The players, the manager and the board

503

Celtic controlled the first half at Easter Road without really troubling Hibernian.  That control shattered when Nir Bitton and, more culpably, Scott Brown, combined to concede an unnecessary foul then penalty.  The subsequent lack of urgency to follow Scott Bain’s save and daydreaming at the second Hibs goal was typical Celtic season 2020-21.

You were not surprised at the outcome.  Before the game I wrote a piece on Newco’s accounts (it is important and I will pick it up during the week) but I knew when I was writing it there was a more than decent chance we would have to address this matter instead.

The players have first responsibility to resolve matters, then the manager, then the board.  Doubtless there have been several iterations of attempted fixes, but none have been effective. It is not too late to rescue our season but it will be soon.

  1. Good morning, friends from a dry, bright and breezy East Kilbride.

Our league fixtures for December – St Johnstone (H), Kilmarnock (H), Ross Co (H), Hamilton (A), Dundee Utd (H), There should (should!) be absolutely no points dropped from those games.

Sevco have 1 extra game as they were papped out of the Scottish Cup months ago;-) Their league fixtures are Ross Co (A), Dundee Utd (A), Motherwell (H), St Johnstone (A), Hibs (H), St Mirren (A).

  2. I agree with some comments from Celtic fans tv blog

One of the contributors said Neil’s last team 8 years ago was a more physical team

This team is more technical 12 months ago it still had the BR shape

Now it’s all over the place

I have great respect for Neil, a great man and a great Celt.

If he is going, this is my take on the rest of the season.

Bring in WGS only until the end of the season to kick some ass, turn this around and win the 10.

While doing this, the board advertise for a new manager to come in at the end of the season, but be named by January at the latest. We find out who wants to leave the club and tell them they will all be allowed to go at the end of the season if a suitable offer comes in, we won’t stand in their way. The new manager can liaise with WGS in January transfer window and look to build HIS OWN TEAM from end of May onwards.

Pie in the sky obviously but thoughts kicking around my empty head!

  5. JIMBOB71 & LITTLE MISS JIMBOB

I agree regarding the respect for Neil

WGS last season with us , only 2 away wins from the new year and Awefull football does not shout it take me

Mon and JR Now that is another matter

Mon and JR Now that is another matter.

Sydneytim, I don’t think I’m qualified enough to assist MON…….!!

    ;-)

  7. Mm ETims saying that O’Neil/Keane is a done deal

    Take that in a heartbeat

Would prefer John Robertson , but beggars ……

  8. Etims reckon it’s almost certain to be O’Neill and Keane.

Pinch of salt of course but no….just no.

  9. GEEBEE1978 99% of ETims rumours are mince. lol

It’s all about opinions Mon for me until

A new coach is found and then Mon becomes director of football with a CEO looking after commercial side of the business

  10. I suppose at least O’Neill would get them back to basics with players in their correct positions, a settled team and line-up…..while Roy Keane wouldn’t allow for any dropping of standards or downing tools….

Or am I just trying to talk myself around?

  11. onenightinlisbon on

I would hope that if the MON and Keane rumours are true that this would be purely to deliver the ten?

  12. ONENIGHTINLISBON on 23RD NOVEMBER 2020 10:33 AM

Yes, I think so. Should also buy us time to do a thorough search too….

Crazy we have put ourselves in this position. Celtic don’t appear to do long term planning……

  16. BHOY FROM THE BOYNE on 23RD NOVEMBER 2020 10:41 AM

I’d love Rafa but he’s on £12m a year. What a head f*** that is for our money men :)

true but to be fair, most of our realistic targets will be “out of jobs”

  18. “stinking the place out”

    “Lawell’s Puppet” “Sooty” etc;

But some posters cannot see where ther has been personal abuse of Neil Lennon???

P.S. – Paul Kersey is just another of the multi-monikered KevJ Troll posts that gave been on here for oer 10 years. If true to form, and not affected by this post, they are usually accompanied by another new poster name who will whiningly complain about the treatment that Paul Kersey’s post received when he was only telling us unpalatable FACTS.

Any poster who praises Jeremy Corbyn AND Kojo is just at it.

  19. WGS defends NL, his team selection and tactics whenever on Celtic TV. He is a Celtic-minded man not likely to rock the boat. His strong point is he is massively enthusiastic and talks a great game. You can imagine him on the touchline coaching, cajoling the players throughout the 90s minutes.

But will infectious enthusiasm get a misfiring team back on track? He has been out of club mngmt for 10 years.

Leaving aside the genius of Jock Stein, our past managers have very little in their mngrl trophy cabinet before or after their spell with us. We rarely appoint genuine proven winners, mngrs who have won titles in other leagues. And when they leave us, they slide back into mediocrity or TV as an “expert pundit” on TV.

Liam Brady, Lou Macari, David Hay, Wim Jansen, John Barnes, Kenny Dalglish, Josef Venglos, Tony mowbray, Ronny Delia, MoN, WGS and Lenny – Did any of them achieve anything of note in mngmt after us?

Before coming to us, Venglos and Wim Jansen had solid mngmt portfolios and true tactical brains. That is about it.

Kenny had huge experience in the EPL before us but his time as director of football was an embarrassment. He’s done nothing since. His mngmt career, like Souness, Keegan etc, was based solely on their brilliance as players. They were “personality” appointments.

MoN was “hot” when he joined us. Finished when he left. Only BR looks like he will have a successful career after us.

We mostly rely on an emotional appt.

If we cannot attract a proven winner to Scotland, I’d love to see a good up and coming coach appointed from, for example, a mid-level Bundesliga team, someone who is dedicated to tactics, fitness, sports science, training, on and off field discipline etc.

We don’t need another ex-player, an Irishman, or someone who “gets” Celtic.

We need an excellent coach and manager, and they exist outside of the UK bubble.

German-style organisation, fitness, discipline, steel would be a nice change from managers who think we have to play the “Celtic way”.

Sorry for rambling on. Happy Monday to all.

  20. Roy on his own is a scary thought, but with MON holding the leash/being the good cop – just might work.

Keano for fire, MON for guile – the players might respond to that blend.

Also a good thing for Peter’s Jan window sales. Both have good networks down south to flog our wannaways.

And the mean green 10IAR marketing machine would be running at full pelt!

Instant reaction THEM or WGS + Gav ?

  21. BTW

I like WGS more than mosy Celtic fans but I cannot see how we can win a league from behind by choosing a more conservative style of play.

Yes, tightening up the defence is important but not at the expense of reducing our attacking prowess.

If Neil is going, I don’t much care what the name of the person replacing him isp I am more concerned at what he is going to do to change the current Celtic. This can only be done on the training field- the transfer window cannot save us.

What about that Daniel Stendel character from The Hearts Movie? :-)

  23. SFTB – ha, ha – not quite. Dreaming more of a Julian Nagelsmann of RB Leipzig type. 33 years old and going to the top.

  24. Gerardo Seoane, 41, the Young Boys manager, is Swiss and another one who is tipped for a big promotion into the Bundesliga. Two consecutive league titles and into the CL.

  25. GENE on 23RD NOVEMBER 2020 11:08 AM

This time next week Neil will still be our manager

    —————–

I suspect you are correct. At this moment in time there is no managerial vacancy. This is a very delicate situation for all of us.

I know certain people get remunerated very handsomely to make these calls, but I’m glad it’s not me.

    HH.

  26. If these players won’t respond to Lenny then what they gonna make of O’Neil and Keane – no thanks. We don’t need a stop gap, we need a modern day coach. I’d take, allowing him to have experience beside him, Shaun Maloney. Otherwise Marco Silva & Sanchis Flores both available and IMO attainable

  27. Does anyone really believe that we will win the league if Lennon keeps his job

    It’s actually becoming embarrassing now.

From Ferencvaros to the huns to Sparta Prague .

We are then 2 down on Saturday and he swaps one centre for another .

    He lost it months ago

  28. Must be no end of top flight coaches and managers chomping at the bit to come and work for Peter Lawwell.

  29. I’m sure Gordon Strachan is still the technical director of Dundee. He also has a media career.

Why would he come to Celtic, ?

AH…The above from The Chump Bitch who posted on here just a few weeks ago…” I will SUPPORT/BACK” The Manager, come what may” ?

Thanks to ROCK TREE BHOY for reminding us all of that Chumps post.

If Neil Lennon is a ” Puppet”, who just does what Peter Lawwell tells him to do….that would also mean that EVERY Celtic Player and member of Staff is also a Feckin ” Puppet”…to Neil Lennon as it is HIM that tells the others what to do…NO ?

That other Chump on here and SC that Idiot….” Big Packy”,….. who hasnt seen Celtic since the early 1970’s ( By his OWN ADMISSION)…made the first Post that I saw…” Lennon is Lawwells Puppet”, despite only living around 3 hours away from Glasgow etc…….YOU then jumped onto BP’s back…By Posting the very same about Neil Lennon….

I can then safely assume that YOU are Big Packys Feckin PUPPET !

Have you and all those other Chump Bitches NEVER heard of ” A Chain of Command” ?

in any Job, their are Bosses who tell those below them what to do etc……..whenever that has happened to you being told by a Boss what told what to do etc…DO You TELL YOUR Boss to get to Feck ?

I would guess that YOU havent…so YOU are also a Feckin Puppet then…Agreed ?

Go back to FF, Ya Chump Bitch Hun.

  31. a few people commented on why Duffy was brought on. It was to go 3-5-2; Griff came on for Moi at same time. A slightly different 3-5-2 as all 3 in the middle went forward 2 at a time and one stay a bit back. Hence all the shots from the edge of the area from all 3 but straight at the keeper. Very risky but if they could have shot properly, we could have snuck it despite being generally poor

    funny old game
