The need to put a stake in the CL ground

Yesterday, we were an outlier; having a player harshly red carded by a VAR, then losing five goals away from home in Europe.  This morning, not so much.  Manchester United only lost the four goals when they went down to 10 men, but they were playing Copenhagen.  A truckload of compensatory sentiment accommodated Erik ten Hag as he explained his team’s defeat last night.

Copenhagen’s win was only the fourth in this season’s Champions League from a team outside of the top 5 leagues against a team from that monied group (Feyenoord, Galatasaray and Shakhtar have each won once), nothing from Portugal, Switzerland, Austria or Scotland.  The chasm between the haves and have nots is larger than ever.

This stat is unlikely to change in Rome later this month, for Celtic, a win on Match Day Six is important.  We need a stake in the ground in this tournament for next season.  Beat Feyenoord, learn quickly and move on.
