Ange Postecoglou wasn’t there for the 2019 League Cup Final, or the late winner over Lazio Christopher Jullien scored a couple of months earlier, so the boss does not have the emotional attachment you and I have to Chris.  With Cameron Carter-Vickers due to return to Tottenham and Jullien having made only cameo appearances since his injury in December 2020, Celtic have vacancies two central defenders.

Cameron was out best performing defender in a season which saw the defence resolve the legacy issues it carried into the campaign.  If we can get him at the suggested £6m, he is excellent value, even if add-ons and sell-on fees suppress the notion we are getting a bargain.

At 29, Christopher is still young enough to earn two lucrative contracts, but only if he plays football next season.  I am sure his agent has been given the green light to find a deal, with Celtic scouting a replacement to push Cameron and Carl Starfelt for a starting place.

I would like to see a central defender who can break the lines in the way Kristoffer Ajer did – the taller the better.  Next season is going to be difficult, securing out top performers is only part of the answer.

    Kinda reflecting on my decision to buy a couple of flights to Albania back in early February.

     

     

    My real faith in Ange post the 3-0 demolition of the league leaders back then was such I thought we really could win the Europa conference.

     

     

    A final with Feyenoord to celebrate and commemorate the life of Wim Jansen was what I had in mind back then.

     

     

    The president of Albania would have surely ensured we had the majority of a small but perfect little stadium backing ‘his’ team.

     

     

    Even the date was perfect 55 years to the day of our only European trophy win.

     

     

    I never foresaw the rangers going past Dortmund and I certainly did not expect our injury recited team to be comprehensively beaten by Bodo…..

     

     

    That said I am happy with where we are on our Ange journey. Hopefully he has learned a bit about the levels above our rivals at which we need to operate in order to continue to win domestically. Hopefully we get a decent draw and a chance of Europa / Champs league post Xmas.

     

     

    We will be the new boys at that level. We will have a Bodo factor in amongst the big boys. Hopefully we can add a bit of the ibrox mobs steel to our skill and we really could be looking at something special next season.

     

     

    I hope our Albanian fan enjoys hosting his big event tomorrow night. I hope football wins. Whatever that looks like ? I love having 3 European tournaments and that the chance for a moment of glory can be shared. That is progress.

    What I said was the origin of the word and its original context expressed anti-Irish sentiment. I am sure that the poor emigrants at the time would have been mainly Irish. The Catholic Irish remember only too well the phrase, ‘soup takers’. Over time, it has become a term used of Liverpudlians in general to suggest that they were all poor and couldn’t feed themselves.

     

     

    Now, please don’t dismiss me with some patronizing remark. I didn’t write the article and whilst it was the first time I had heard of this, it makes sense to me.

     

     

    Allow others to express an opinion. As it said in a song once:

    The word scouse is supposed to come from a type of German stew brought back to Liverpool by local sailors.

     

     

    I’m not aware of it being associated with poverty or Irish immigrants.

     

     

    I’d want more, and better, evidence than that article.

    My God…..it was 55 Years Today when Celtic became The CHAMPIONS of Europe.

     

    I watched Billy lift the Cup in my Uncles hoose in Dennistoun….i was only 11 Years and 5 Months old.

     

     

    History was made.
