Football is quite mad. Justin Osagie (now 20), signed for Celtic from West Ham United’s youth system three years ago. Two years later, he was released without making an appearance. That was followed by a similarly barren period at Peterborough United, who released him in May. The player now has a Chelsea contract.
Players develop at different stages, but at the risk of underestimating Chelsea’s player development capabilities, the chances of Justin making the grade, or even being in the senior game five years from now, are low. So what’s going on?
At many clubs, several coaches have authorisation to make contract offers to players. As well as those who recruit for the first team, others have budget to enhance youth or development squads (they are not always the same thing). I’ve known coaches down the ranks at a club to be under pressure to spend their budget. Failure to do so, is a failure (see feedback on Celtic’s failure to spend sufficiently on the first team in the summer).
This results in deals being done which don’t always pass the sniff test, like this one. Chelsea are also absolute masters at rebranding a player. Couldn’t cut it at Peterborough? What will a dozen appearances for the Chelsea development side do for his value? That kind of branding has attracted bids for more than a few players with ‘limited potential’.

“They live in a small strip of land that is mostly desert. Few on here have a scooby what that means.”
And you do?
” They don’t need you putting fuel on the fire.”
Who is the ‘you’ you refer to?
“Not easy to put your head above the parapet.”
I’m sure it is from the couch.
Plus, I have seen no support for Hamas on these pages…

Oh to be a teenager again.
“Has to be an alternate future for the people of Gaza and the West Bank that doesn’t involve Hamas or Israel. Israeli people are not the monsters under your bed, if they could have peace with security they would jump at it. They are descendants of people displaced from Europe and Arab league nations, 2 million of the later when there was no mobiles Facebook, AI or any selfies. They live in a small strip of land that is mostly desert. Few on here have a scooby what that means. Give peace a chance. Hamas and Netanyahu must go. The ordinary Palestinians and Israelis need to sort it out, find a way to forgive and move on. They don’t need you putting fuel on the fire.”
“Israeli people are not the monsters under your bed, if they could have peace with security they would jump at it.”
Aclassic tactic of misdirection. No serious commentator claims “Israeli people” are monsters. The critique is of the Israeli state, its founding ideology of Zionism, and its 75-year-long project of settler-colonialism and displacement. Furthermore, the phrase “peace with security” is a loaded Israeli government talking point that has long been used to justify perpetual warfare and occupation. “Security” for one side has meant perpetual terror, drone strikes, home demolitions, and checkpoints for the other. The Israeli public may desire peace, but for decades, its governments have consistently chosen expansionism and land theft over genuine peace, as evidenced by the ever-growing settlement enterprise in the West Bank.
“They are descendants of people displaced from Europe and Arab league nations, 2 million of the later when there was no mobiles Facebook, AI or any selfies.”
This is a breathtakingly cynical attempt to create a moral equivalence that does not exist. The tragedy of Jewish refugees from Europe and Arab nations is real. However, using it to obscure the Palestinian Nakba is intellectually bankrupt. The 700,000 Palestinians ethnically cleansed in 1948, an event documented by Israeli historians like Ilan Pappé, were not displaced to make way for a “later” group. They were displaced to create the state of Israel. Their land, homes, and orchards were systematically seized. Their descendants now number in the millions, living as refugees denied their right of return by the very state that celebrates the Law of Return for Jews worldwide. The mention of “no mobiles” is a pathetic attempt to imply the event is a relic of a bygone era, ignoring that the Nakba is a continuing process of displacement and land confiscation in the West Bank to this day.
“They live in a small strip of land that is mostly desert.”
This is geographically illiterate and a well-worn propaganda point. Israel is not “mostly desert.” It has a fertile Mediterranean coastline, the agriculturally rich Jezreel Valley, and the Sea of Galilee. Through intensive irrigation, it has made the Negev desert bloom, often using water resources it heavily restricts from Palestinians. More importantly, this line is used to paint Israel as a desperate, barren little country, obscuring the fact that it is a nuclear-armed regional superpower and a high-tech economy that receives billions in annual U.S. military aid. Gaza, on the other hand, is one of the most densely populated places on Earth, described by its inhabitants as an “open-air prison.” Your framing is a profound insult to their reality.
“The ordinary Palestinians and Israelis need to sort it out, find a way to forgive and move on.”
This is the most insidious part of your post—the call for “forgiveness and moving on” without justice. This is the language of the oppressor. You are demanding that the victim “forgive” their tormentor while the torment continues. How exactly are “ordinary Palestinians” supposed to “sort it out” with “ordinary Israelis” while under military occupation? From the rubble of their bombed-out homes? While their children are in Israeli military detention? While their olive groves are burned by settlers? Peace is not built on the oppressed forgiving their oppressors for ongoing crimes; it is built on justice, equality, and the end of oppression.
“They don’t need you putting fuel on the fire.”
Solidarity with people facing ethnic cleansing and military occupation is not “fuel on the fire.” It is a moral imperative. The “fire” is the ongoing violence of the occupation. To tell people across the world, particularly from the safety of New Zealand, to be silent in the face of this injustice is to side with the powerful against the powerless. The people of Palestine have explicitly called for international solidarity and Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) as peaceful, strategic tools to pressure Israel, just as was done against South African apartheid.
Your entire post is a collection of regurgitated, centrist clichés that ignore power, history, and justice. It is an argument for the status quo, dressed up as a plea for peace. It is, in a word, mediocre. And in a conflict with such high stakes, mediocrity is complicity.
That doesn’t make sense, but Chelsea do do a lot that doesnt seem to make sense.
The joys of having loads of free money, and a business that doesn’t have the same pressures as us to balance the books

Rumour Thelwell sacked and that’s why Gerrard back in the running
Brendan Rodgers has praised Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston, as the Canada international gets set to return to the squad after a recent hamstring injury.
The 27-year-old defender was stretchered off in his side’s Champions League play-off first leg against FC Kairat back in August, missing nine games in all competitions as a result.
Now back in full training with his teammates, Johnston’s return to first-team proceedings appears to be imminent, with his manager opening the door to a return against Dundee this weekend.”I think it was obviously a big blow having someone of that quality out,” said Rodgers. [Celtic TV]
“Young Colby Donovan has come in and done very, very well. Tony Ralston is always a very capable player for the club and an international player, so it gave those guys a chance to get games.
“However, there’s no doubt Ali’s been a real pivotal part of the team for a number of years now. His power and the balance he gives both offensively and defensively are very important for the team.
“So, it’s great to have him back on the pitch and seeing that strength and power back in training.”
Last time out against Motherwell, Rodgers’ side left it late at Celtic Park to win 3-2, thanks to a late Daizen Maeda header. Despite getting over the line in that game, the manager admitted that his team were ‘not at the level’, insisting that their performance levels had to improve when the squad returned.
Now that the international break is finished, Rodgers wants his side to push on. “I just think it’s going to be time, but whilst you are waiting for that, you have to win games,” he said, when asked about how his side can build on their late win two weeks ago.
“I think that we’ve shown glimpses throughout the games, but not consistently enough. But the team is still winning domestically, and that’s very, very important. I think that really typified the mentality because that’s something that you can’t underestimate as well.
“We’ve played a number of games so far this season already, and we’ve had late winners in those games. So that tells you that the spirit is very strong in the team. The push that we get from the support is really galvanising the team. And it is a team that will go to the very end.
“So, these are all really positive things for us, and we want to get the performance level to a higher level, of course, in a more consistent way.”
He continued: “Let’s embrace all the challenges that come our way, both domestically and in Europe. It’s a really exciting period, and it’s what Celtic is all about, playing in these games and playing in the big games. And, for us, it’s that collective being together is always the attitude that we want to show.
“We’re excited by these games that are coming up, and we want to go in and embrace the challenges. Everyone together fighting for the same cause is what Celtic is about.”

Yes, very well said…Let’s see if Taurangabhoy responds.
I spent time working in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel. One of the stick out memories is when leaving Gaza, coming through the rubble of Jabalia, Ben Hanoun towards the exit point at Erez. Everything was cluttered, dust covered and grey. As I approached the fence I could see beyond the wall into Israel about half a mile away. It was white houses, terracotta roof tiles, green grass and palm trees. Most colourful it was. The contrast was both sad and nauseating.
If true, they are surely upending their entire strategy – DoF, coach with a modern style of football, buying using latest analytics. Now they’ll be back to Gerrard picking up his pals’ rejects from England.
If it happens, it’s probably better for us than Muscat, for the reasons Paul out-lined the other day.
Either way, the current crop of players are useless…
The Israeli general who headed military intelligence on 7 October 2023 said 50 Palestinians must die for every person killed that day and “it does not matter now if they are children”. Aharon Haliva said the toll in Gaza, which he put at more than 50,000 dead, was “necessary” as a “message to future generations” of Palestinians.
“They need a Nakba every now and then to feel the price,” he added.
So, yes, let’s all forgive and forget. Hasn’t the poor little desert that we call Israel suffered enough?

Genuinely interested – what was the feeling towards Hamas among regular normal Gazans?
What do you think the make up of the government after the west gets out will be? I’d be very worried that so many have been radicalized by the war, as soon as theyre able they will be looking for revenge
It’s very much a western mindset that views the legal right to forcibly resist occupation as being the actions of a radical.

“what was the feeling towards Hamas among regular normal Gazans?”
As you can probably imagine, it was divided. The more anti-Israeli faction supported them but there were also groups, other than Fatah, who opposed them and this is going to be an ongoing problem. There is no oversight at the moment and there are armed groups who will stand up to Hamas. Deir al Balah in the south was Fatah territory, Hamas had control of Gaza City. It was always easy to see who had control in certain areas by the flags on display…yellow for Fatah, Green for Hamas. The people I worked with belonged to Fatah and we had always to be careful in and around Gaza City and not only with Hamas but local armed gangs as well. Believe it or not, there were many ordinary people who did not harbour hatred for Israel. I love ordinary people. I’m not so sure if they will feel the same now.
Btw…the people I worked with I have lost contact with. One posted a picture of his destroyed apartment building, another of his bullet riddled house. The others lived together in a big family house in Deir al Balah. I have heard nothing of any of them for the past few months.

Seems that Nick Griffin, The Grayzone, Chay Bowes, Arron Mate, Keith Woods, Harry Vox, etc, can all see straighter than you can.
Why do you think people like you and the media smear people that none of you could lay glove on politically or otherwise.
Why do people like you and the media NEVER mention who is financing immigration into Western countries and why they are doing it?
Because you are cowards and virtie signalling, cheap punk useful idiots.
Why do you think that cowardly Corbyn NEVER calls this out or why it is being done?
Only Galloway and his Workers Party of Britain and the ALBA Party have the answer.
100% withdrawal from always at war NATO.
No Wars = No Boats.
No Lobby controlled political Party will deal with the 1 million immigrants per year questions.
Where will they all live?
And what will be cut to pay for it all?
During the Covid scam when nobody was allowed to travel, 1 million immigrants still traveled into UK and not a single one of them was tested for any virus.
Why was that allowed?
Because its all part of the plan.
How many scams will you fall for?

The Parliaments in Scotland, Ireland, NornIre, Wales, EU, US, CAN, Australia, NZ, etc.
All owned and controlled by the Lobby with only Poland’s Parliament refusing to be ZOG controlled.
So Who controls immigration into Western mainly Christian countries?
Why is it only the Workers Party of Britain who say:
“CHINA IS NOT OUR ENEMY, IRAN IS NOT OUR ENEMY, RUSSIA IS NOT OUR ENEMY.
WESTMINISTER ISRAEL CONTROLLED POLITICAL PARTIES AND THEIR RIGGED ECONOMY ARE OUR ENEMIES!”
Why indeed.
Why don’t Celtic demonstrate their nutrality and sign players from Russia, China, Iran, Indonesia, and many other NON Western ZOG controlled countries?
Why do Celtic allow our great name to be sullied by participating in Lobby rigged and corrupted Uefa tournaments?
Celtic FC’s soul should NEVER be sacrificed for ANY amount of crooked money.
If that means no Europe then so be it.
Nor should Celtic players be released to play in any ZOG controlled International tournaments.
Why don’t we have fans who can see in a straight line since the Thatcher all seating hoax was rolled out?
