’m going to do my bit for the Club and can’t wait for tomorrow night to come.
