Kieran Tierney’s cross for Liam Scales to score Celtic’s fourth goal on Saturday encapsulates why Brendan Rodgers wanted the player back. Meeting a ball first time and sending a cross into the danger area sounds like an easy thing to do, but how many times have we seen promising moves crumble when the cross hits the first defender, clears the penalty area or goes out of play (looking at you, Daizen)?
That goal is an early indication of what we have discussed a few times recently. Celtic will pivot away from the inverted fullback system to the overlapping model. Kieran and Alistair Johnston (who is also naturally an overlap-er) will be asked to get crosses into the box.
This impacts who you need in the box (more like Adam Idah, less like Kyogo) and changes the shape of the midfield. It will be an interesting watch to see how this progresses between now and September.

It was a drubbing Paul, just not the one you possibly anticipated.
In the meantime we have now moved on three wingers while a 4th is out injured. Getting light out wide.

Marco Tilio to Rapid Vienna from Celtic is a done deal, with a loan fee of £350,000 and an obligation to buy of £1.3m being triggered for the 23-year-old winger, who spent last season on loan to Melbourne City, after 20 competitive starts. (Sky Sports), external
Celtic winger Luis Palma has been seen arriving in Poland after the 25-year-old Honduras international agreed a season-long loan deal to join Lech Poznan despite interest from the Championship, Turkish Super League and Major League Soccer. (Glasgow Times), external
Luis Palma insists it was his decision to quit Celtic to join Polish club Lech Poznan and he could even be handed his debut in their Champions League qualifier against Iceland’s Breidablik on Tuesday. (Scottish Sun), external
Royal Antwerp head coach Stef Wils admits it is “possible” that 24-year-old winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha will leave the club soon amid interest from Celtic. (Daily Record)
Kieran and Alistair Johnston (who is also naturally an overlap-er) will be asked to get crosses into the box.

af made hundreds of overlaps for kuhn , but seldom got the pass
Good afternoon all.
Tierney and Inamura looks better than Taylor and Schlupp.

Great to see a team at the top do all it can to stay there………
Overlapping full-backs isn’t just about getting crosses in, Paul. It’s much more about using combination plays (with the winger and wide midfielder) to isolate opponents and get in behind a defence – things we struggled to do at times in the second half of last season.
I’d be surprised if we don’t see plenty of underlaps from the full-backs and hopefully more cut-backs and low balls fired across goal.
Emdy mind when Ronny used to play both fullbacks on the offside line?
Such larks.
Re Paul’s comment on Idah and Kyogo….
Kyogo scored loads of goals by getting to crosses in the box. They just happened to be on the ground and delivered very quickly by Abada.
Lest we forget…

Kyogo was superb at using his pace to ghost in front of defenders to tuck away that low cross . From what we’re told about Shin ,he seems like a Kyogo type player who’ll stick away plenty of that type of goal .

Somebody needs to tell them that they are already far enough ahead of Everton and don’t need to get any better!

I’d be happy to see us using speed and surprise at the sharp end.

Still think Holm could do a job for us, he has agood bit of dig for sure
KINGLuBO
KL- I don’t think Holm is playing much in the US
Its part of flexibility promised. We need to use overlaps to get behind the defences. The same as long balls they need used to give flexibility. Neither of these moves were present in the cup final where we played out from the back with full backs tucked in

Really enjoyed the game on Saturday. Pre-season and all that but we looked good.
Made even better by the fact I am working in our Newcastle office this week. My boss asked me not to wear a Celtic top. OK says I, green gutties it is.

Love it.
Picking the bones through the possibilities for us after the 3rd round qualifier draw was made today.
We can’t now play Malmo or Lech Poznan or Rejika. So no Swedish champs or Polish Champs or Croatian champs.
Of course could still now face
Sturm Graz (Austria)
or Basel (Swiss)
Both like us will not have had the benefit of a European game before the Play Off tie.
Other options will be :
Likely Steau Bucharest or Qarbag
Likely Macabbi or Dinamo Kyiv
Likely Slovan or Kairat Almaty
These latter 3 will have had 1 or 2 or even 3 games.
I know my personal preference.
what is your preference?
i am noy buying into the mantra that we cannot beat those teams without bringing in more players .
only concern is ccv. but trusty just had imho his best game for us.
Enjoying reruns of all our pre season games in the Brazen. Next up, the thrashing of the geordies. It’s a hard life I tell ye. 🍻
“…clears the penalty area or goes out of play (looking at you, Daizen)?…”

thats completely unfair by P67.
Daizen is right footed, not left footed so is being asked to cross the ball in with his weaker foot.
KT is left footed.
still trying to work out who would win a race between the overlap-ers and the underlap-ers
Let’s all do the huddle
What about the lap dancers?🤔

Slovan or Qarbag with second leg at home.
Then Kyiv
Then Sturm and finally Basel.
Although Steau or Qarbag will be an interesting tie assuming the shels don’t cause an upset.
I really hope Kyiv can take care of Macabbi.

But it’s not a war, is it? “War is an armed conflict between the armed forces of states.”

Good afternoon, CQN.
Given the wide variety of members of this parish, weird and wonderful requests which have been made in the past have been met with vicariously successful answers. So, here goes again.
Visited Specsavers for my annual check-up recently and while there I requested that they take my bag of old specs for recycling purposes, as per their website’s advice. Then I was informed that they do not do this any more. They were also unable to give me any advice about what to do with my old glasses.
Back to the ole t’internet and despite ages on the damn thing, including follow-up ‘phone calls to various groups listed as interested in recycling said specs (including a company in my home town of East Kilbride, the Optical Factory, who work with an official charity ‘Sight Aid International’), the results were the same – zilch, nada, heehaw.
So, reaching out to my well-connected, extremely bright and widely motivated fellow Tims – does anyone know where I can get-rid-of-usefully, recycle or generally make use of my old specs? Or is it just the bin?
