Liam Scales said that Thursday’s win over Portugal was his “best night in an Ireland shirt”. A lot has happened since. A win over Portugal in Dublin, aided by a Scales assist, turned out to be a preliminary for the 95th minutes winner the Celtic defender setup for Troy Parrot in Budapest yesterday. That result put Ireland into the World Cup qualification playoffs at the expense of hosts Hungary.
With the likes of Italy (and maybe Denmark) waiting in the playoffs there is still a lot to do before Ireland reach the World Cup proper but their winners stepped up when needed. A new generation of Irish football heroes has been minted this week and while Troy Parrot takes the podium, Liam’s contribution has been iconic.
Two years ago Liam was on his way back out the door on loan to Aberdeen. Injuries meant he was retained and he has since developed into one of the best defenders in the league, won Man of a Match award in the Champions League and a player who is excelling on the international stage. This is our model. Identify and develop players with potential. We have no other credible option.

So it looks like we’re toiling to land a manager.”
Could you explain that, please?
A manager, allegedly, like BR,who can bring players on,is all well and good, when he is given players he needs, and not what was happening .To dump more than a handful of”To be developed “,players on him, whilst he is still in the developing process,of players already there is as ridiculous as waiting until the last minute, then giving him 2 left wingers,AND,no striker.
Just how much time can a manager spend on individuals. Two potentials, are enough ,in any window, especially when you have to replace, big players sold, with like for like, which we seldom do.This season Brendan had,Kenny,Inamura,Shin,Donovan,Pusey, who was a” While you have time, develop this guy a bit for Man City”
For me,Scales is a very good CH.He has weaknesses, like the odd sloppy pass, spending too much time on the ball, was driving me nuts, but then I watch,MOTD,every Sat.,and see £ 50,60,70,million CHs all doing the same.Sloppy defending, passing, making huge cock ups.
Now I just think, yep,he will do.I have always liked Trusty,so,even CCV back, would be my starters.
I think Chairbhoy has been playing whack a mole this last week.
Even the easily led don’t buy your constant anti-Celtic pash mate.
You’re the only Celtic fan (lol) who wanted the huns to qualify for the CL.
Answer to yourself and not on here….Do you think BR wants Celtic to win the league this season?
No he does not is the answer.
A man who put himself first and was prepared to lose a league with us, the exact same as he done when he relegated Leicester.
The difference this time is DD and PL and even Willie Haughey could see what he was doing and acted.
try following the real outcomes of each share-issue.
you have false memories of what actually happened. from wiki and others

1995 Share Issue
Following his rescue of the club in 1994, Fergus McCann sought to raise money, and crucially expand the number of shareholders within the club by turning the club into a public limited company (PLC) by floating it on the London Stock Exchange. Part of the desire behind expanding the shareholding was to prevent one person, or a small group of people, run the club as had happened under the previous regime.
In early 1995 the club was floated on the stock exchange. The flotation was an unqualified success (the most successful share issue ever in a football club) and was over-subscribed and raised £21M. A feature of this flotation was that ordinary fans were encouraged to buy shares. 10,500 did contributing £9M in the process, with remainder being contributed by McCann and other investors. This take up of shares placed about 40% of the issued share capital with ordinary fans. These fans had not invested for financial returns, but rather for emotional ties to the club and many share certificates were framed and hung on the wall.
One fan who took up the opportunity to invest in the club for the first time was slightly different from the rest – Irish billionaire Dermot Desmond who invested £4M and took a place on the PLC board. Desmond would be key to future issues.
The money raised by the club through this issue was used to provide working capital, and was key to funding the massive redevelopment of Celtic Park.
1999 Share Disposal
Following his takeover in 1994, McCann had always stated that he would only stay at Celtic for five years, and he was true to his word. In 1999 McCann put his 51% shareholding in the club up for sale. This was not quite the same as the previous share issue, or the subsequent ones, where new shares were issued and the capital invested in the club. This was McCann selling his shareholding and the money would go to him and not the club. McCann did put in place an interest-free payment scheme which would help ordinary fans buy shares, however a nasty taste was left in the mouth. McCann had promised that if enough fans bought shares, then he would donate £1.5M to help fund a new youth academy at the club. While the amount raised by fans was more than amount expected, crucially the number of fans did not meet the targets set by McCann for this clause to be activated, i.e. fewer fans bought shares, but those who did more than expected (or required under the sale regulations). While McCann was correct that conditions had not been fulfilled, it was galling to the ordinary fans who had poured money into the club to see McCann walk away with a large profit and, in their view, welch out of the donation on technicality.
This disposal was underwritten by Dermot Desmond. 9,997,728 ordinary shares were offered for sale at £2.80 each. 7,525,880 (75%) of these were bought either by fans or by institutional investors. The remaining 25% went Desmond as underwriter. This increased his shareholding in the club to 19.8%, and for the first time he became the largest shareholder. At this stage 63% of the shares in Celtic were owned by the fans, 17% by institutional investors and the remaining 20% by Desmond.
Maybe Nancy has found out about the wretched bad luck which cripples our efforts every time we try to strengthen from a position of strength and is worried that the same bad luck will keep haunting us……
TB….if Brendan had went to the recruitment team/board in the summer and said I want to sign this £8m striker that is achievable and this £9m winger then we would have signed them.
Instead he turned his nose up at everyone of them and suggested the totally unachievable Grealish, Sterling and EFerguson.
Is Martin Boyle a better player than Yang?
Yes he is right now.
Why didn’t BR want to sign him?
Because his face tripping him.
Wake the fek up

Never understood the Scottish media – other than they love a drama, sensational headline above the truth. Celtic confirmed last week they would interview a number of candidates in London. When Nancy flew in (after Columbus crew latest match), the media painted it as “the man we want” “the next Celtic manager” the next Ange etc.
No, we were just interviewing. With Desmond, it’s much more than talk, philosophy , ideas , – he needs to see a leader of men, a stature – he can smell success.
It may well be Nancy – but I suspect we are waiting for a manager who will leave an international role.
I’ve no idea – just like the Scottish media
About to watch the Irish game again on Prime.
You can’t get too much of a good thing.
In June 2001, Celtic PLC issued new convertible preferred ordinary shares to raise up to £25 million for financial stability, player wages, and transfer fees. The offer was made by Old Mutual Securities at 125p per share and was intended to help the club keep pace with financial demands and plan for a more secure future. The issue followed a period of financial pressure for the club, highlighted by previous losses and increased player costs.
Purpose: The main goal was to raise up to £25 million to improve the club’s balance sheet, cover player wages, and facilitate new player signings. It was also a strategic move to secure the club’s future in an industry where many clubs faced financial difficulties.
Financial Context: The share issue came after a difficult financial period, with a reported loss and significant net debt. The club’s financial performance was directly tied to its on-field success, making the share issue a crucial step.
Offer Details: The offer was for new convertible preferred ordinary shares, priced at 125p each. It was managed by Old Mutual Securities on behalf of Celtic PLC.
Outcome: The share issue was a success, helping the club to become more financially stable in the following season. It was a step in the club’s strategy to gain long-term financial security
—————
so who bought them ?
he majority of the Celtic shares in the 2001 issue were bought by a group of prominent Irish investors led by Dermot Desmond, who became the club’s largest single shareholder. The remaining shares were primarily purchased by a large number of individual Celtic fans.
Key Investors:
Dermot Desmond: The Irish millionaire was the principal investor, purchasing approximately £10 million worth of shares in the issue. This increased his total stake to nearly 20% at the time, making him the club’s main shareholder.
Other Irish Executives: A syndicate of other wealthy Irish businessmen, recruited by Desmond, collectively invested a further £5 million.
Martin O’Neill: The then Celtic manager also invested a significant amount, around £2 million, in the share issue.
Celtic Fans: Around 2,800 ordinary fans subscribed to the remaining shares.
The share issue raised a total of £22.5 million out of a target of £25 million.

Dermot Desmond for Celtic multimillion dividend payout
Sun 22 Aug 2004 at 00:11
NICK WEBB DERMOT Desmond and a number of high-profile Irish investors are set for a multi-million dividend payout as their participation in a Celtic football club share issue three years ago comes to fruition.
Formula One boss Eddie Jordan, entrepreneur Denis O’Brien and ex-Damovo boss and new Livingston football club owner Pearse Flynn invested ?4.5m in a complicated fundraising issue in 2001, involving the issue of a special class of convertible preferred shares. The trio could share a special dividend payment of up to ?520,000 due on September 1, reports said.
Former Elan financial officer Tom Lynch ploughed nearly ?3m into the club. Celtic manager Martin O’Neill also invested close to ?3m in the share issue. There has been some speculation that O’Neill will not take his dividend payment, prefering to sink the money back into the club. The Ulster man is thought to be in line for a ?345,000 stipend.
Desmond was the biggest investor in the 2001 fund raiser, ploughing nearly ?15m into the new issue, which netted stg£22.5m (?33m) for the club. Desmond and the Irish investors took up 67 per cent of the shares, with some 2,800 Celtic fans picking up the rest of the issue. The special class of shares are set to become voting shares in 2007.
The IFSC-based financier is thought to be due a ?1.5m dividend payment. It is also believed that Desmond is set for a further ?2.36m stipend from a separate block of preference shares. A Celtic spokesperson didn’t respond to queries.
Last week Celtic reported losses of just over ?11m, despite the club’s remarkable run in Europe. However, despite the losses, the Glasgow club has slashed its debts down to ?23.3m. Turnover rose 14 per cent to almost ?102m.
The club has been quiet in the transfer market this summer with Wolves striker Henri Camara moving to the club on loan and Middlesboro’s Brazilian schemer Juninho poised to sign.
Neither the MSM or any bloggers are knows if we actually have offered Nancy the Job , or anyone else for that matter.
There are those that want to use the lack of a quick managerial announcement, as a stick to beat our board and DD.
We need less panic and to be even minded and composed .
I repeat that with MON we are in good hands .
We do not need to make hurried decisions .
DD has put in place a good interim measure .
It may take months to get the best candidate .
I for one will be content if MON is here for the rest of the season .

Ok I see your point, however the squad needs additions in light of the long injury list , who do we sign, for what postions and style of play?

DD brought PROPER Management structures to the club, for a month or 2, whilst other pretentious directors danced round about the TOXIC Rodgers Elephant in the room, on and off for NINE YEARS!
Saying that your happy with the player intake after EVERY Transfer Window, to then flip it over and say that you [Rodgers] didn’t buy any of these pishy players, as it was the club who did that, should lead to an instant Red Card, in ANY working environment, imho.
BUT.
When the manager is a 75,000 quid per week golfing buddy of DD, then the entire club is a white Elephant!
That Toxic Rodgers has gotten away with this cheap punkism on and off for 9 years, says that the ENTIRE Executive should be sacked along with Toxic Rodgers.
BUT.
How can there be ANY accountability at Celtic FC when 60,000 sheep just throw season ticket money to whatever Tory is in charge, Fergus McCann, Brian Quinn, John Reid, Alan MacDonald, Sumdy MacLeod, Peter Lawwell, Michael Nicholson, etc.
Any Celtic supporter BLINDLY, financially, supporting these creatures, IS THE PROBLEM!
No Jungle = No Balls/Mindset/Uppity/Narrative/Chanting/etc.
Now fans can’t be ersed holding up scarves for YNWA, as they are too busy looking up at the big screen to see their big empty baw heids on the screen.
Talk about cringe.
Capitalism has utterly cut the balls off of Celtic supporter base since 1994.

I understand that a new manage may not want MONS signings .
That being said .
I’m confident in MONS judgement .
Every manager inherits another managers players .
Let MON decide what we need .
He’s an intelligent man .( if the right man is unavailable now)
There is no point letting the wrong man sign the wrong players , just so we can say they were his signings.

I see you’re still at the joking Kevin. Gerry McNee and having a clue should never appear on the same sentence.
1. Called a Hun caller a moron and told him to get off the line when the Hun caller suggested that Rangers should sign Maurice Johnston. Ole Gerry told him that was never going to happen. We all know what happened next.
2. Told Celtic that it was a ridiculous idea to rebuild Parkhead with a 60000 capacity. 40000 is enough. They’ll never fill it.
3. On Scotsport (in the days when ITV showed the CL games) he signed off the programme when we had beaten Man United 1-0 by congratulating Celtic on a great win, “They’re not through yet but they’ve given themselves a chance” He didn’t even know we were through 40 minutes after the game had ended.
What an absolute tosser was Gerry. Presented a CL programme but was too lazy beforehand to research what the possible outcomes in the group implied.
4. Then there was the 3-3 draw at Ibrox when Andy Thom and Big Pierre scored goals. At 1-0 for us David Robertson scored for Rangers but it was disallowed. Gerry being his usual bumptious self missed the goal being disallowed and commentated for the next 5-10 minutes as if the score was 1-1 until someone brought it to his attention. No apology just a ‘we missed that because we were caught up in the rushes’.
This is the guy you have constantly referred to over the years as some sort of doyen of football journalism, Kev. He was a numpty.

Thanks for that.
When he bought shares in 1994 a large percentage were preferences shares which are effectively loans which pay a guaranteed dividend, but no vote, not ordinary shares which dont guarantee a dividend but have voting rights. So he has been benefiting from dividends but only from preference shares which are fixed income shares.
The 2006 issue was underwritten by DD, he obtained permission from the Takeover Panel before we could go ahead with the offering. If he hadnt underwritten the shares we would have fallen well short of the £15m we raised. It was “his money” that helped reduced the debt, but not all of it. £10m of the rights issue went to rebuilding the balance sheet – bluntly put we reduced the bank debt (the one that got the Buns in so much trouble) by £10m to £9m.
I sometimes think CQN would benefit from its own CQN wiki or sticky posts at the top of the site with all this easily verifiable stuff at the top of the website, and we could avoid all the easily disproved conspiracy crap appearing when it suits.
2005 share issue. See what I mean?
Some interesting stuff from back then
Our domestic tv revenue in 2001 was £3m while Leicester’s, a mid table EPL side at time was £15m
We made around £4.5m last year, Bournemouth made £135 in their last accounts.

Celtic PLC have become a SELF ENRICHING Capitalist club since 2008.
WHY?
Because there is no more any GERRY MCNEE columns EVERY Sunday to call the board out.
And the board have gone on to destroy Scottish Football.
WHY?
Because they bottled out of punishing David Murray for his EBT Crime wave in 2012, and instead, agreed that innocent football fans should be punished instead.
The PLC were allowed to keep their powder dry from 2012 – 2025.
WHY?
Because there is no more any GERRY MCNEE columns EVERY Sunday to call the board out.
