Football is quite mad. Justin Osagie (now 20), signed for Celtic from West Ham United’s youth system three years ago. Two years later, he was released without making an appearance. That was followed by a similarly barren period at Peterborough United, who released him in May. The player now has a Chelsea contract.
Players develop at different stages, but at the risk of underestimating Chelsea’s player development capabilities, the chances of Justin making the grade, or even being in the senior game five years from now, are low. So what’s going on?
At many clubs, several coaches have authorisation to make contract offers to players. As well as those who recruit for the first team, others have budget to enhance youth or development squads (they are not always the same thing). I’ve known coaches down the ranks at a club to be under pressure to spend their budget. Failure to do so, is a failure (see feedback on Celtic’s failure to spend sufficiently on the first team in the summer).
This results in deals being done which don’t always pass the sniff test, like this one. Chelsea are also absolute masters at rebranding a player. Couldn’t cut it at Peterborough? What will a dozen appearances for the Chelsea development side do for his value? That kind of branding has attracted bids for more than a few players with ‘limited potential’.

ACSOM : state of the place?

Cheers BSR.
Actually watched this (almost all of it) across the last two days.
Respectfully, to the two gentlemen involved …
… it reminded me of the old quip about the Oscars awards ceremony.
“A 2-hour show … squeezed into 4 hours”
IMHO, overly long at 67 minutes and very repetitive …
… plus the (now) standard gradually increasing superlatives.
“tired” at the start of the show became “crumbling” midway through.
Very decent core message though and certainly thought provoking … but needed to be punchier ?
WEEBOBBYCOLLINS on 15TH OCTOBER 2025 2:34 PM
Thanks. The last two years must have been a very worrying time for you.
Thats the concern isnt it, decent, normal people have been so traumatized that they’ve been turned against a peaceful solution forever. The horrors of the war and the trauma they have all lived through have made a stable Palestinian state almost impossible.

BACK TO BASICS – GLASS HALF FULL
Yeah , he went a wee bit OTT to prove a point.
The Celtic Way funded by the Common Wealth Games, is another indictment of our lack of investment.
Cheers again, BSR.
Your reply reminded me of (what I thought was) the best bit in the entire piece …
… which had almost nothing to do with the stadium.
And it was the discussion about legacies left by those who were neither players nor managers … which ended with the question
“For those directing the club across the period 2005 to 2025 … in 30, 50 or 70 years time what will your legacy have been?”
(Possibly not an exact quote, but best as I can remember)
If I was on the board?, regardless of money earned or KPIs achieved?
That question, publicly asked, would trigger some pretty serious reflection.

For anyone who is interested…One of my friends in Gaza has just resurfaced and posted this in the last hour.
It is just so sad…
“We don’t just cry, we drown in losses that exceed the very limits of grief. We live in a long chapter of grief, where our souls break in silence, and a moan arises that only those who have experienced similar pain can hear.
We’ve lost those we love, names that walked the earth like lights went out inside us. We have left behind years of life swept away in a whirlwind of absurdity, leaving only ashes. Our houses are no longer but blurred images in memory, shadows of stone that once sheltered us, and whose warmth has become a painful nostalgia.
It is not simple grief, but pain that dwells in the body and weighs down the soul. It’s that heavy silence after the storm, when you realize that nothing will ever come back, and you still have to continue the road, even if all signs of life have disappeared from the side of the road.”

Why was the board not sacked for not sacking Rodgers?
What kind of club is it?
If it was Neil Lennon who failed against KA his football life head would have been stuck on a spike on the Celtic way months ago.
Aye it would!
Who got Neil Lennon removed from TNT co-commentator position for saying any Celtic manager who plays tippy tappy in every game, including the CL, and gets Celtic thrashed by CL Galactico clubs, then continues playing the same way the next season?

Celtic fans lose 500 seats for the semi-final because of the toddlers who were told not to play with matches.
The toddlers today announce that because of this they will boycott the semi-final (no hint of irony).
So, for the Europe League they refuse to support Celtic because they are angry with Celtic. For the semi-final they will not support Celtic because they are angry with the SPFL (for sanctioning them for illegal acts).
It’s hard to keep up. Glad to know the revolution is in such safe hands.

If there really are 50 Celtic bloggers could we all chip in and ask one of them to hand over his website to a guy who clearly needs his own private space to vent…

Thanks for sharing recipe the stadium.
Absolutely agree it is a mess. Really poor.
Spot on re Commonwealth funding. I wonder if it would have been done if not.
I think it reflects the policy of seeking quick return on any capex which the club has employed. It was justified when we were dealing with an over heating competitor and then when we suffered financially during their demise period but perhaps not so now.
Back to Basics
Totally agree re the video being about 40 mins too long. Maybe even 50 minutes too long but good points made and to Bournesouprecipes point perhaps no harm in a wee bit of repetition.
Ref custodian legacy.
I would suggest a legacy which had the club winning 16 leagues out of 20 in the period you mention 2005-25 is actually quite a legacy. One which took us to being the most trophied team in Scotland whilst living within our means and seeing off a financially doped rival. A 20 year period unlikely to be repeated.
Just a thought.

I’m glad your friend is still alive. I’m reading Plestia Alaqad’s “The Eyes of Gaza” and it is beyond unbearable what they’ve endured and its only day 12… I cannot imagine what your friend has had to bear witness to for 2 years. We cannot allow their suffering to be for nothing.

A lorry loaded with thousands of copies of thesauruses overturned this morning. Onlookers were stunned, startled, aghast, taken aback, stupefied, confused, shocked, rattled, paralyzed, dazed, bewildered, mixed up, surprised, awed, dumbfounded, nonplussed, flabbergasted, astounded, amazed, confounded, astonished, overwhelmed, horrified, numbed, speechless, and perplexed.”
That really made me laugh ( I`ll resist any temptation to use a variety of `laugh` synonyms!).

Re. the comments yesterday about Celtic not taking a taxpayer funded Covid loan that will probably never have to be repaid – did anyone manage to dig through the Articles of Association to show it was refused in order to pay dividends and bonuses?

Cheers.
The trophy legacy I kinda get.
Among the current gloom, not acknowledging the historical swing feels a tad “What have the Romans ever done for us?” maybe
BTW – Rxngers fans (of v1 certainly) going back 80 years to c.1928 from 2008 would NEVER have remotely considered the possibility of Celtic overhauling their trophy count.
On the stadium itself, and based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever (comms again) …
… I had an inkling the board might have had an aspiration (not a plan) that went something like
CL group last season, this season, next season (before the Scottish coefficient drops off a cliff)
Continual CL presence builds the brand
Move cash in hand from £80m to £95m to £110m.
Then go for it.
£150m spend on
New, larger, South stand
UEFA 5-star spec’d
Major refurb of the rest of the stadium
67,525 total capacity
If such an aspiration existed?
… it’s in the bottom drawer now !
“IMHO, overly long at 67 minutes and very repetitive …

You may have a point.
According to reports today the poor guy is “absolutely seething” about the meeting with Nicholson et. al. over a week ago.
I’m guessing the international break is over and it’s back to grifting, I mean business, as usual.

Genuinely, I’ve missed this.
What’s the story?
NEIL LENNON has jumped to the defence of under-fire Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell.
And he has warned Celtic fans they will struggle to get better men in charge
Still hoping for another chance Neil? Dearie me….
Bada Bing, quite possibly he,s simply being honest, as he sees things. He certainly must have a better knowledge of both than any of us.
Bada Bing
I spoke to Lenny and shared a beer with him in Tennents bar a few years ago .
I don’t know him it was just a chance meeting .
It was during his first stint as manager .
He waxed lyrically about DD and PL , plus wee Jamesy Forrest .
He has always held them in high regard .
Willie Haughey expressed his admiration for DD recently aswell.
I also spoke to Chris Traynor , and he really admires DD.
I’m desperately disappointed that we don’t get out targets in before CL qualifiers .
However .
Chasing DD would be a mistake in my eyes .

That is exactly my opinion on Lenny’s opinion .

That was Greenpinata and myself chatting of that yesterday,It was Gp suggestion bout the link with Div and covid loan,I havent got time at moment but the div policy for that year will in the investor section for the year concerned,t’net where I am is v poor.
I dont have access to the investor centre to verify below but asking AI they lay out like so.
FY to jun 2020,peak of disruption
3.5p per share interim in Apr
0.0p on final dividend
FY to jun 2021(empty season)
No interim/final dividend over that year
Dividend policy described as one of prudence and preservation
Hopefully Greenpinata could maybe supply a source for his link with div policy & covid loan

I agree.
However a restructuring of how our board carry out duties, bringing in more new blood, more transparency re how our board are cross checked by NEDS,setting duty time limits, fully maintaining our share listing(22% of all shares are not up to date, thus voting rights default to board)
TT I feel PL will go soon,at 67 or so retirement beckons.

I was recently at a wedding in Glasgow and was in conversation with a Celtic NED whom I had never met before.
I told him I saw Paddy Crerand play for Celtic. He replied in a squeaky voice — NAW YE DIDNAE.
