Celtic sit top of the league after two games but that has induced a false sense of security, as Newco addressed a shareholders’ meeting yesterday with the insight which will surely strike terror in a few at Celtic Park.
Newco chief exec Jim Gillespie told the meeting the club had secured a “Klopp-type” of manager, as opposed to the Guardiola-type, which he clearly finds inferior. You might think of Derek McInnes as a decent mid-table Scottish manager, but you just don’t see the whole picture. Hidden behind those many, many, many layers of failure, is an inspirational appointment for the Glasgow club previously known for being rank rotten at recruiting managers.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh told the meeting, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”. That was surely the moment Newco shareholders became convinced of where the league title was heading this season.
Cavenagh went on to say McInnes would resolve issues in the playing squad around “punctuality, nutrition and professionalism”. The manager certainly ensured captain Lawrence Shankland was never late for a meal during their season together at Hearts. He looks like the most nutritionally-endowed player in Scotland.
I heard good things about Jim Gillespie – that he is intelligent and knows the game. I also expected the US investors to be ruthlessly aligned to metrics, to adopt and enforce a proven strategy and to ditch cultural baggage. I have to concede, it is possible I overestimated the lot of them. Even Dave King wasn’t this much fun.

The biggest take away for me from their shareholder meeting was the refusal by Cavanagh to identify who owned the Club.
I found that amazing. Such a basic level of transparency denied.

Our recruitment division seems to have decided the only area we’re deficient in is up top – and addressed that quite adeptly.
With Colby and Raldo as cover for RB – and Swiss Army Scalesy as possible KT and AT cover – mibby they think we’re good for now in dee-fence also.
That leaves The Ox as fallback if the Hammers, put in a whopping bid for Arne ? Surely, Ox has to earn his corn in some meaningful way in the Euro campaign ? Or we dust down unwanted Reo as our Euro Speedwagon if Arne departs.
Assuming Hassan is in, would it be too optimistic to think we will also get a LB, Baur, the Lithuanian MF and a keeper whilst also keeping AJ and Engels???

Genuinely sorry for the lad Chermiti. ACL not easy to come back from.
But amazed if there really was a £20 m plus bid in for him. Even the Sevco fans think he is useless. I assumed it was a myth but Turkish sources seemed to break it (Turkeybhoy – any news at your end?). If it is true then we risk massively undervaluing Engels and AJ.
I would be surprised if AJ or Engels leave before the LASK tie – but will be equally surprised if both don’t leave before the transfer window closes.
