Speaking at the weekend, Kenny McDowell looked ahead to the cup semi-final saying “We aren’t going into the game fearing a big defeat. If anything we are going into the game knowing we’ll have to be on our guard and wary of that, but we are not going into it fearing of losing by a big score-line”.
Admitting that he’s wary about the prospect of a big defeat is the last thing you want your manager to say publicly as you prepare for a cup tie. It conditions everyone to the prospect of defeat.
From Ronny, it’s all positive: “It’s going to be fun.
“It’s good that this is a big game, so we won’t be underestimating the opponent.
“We are in a good position, we can win everything and that motivates.”
Big games, big results, are often won in the head before a team takes to the field. You win because you know you’re going to win, because you know you can rely on your team-mates. You know that if you do your job correctly, there is nothing the opposition can do, short of elbowing you in the face and hope you retaliate.
No game of football is easy and Ronny and the players will know they will have to work for anything they get on Sunday, but the preparatory work has been done. The players are fit, rested and can’t wait for Sunday.
On a side note, I can’t believe how thoroughly the New Club advert has penetrated media coverage this week. On top of Motivator McDowell, can you imagine ‘ex-players’, pundits and fans having to explain their existence and relevance in the run up to a semi-final? This wasn’t a crowd-source advert, it was crowd-sourced media management, which ran rings around the best paid PRs in the business.
Let me know (celticquicknews@gmail.com) if you want a ticket to CQN 11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13 March – Cup Final weekend, as it happens, or you can buy a ticket at the bottom of this page. I’m in the mood now.

IF=OF………
Stuart Armstrong – Dundee Utd will charge us more than anyone else, after all we’re in the same division.
What do we think he’s worth realistically?
If we rock straight in with eg £2.5M and Burnley match it we might no be prepared to meet a higher demand from D Utd.
Let it lie for a day or so and then put the bid in at a late stage
Armtrong …wis that doped up yank that traveled France ?…..ye,d need a trong arm fir wit they whir pumping it we … :)

I still think the GB will have something very witty up their sleeve for Sunday, and it will be too much for the already permaraging mob at the other end.
A retaliation by way of banned party songs most likely.

If not, welcome still more!

as far as I know, 1.5 million is what has been reported. I think 2.5 mill for him and GMS in this window would be good business.

Have heard him mentioned, but I think he’s had very little football this season. I’d rather splash out on Armstrong.
cheers james

We must be wary on Sunday, not only of ‘Rangers’, but of our historic off-days at Hampden, almost always in our least successful competition, The League Cup.
Our inability to score early has allowed inferior teams to ‘shut-up shop’ despite our domination of possession – invariably we are scrambling ‘at the death’, either to hang on to one goal lead, or indeed to preserve a nil nil draw.
They will have studied the Ross County, Hamilton and Inverness matches, with vastly inferior players ‘putting us to the sword’, and they will set their stall out to stop us from scoring early in the game.
The key to the hammering they got at Hibs was the early goal conceded – after which they hadn’t a clue how to handle the game.
We must start ‘on the front-foot’, high tempo, pressing them in their own half – they will use Miller alone up front. If the game is tight into the second-half, look for Daly coming on and the launching of high balls from the half-way line.
Our discipline must absolute, ten men only rarely triumph over eleven – I fear that without an early goal, we could be looking at extra-time as they gain confidence and we are frustrated.
One only has to remember Morton at Celtic Park – let’s hope we give them exactly what they deserve….a damn good hiding!

Armstrong is a good player and I’ll be happy if Celtic sign him.
But this is simply how transfer business is conducted (with the exception of Man City, PSG and Real Madrid). United have asked for £2.5m and two interested clubs have made initial offers of less than that.
Even though Burnley have EPL cash behind them just now, Celtic have offered more for the player. We have made the highest bid for Armstrong.
If other clubs believe Armstrong is worth £2.5m then they will come in with offers, but there does not seem to be a rush to pay the asking price from any club – not just Celtic.
wonder wit happens to all them tennis balls ? they only use them for about 20 minutes …I had the same one for about 3 years when I was wee….kept it hidden in a sock in the boiler press………..

The team we are playing on Sunday has risen through the divisions with an excellent record and are currently second in the Championship. They have already beaten two Premier League side this year and one of them is challenging for second spot in the top division. Most honest fans/supporters would know that this is no gimme. Stop kidding yourselves on bhoys. Of course we SHOULD win but they are not as bad as some make out.Just because we want them to be rubbish doesn`t make it so.

If you contact me via Paul celticquicknews@gmaiI.com I spend a bit of time in bars down there and can put you in touch with a Tim with nearly 10 yrs experience running one.
It would be worth your while talking to him.
The Rangers fans want all the used tennis balls they can get so that they can throw them into Ibrox to disrupt a match.
Hope Andy Murray has a large suitcase to bring them home to save then from having to buy them at Mick’s place.
or they could use them as super dooper insulation ……never an abondoned game again …hehehehehe

The Wimbledon balls used to get shipped out to sports shops around the country and sold. They were all knacked though and not worth buying.

£1.5m for a player who’s done nothing of note and plays for a small scottish club is Proberly to much, he would struggle to get in our first team.
I live in dundee and my mates who support United say on his day he’s great but when he’s not he’s useless

Knackered? The balls are changed after every nine games ( seven for the first batch).
Virtually brand new! Just like golf pros having a new ball every hole or so. I have been using the same one for months!

I think £1.5m is a decent opening offer.
========================================================
I totally agree. This is a classic negotiation tactic – open with the lowest believable offer to test DUs resolve and possibly re-frame the asking price.
Next step – wait for DUs reply. Then PL will have a better view on the room to manoeuvre.
Step 3 – start to trade, never concede without a return e.g. we will move to £2m but want GMS now.
To go in with a first offer either just below or equal to the asking price is weak negotiating.
And before anyone comments on how and where I spend my time
GIRUY :) :) :)
Reading on Burnley forum that they have confirmed bid has been knocked back and Dyche doesn’t think they’ll increase offer

Players whose great days are frequent cost a bomb because they have so many.
That’s why the asking price is circa £1.5 to £2.5 because surrounded by better players SA might have more great days.
I think he will hold down a mid field place as a regular. He has the attitude.

Hi mate.,
Distance = Speed X Time
Speed = Distance / Time
Time = Distance / Speed
Take yourself along to a running track.Time yourself how long it takes you to casually walk 100metres and use above to work out your km/h.
Like jobo points there are mapped routes in Pollok Park,ones also for Rouken Glen, Pentlands, loch lomond, beecraigs,most big city parks/national parks give them.
Go up to loch katrine walk round loch for an hour then come back.
(Am just tryin to get yi walkin :-)
If you are recovering from a back injury I would pay attention to footwear.Solid support trainer, vibram sole,it will help your back if your body weight is supported by a good cross/mountain trainer.
