The language of defeat, crowd-sourced media management

1075

Speaking at the weekend, Kenny McDowell looked ahead to the cup semi-final saying “We aren’t going into the game fearing a big defeat.  If anything we are going into the game knowing we’ll have to be on our guard and wary of that, but we are not going into it fearing of losing by a big score-line”.

Admitting that he’s wary about the prospect of a big defeat is the last thing you want your manager to say publicly as you prepare for a cup tie.  It conditions everyone to the prospect of defeat.

From Ronny, it’s all positive: “It’s going to be fun.

“It’s good that this is a big game, so we won’t be underestimating the opponent.

“We are in a good position, we can win everything and that motivates.”

Big games, big results, are often won in the head before a team takes to the field.  You win because you know you’re going to win, because you know you can rely on your team-mates.  You know that if you do your job correctly, there is nothing the opposition can do, short of elbowing you in the face and hope you retaliate.

No game of football is easy and Ronny and the players will know they will have to work for anything they get on Sunday, but the preparatory work has been done.  The players are fit, rested and can’t wait for Sunday.

On a side note, I can’t believe how thoroughly the New Club advert has penetrated media coverage this week.  On top of Motivator McDowell, can you imagine ‘ex-players’, pundits and fans having to explain their existence and relevance in the run up to a semi-final?  This wasn’t a crowd-source advert, it was crowd-sourced media management, which ran rings around the best paid PRs in the business.

Let me know (celticquicknews@gmail.com) if you want a ticket to CQN 11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13 March – Cup Final weekend, as it happens, or you can buy a ticket at the bottom of this page.  I’m in the mood now.

Any runners former or present on here ?

.. set meself a 7km goal on treadmill for end of january.. got to 6.6km so far so pretty confident i’ll hit it… heavy weekends of boozing has kept me back

Question is… whats a decent time to do 7km in ?

Only starting training in november lightly after 7months of back problems but thankfully going good so far.

    ………………..

    Well done so far amigo!

In answer to your question, it depends on your age, weight and general fitness, but between 8 – 10 mins/ ml is a fairly good time.

If your between 20-35 you should be working up to 6-7 min/ ml pace, if 40- 50 plus and carrying extra weight like me, then any time will do as you’ll always finish ahead of a couch potato ✊

  6. I should say Proudbhoy, I’m an x runner who’s best 26.2 marathon was at 7min/ ml pace and best 13.1 was 6.25 min / ml pace.

Nowadays it’s 12min/ ml if I was still able to run, good luck.

  7. The Zombie fish rioters will disgrace themselves on Sunday.

They will give it hunnery at full pelt….for a few minutes, until they notice the way Celtic are knocking the ball about.

When we score a few…..you wont hear them….they will be drowned out…..by our bhoys celebrating.

Rangers are deid…..but there will always be huns…to beat:)

Spot on but you have to ask yourself why a certain number of celtic fans weren’t happy with the Ad hmmmm.

Just wanted to say well done Tommy Boyd – truth teller!!

Here’s another truth anything less than 3-0 will be a poor result in my eyes.

Good thing is Celtic have been coming to the boil then switching off – only a matter of time before it clicks and some team gets the hammering that is being stoked up. I really hope it’s a 6-0 Sunday!

I applaud the ad and the efforts of everyone who put it together but can you indicate what it achieved other than ex players & media lapdogs passing opinions.

If the lie of Same Club is allowed to continue, then unfortunately for many the game is a bogey!

Hopefully we have something else up our sleeves to enforce the anything but the truth narrative.

If I was the manager playing Celtic on Sunday I would tell my team to get in and about Broonie right away as he has a short fuse and if he goes off on one the referee might send him off giving my team 11 against 10 a better chance. I hope RD & JC ensure that every player walks away from any confrontation as we want to finish the match with 11 players on the park.H.H.

On paper I agree with you on the 3-0 but let’s see what kind of game we end up involved in. If it’s a brutal hack fest I’ll be delighted with 1-0 and no injuries.

    29..around 74kg and around 5ft 8

Did the 6.6km in 34 mins so was wondering if 7km under 40mins is decent .

Always been fit but pulled back now twice in 3yrs so have had couple of lengthy lay offs.. plus im not one to watch what i eat or drink so get unfit pretty quickly.

Dec/January has been very busy on the gargle aswel as its summer time here .

Hopefully can hit the 7km by saturday then set some new targets.

It’s also good to know how well you’re doing/ progressing, setting sensible targets and achieving or surpassing them is a great motivator on those dark wintry nights.

  22. proudbhoy,

I do a bit of running, started late in life. I would say 10 minute mile pace would be best suited to you. Get the distance and then you can look to reduce times if you want to, or you may prefer longer slow runs.

  23. That mob that died….Rangers.

Were probably the most corrupt regime in football history.

Cheated so long, that it became a tradition….Let us cheat….its our heritage.

Its going on still, just more blatant.

What makes me laugh…the way they just ignore every rule in the book, and get away with it.

Scoddish Fitba is as bent as bananas.

And yet….they still get away with it.
