The more we win, the more we want to win

27 wins in 28 visits to Hampden since Brendan Rodgers first arrived at Celtic in 2016 is a record which has elevated the Scottish and League Cups to a level not previously known.  Earlier generations were used to seeing ‘provincial’ clubs picking up a cup on a regular basis; even Jock Stein’s Celtic made a feature of this with an unfortunate run of League Cup Final defeats.

Not now.  These days, the chance to win either of the Scottish domestic cups is cherished by all.  Ask around.  Your Newco fan pals cherish their 2022 Scottish Cup win over Hearts and last term’s League Cup Final defeat of Aberdeen.  St Johnstone will celebrate their two cups in a season for much of this century.

The more trebles you and I get to celebrate, the more we want to win.  Yesterday’s 5-0 victory over St Johnstone did not quite match our 6-0 Scottish Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen earlier this season, but it challenged the rest of the pack to raise their game if they want a sniff of silver.

Yes, poor Alan Preston’s hair was on fire yesterday as he implored Scotland’s top clubs to “raise their game” and put a stop to he says is a one horse race.

For sure we would all like to see the level of competition rise lest Celtic become stale and complacent, but I’m trying to recall what the SMSM were saying in the era of succulent lamb, fine red wines, hover pitches and floating hotels🤔

  2. Fans paying top dollar to get short changed,£42 a ticket, 10 subs ,2 VAR reviews, no added time, yes I’m talking through my pocket as I had Maeda hat trick at 28/1 for a fiver

Who decided just not to bother with the 8-10 minutes or so of the added time, and why?

Thank you for checking out the information about the mysterious flag. I thought it might have been the Barra flag but checked it yesterday. Similar but different. Should have thought of checking out the other islands. So South Uist it is then. Thanks again.

    They made it up then?

I thought the VAR intervention for the James Forrest penalty was pure Alan Muirish, and we know how that ended.

Celtic supporters could have another 10 years of young Andrew’s expertise.

  7. We can only beat who is in front of us. If we turned up, St Johnstone were never going to beat us. We did turn up.

We won magnificently playing fast attacking and exciting football. This is the way we go forward as there is no doubt our domestic product is diminishing. ( Anyone disputing this needs to watch the full borefest on Saturday with arguably the 3rd and 4th biggest Scottish teams )

Hopefully 9 trebles is on the cards and then mega focus on Europe.

    HH, the journey continues.

  8. Folks complaining that the game ended when it did….

Not me, not while I’ve got Celtic to win 5-0 at 12/1

For those predicting 6-0, nice try but no coconut

Personally have no issue with ref blowing full time at 90 minutes.

    Outcome assured.

    Goal difference isn’t a factor.

Tired players more likely to injure / get injured

    Great performance.

Enough is as good as a feast.

Didn’t think the ref was great yesterday but, to be fair to him and his bosses, he needs to get experience somehow.

VAR helped him out as it should.

    He didn’t influence the outcome.

Still not a penalty for me.

James bumped separately three times. IMHO each was 40% a foul.

Cumulative impact is not factored in refereeing … .. so not 120% a penalty.

  10. That’s what’s on show when Callum and Rio turn up ,we played exceptionally well .

Hopefully we can put Dundee united to the sword at the weekend . Then move on to face Barry,s hammer throwers , we know how they will play ,we know we will face total aggression from them and a MiB turning a blind eye to it . If Callum , and Rio in particular show some bravery we will take them , for they are two very special players .

Watching BBC news and St.Andrews RC in background brought back memories with my Mother and Father. We visited the church Saturday morning November 26th 1966.Hearts were visitors, to Celtic Park,an o.g. and two goals from Joe McBride, one a penalty almost on the final whistle.Sat in main stand with my parents treasured memories.

    ——————–

we score 20% of our goals after the 85th minute.

i dont understand the logic of the early leavers with the game is over/ we wuz bored mantra.

seeing celtic score anytime, makes me happy.

play the at least 7 minutes added time, we would have scored again.

i read yesterday, our record score in the scottish cup is 8-0, and i think 6-1 in a semi final, we should be mindful of these records when we have the chance to equal them or indeed create a new historical footnote.

    i still feel cheated,

and as to the 8000 or so empty seats, dearie me.

  13. btw,

really poor of the beeb not to give reo an asisst for the daizen 2nd goal, he passed the ball, the saint johnston player just deflected it slightly.

and it is a penalty all day long 3 deliberate attempts to foul jamesie,

  14. Thought the referee was very poor yesterday endless nothing free kicks for St. Johnstone and as for their ‘goal’? An absolute scandal as replays show he was 10 yards away looking at the play how did he ‘miss’ the very blatant, two handed push on Idah? VAR did deal with it but a semi competent referee would have blown for a foul long before the shot was taken.

all about game management and wasting time, will he be called out for it by willie collum

  16. The empty sections between the two groups of St. Johnstone fans was disgraceful planning by the SFA. They should have sold the tickets so that these groups were placed together and one of the empty sections used to accommodate extra Celtic fans who were denied the opportunity to attend. The SFA are rank amateurs. This was an opportunity to make extra money.

I imagine they would be clinging on to some faint hope that the recent result in Perth might be repeated and were so gutted by our 5-0 that they couldn’t wait to get out of there and back to the ludge/Crown bar/Louden (delete as appropriate) .

Just like the non penalty . VAR couldn’t deny the clear evidence of the push on Idah , but they couldn’t stomach facing the truth of the forearm smash to Jamesie’s face . Dallas is indeed a chip off the old block.

  18. Afternoon Celts…

    Great game yesterday….

Fast start and relentless, like all these occasions, plenty of players deserve the plaudits.

The midfield were the standouts though, Engels is an exemplary player, Luke came on and looked very good.

Great to see Bernardo getting some game time, we need to get the bhoy match fit, plenty of games before the end of the season for that.

Upfront we look great, one and all, Jota took his goal looking different class.

VAR causes more controversy the it’s supposed to reduce.

Andrew Dallas shouldn’t have intervened in the awarded penalty, three fouls

    on James Forrest.

Michael Stewart said Adam Idah ‘was fouled but should have stayed on his feet’

Where do you go with that mindset?

Semi automated offside next up when the SFA figure it out.

While I get what you are saying and agree it was a shambles, I think part of the problem was that a good number of the saints fans didn’t want to pay the £40 to sit in the south stand so bought the best seats in the Mount Florida end.

Maybe the Board is hoping we can replace Greg with Mitch Frame @ £300 a week? No?
