The not-so-new reality

390

A few points you can take to the bookies without losing your money:

If Joey Barton bet on the Barcelona-Celtic game odds of this being his first offence this season will be around 100/1. This ‘news’ has leaked at a time of choosing, not days after the practice started.

Joey Barton is a self-certified rule breaker, but if his induction process didn’t cover SFA rules about betting on football, a large portion of responsibility on this issue lies with his employer. And it’s not their first offence. I know many of the faces at Ibrox haven’t changed since the old days, but rules are not there to be ignored.

It’s palpably farcical to suggest anyone other than a died-in-the-wool fan wouldn’t “prefer to come to Celtic” than go to Newco Rangers, and even then, Scott Allan jumped at the chance to pull on the hoops. We could take our pick of anyone from Murray Park, or a supporters’ bus on its way to Ibrox, for that matter.

The world has changed. No one would pay attention to a St Johnstone player who said he rejected Celtic to go to Perth, claims that Joey did likewise are equally fanciful.  Welcome to the not-so-new reality.

A PLC that has ran out of ideas in how to invest ?

That’s what I read nobody is going to heavily invest with DD calling the shots.

So the answer to your post is that it suits DD. Nothing more, nothing less

    – A defensive mid

    – A Celtic Cafe

    – A fireworks display to celebrate 50 years

    – A step-change improvement in pie quality

    – An actual trip to Lourdes (before it becomes too touristy)

  11. I’m sure I am not alone in distinctly remembering how the Hun support gloated by waving bank notes at some games back in the late 1980s, especially against us, declaring ( loads of money etc) .

The first mob I saw doing this was that Chelsea mob, and then their Hun cousins followed suit, and all with money that they didn’t have in the first place !

It was also the same when they were sponsored by Nike, and look how that spiralled down to being sponsored by feckin Reebok !

How the shoe is on the other ” honest” foot.

  12. Cowiebhoy- back in the day, when Fergus came to power, our fire safety office had architects plans to have the main stand upgraded and connected to both ends of the stadium.

Those plans still exist, but there’s little point in increasing the capacity of the stadium until there’s a corollary demand.

  15. If there was going to be redevelopment outside the ground, what is the thing that would bring the biggest return? A bar.

What is the thing Police Scotland would have kittens over being outside CP? A bar.

If the elusive cafe is built it will be alcohol free…which might not be a bad thing…

  16. Bar/Cafe ?

This Penquin walks into a bar,

The barman says ” can I help you”

The Penquin asks” has my brother been in” ?

Barman replies” I dunno, what does he look like” ?

Waving bank notes in the late 80’s This was a disgusting happening during the Miners strike in 1983/4. It’s origins were not football orientated, although it’s copy cat immitations were obviously football and politically motivated.

Apologies to all for entering the social / political arena. However : The offshore industrial action by WG personnel is described and accepted by all parties concerned as being the first in a generation since the last 80’s early 90’s.

Question : How long is a generation?

Hail, Hail to all Celtic Bhoys and Ghirls.

Great post, my first meeting with wee Jimmy was when he was farmed out to Blantyre Celtic in the early sixties , what a player he was then, and capped for Junior Scotland as well.

  21. Did Celtic make a statement regarding Barton or was it part of an interview with PL?

If it was part of an interview, and he was asked the question amongst others, then I have no problem with him relating what actually took place.

The accounts statement is another matter entirely.

    No probs!

On your following post, yep the police have been active in campaigning against bar licences in the east end for particular pubs. That money wasn’t even going to Celtic, at least not directly!

And look at the resistance we faced with the safe standing project through GCC.

But we do always prevail in the end :)

Going to sports events in other countries has shown me that fan facilities, like a bar, really can work. I’ve been to Ice Hockey in Helsinki, football in Germany and in England, rugby in England and alcohol was served at each of these events and the atmosphere was pleasant.

But we’re Scottish…and we cannot be trusted with nice things…. ;)
