The land of registration anarchy

796

So how about this scenario, Celtic Youths are trailing in their league with 10 games to go when they register three new players, but someone’s ‘at it’.  The players are all over-age but the date of birth on their registration forms have been incorrectly completed, so the players are registered and become eligible to play the remaining games.  Celtic Youths win their remaining games and win the league.

At the end of the season the deception is uncovered.  The people responsible for filling the forms out incorrectly are criticised but one is president of the Scottish Football Association, who give evidence to an inquiry that as the Association registered the players, the results must stand.

Time to “draw a line under it” is the line from the SFA chief executive, hoping with all his might that no one mentions the Scottish Youth Cup games the players also played in, which would invoke a parallel punishment to the one recently imposed on Spartans Youths for exactly the same offence in the same competition.  The chief exec also dismisses attempts to call those criticised by the inquiry to account as scapegoating.

Ridiculous?  Of course, but this is what we’ve just experienced, with another club, of course.

Challenging the verdict, if possible, is a worthwhile endeavour but it will only treat one symptom of the many issues facing Scottish Premier League clubs, who could be forgiven for losing the will to compete within the rules.  Fans of several SPL clubs now believe their best interests are served by playing in an environment beyond Scotland – for a whole range of reasons.

We have to work with fans of other clubs to make the case for the SPL, as a unit, to leave Scottish football (I see cross-club initiatives are already underway).

On a completely unrelated question, if you had £21m in the bank late last year, and you were burning cash at £1m per month, which year would you run out of money?

  1. Rangers finance director Brian Stockbridge claims the club were never expected to make a profit in the first year after posting losses of £7m for the last seven months of 2012. Stockbridge told Radio Clyde: “Nobody expects the club to be making a big profit in the first year. “We are not about trying to make profit at the expense of everything else.”

Lets remind ourselves what Chuck Said…

“If you look at the balance sheets at the end of the season you should see the strength of the two companies,” Green claimed.

“We are in the Third Division and Celtic are in the SPL and what I’d like you to do is promise me at the end of this season, when all the games are played, examine the balance sheets of the clubs and tell me which one is the strongest?

“Then let’s see who has got the strongest balance sheet.

“We’ve not got the debt that any of these clubs have and on the last day of the season I would really enjoy some clever financial analyst looking at the balance sheets and debt-to-equity ratio of every club in Scotland.”

  5. “We have now decided that Sports Direct will be the partner (for stadium naming). We had representatives from Sports Direct up for a fans’ forum a couple of weeks ago. We also had Derek Llambias of Newcastle United sharing his experience of how that helped his club.”

lol! It was only ever going to be them. A crappy £1M possibly raising ro £2.5M depending on certain triggers.

That stadium naming worked out well at Newcastle…

Fr Murphy was in tonight. I have not felt too bad today, although I notice the energy beginning to drain. But it is quite early yet. I got showered today and had my hair cut, which made me feel quite good. Ten years younger, the boys joke, but I feel twenty years older, the inevitable consequence of eight years of torture and imprisonment.

I am abreast with the news and view with utter disgust and anger the Reagan/Thatcher plot. It seems quite clear that they intend to counteract Russian expansionism with imperialist expansionism, to protect their vital interests they say.

What they mean is they covet other nations’ resources. They want to steal what they haven’t got and to do so (as the future may unfortunately prove) they will murder oppressed people and deny them their sovereignty as nations. No doubt Mr Haughey will toe the line in Ireland when Thatcher so demands.

Noticed a rarity today: jam with the tea, and by the way the Screws are glaring at the food. They seem more in need of it than my good self.

The other clubs will not comment. Celtic have to go alone on this one and hope the other clubs back us up.

I would still hope the club are looking at legal action as to why a guilty verdict receives such a paltry and pointless punishment.

“Johnny Russell faces spending the rest of the season on the sidelines after tweeting he has fractured his fibula.

The Dundee United forward was forced off in the first half of the game with Inverness CT last midweek, after Josh Meekings’ strong challenge.

Russell missed the derby match with Dundee in the Scottish Cup on Sunday and, following an X-ray on Monday, says he has sustained a fracture.

He tweeted: “Absolutely gutted. Got an X-ray this morning on my injury and I have fractured my fibula.”

Meekings also took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to apologise to the player for the tackle which led to his injury.

“I would never intentionally go out to hurt somebody, and I wish Johnny the speediest recovery possible,” he said.

“I made a tackle and I won the ball. However unfortunately Johnny has came out injured.

“Like I say as a player I hope he is back soon.”

Investigation was not part of the LNS remit-he was charged solely with hearing the evidence, and to adjudicate accordingly.

The only organisation which could offer evidence on eligibility was,of course, the SFA,and in particular, the officer charged with that responsibility.

LNS was never in a position to cross-examine Bryson, that had been taken care of by the narrowness of the remit,to judge the evidence presented.

That there is no precedent in SFA,or even UEFA/FIFA,history to back up Mr Bryson’s claims is irrelevant.

Neither is the fact that there are plenty of contrary precedents.

Bryson lied,of that there is little doubt, but LNS was in no position to say so.

He was only charged with hearing the relevant evidence, and adjudicating accordingly.

The stitch-up began L-O-N-G before he was invited along.

  18. I have read the many thoughts and statements that so many of you have shared on here in the last few days. Like everyone else I have been incensed by what has happened and I long for change. But I will have to look to others for solutions.

One thing I do know is that we have to stand “shoulder to shoulder”. Throughout our 125 years as a football club we have been attacked from every side but we have never allowed anyone to destroy us. For most, but not all of us, that has been part of our history for centuries.

After the Battle of Clonegal in 1650, Cromwell stated that my people were “to be erased from the valley and never to be heard of from the Nine Stones to the Wicklow border”. He did not succeed in destroying my people and indeed many of the ancestors of people on here. So why should we be deterred in our resolve to seek justice by the likes of the SFA. We have dealt with more deadly foes in the past and survived.

  21. Just seen a statement from the Gobby Yorkie on the STV site where he says that he will not give in to blackmail or terrorists with regard to Orlit’s WUO request.

Is he really calling an institution that he used to find investors a group of blackmailers and terrorists?

The Italians had a secret weapon during WW2.

A tank with 4 reverse gears and 1 forward gear – in case they were attacked from behind.

    __________________________________________________________

Don’t know why you perpetuate that myth. The Italians were in a war they didn’t want.Even Mussolini didn’t want it. Italians risked their lives sheltering thousands of escaped Allied POWs and Allied servicemen. As for the cowardice allegation my old dad saw, at first hand, the bravery of the partigiani in their fight against fascism.
