The players, the manager and the board

503

Celtic controlled the first half at Easter Road without really troubling Hibernian.  That control shattered when Nir Bitton and, more culpably, Scott Brown, combined to concede an unnecessary foul then penalty.  The subsequent lack of urgency to follow Scott Bain’s save and daydreaming at the second Hibs goal was typical Celtic season 2020-21.

You were not surprised at the outcome.  Before the game I wrote a piece on Newco’s accounts (it is important and I will pick it up during the week) but I knew when I was writing it there was a more than decent chance we would have to address this matter instead.

The players have first responsibility to resolve matters, then the manager, then the board.  Doubtless there have been several iterations of attempted fixes, but none have been effective. It is not too late to rescue our season but it will be soon.

ye tuff one…..Lenny is and will always be one of the great servants but we have some great players in the squad that need motivated and that aint happening. Should he go………my heart is breaking, but yes. if the season is going to be a fek up lets go in a blaze of glory not like headless chickens.

  2. We spend money on agent friendly punts who we have too write off 2 years later.

PL has huge form for this in the recent past — 6 attempts to buy a CF who are only now remembered for the comments in the accounts about money wasted on impairment charges.

  3. We have a major problem at the club. Our de facto head of football is an accountant. No surprise that this isn’t working. Brendan is smart and could see this happening. Just like Martin.

Any new manager coming in will have to deal with this problem. Working with lawwell. Good luck with that.

In other matters. Are sevco about to have an invincible season? This must be the greatest comeback since Lazarus. Gerrard has taken a team that were knocked out of Europe by the fourth best team in Luxembourg and now look where they are.

‘Big Pedro will go at the end of the season whatever happens.’

    ####

I’d be surprised if he leaves before the ongoing litigation is completed.

  5. If NL does not go we will end up third just a head of Hibs.

The squad are now taking it in turns to make a fool of him and us.

As things stand we would be better off with Rab C in charge.

We all want the same thing my friend. Having a go at folk and name calling only for the huns as far as I’m concerned, as is trolling….

Lenny needs to go now. Of course he does. But he probably won’t.

They can ride it out because they don’t have to face the fans, just switch off social media. Simples!

In the unlikely event he does leave I’d offer the gig to Shaun Maloney.

Also, I do wonder what will end up higher – the number of points The Rangers win the league by or the number of pens they get. Both well upwards of 20 I predict.

  8. The board never “interviewed” for one reason and one reason only … when Neil stepped in after Brendan bolted he was given assurances … deliver the available trophies and the job is yours

    That is a fact …

The job interview in the shower is pure excrement … it might have been PL confirming the job … like most Celtic favs that day (treble treble) we were all celebrating..

But let the “wash n go” posters batter in … imagine if you were Neil and stepped into February delivered league and cup … then got the sack ???

Do posters really think Neil is that silly he wouldn’t have insisted on being rewarded for his achievements ???

We had a wee spat last weekend and am pretty sure we will have more … but totally agree :-)

  10. onenightinlisbon on

I reckon the board will wait as long as they can to fire the manager or ask him to leave under mutual agreement. They will have no idea of who would be a suitable replacement but how many managers worth their salt would tick the pre-requisite “yes man”?

Having a brain fart. What ongoing litigation?

    GFTB

That sounds right and makes sense. Also only fair to Lenny. Question is – at what point are you no longer bomb proof? Never?

  13. Ernie Thanks for replying ive seen that stated a few times on here . but how do we know its true ? All footballers are mercenaries its part of the job imo , watching the Open goal interviews has opened my eyes to the realites of pro footballers , the truth is imo there are only two sides those who put money in and those who make money out of the pro game , fans are mugs who can be controlled with colours and tribal beads n trinkets :(

Stan Petrov worked his ticket out of the club. So doesn’t deserve to be included on your “list”.

You’ve forgotten that Celtic are currently being sued?

    Seriously?

Given the length of time this issue has been hanging over the Club I’d be surprised if PL left before it was resolved.

You are spot on re footballers. Marcus Rashford that rare exception to the rule of narcissistic primary donnas.

They also operate in a highly mobile labour market where it is relatively easy to leave the ‘scene of a crime’. That’s all reflected in the current non-performances of our players.

A delicate situation that requires highly sensitive, skilled man management. Which Lenny is temperamentally unsuited to.

He clearly thinks they’re a bunch of pr***s and he’s probably right. Sadly their wee fragile egos can’t take it and they’ve downed tools on him.

Not one manager or player should never not be questioned … will we always win everything domestically, definitely not… should we always want more … yip, football fans like football players, we are all a bit greedy :-)

Am enjoying Celtic just now, brilliant and awful, in equal measures

  20. only a thought and a small amount of paranoia, but you’d think the Board planned this to keep “the lucrative Old Firm thing”. I’s happened before now hasn’t it.

If we retain the status quo then nothing will change. Forget about newco and all their bile and angst and concentrate on all things Celtic.

Don’t think it will happen though.

Regards a new manager. Does anyone really think we can attract a good high calibre manager when he will not be given FULL CONTROL of all football matters, nae chance.

Funny you should mention Marcus Rashford … my 12yr old daughter thinks Marcus is amazing (she watches GMB before going to school) through this pandemic am pretty sure Marcus has inspired a lot of young kids … not your normal football “star”

  22. Im totally open minded about what’s best for Celtic, but I have still to hear a credible suggestion of a Manager to come in.

We have had Malkey Mckay, Martion Oneil ,Gordon Strachan, Rpy keane…all unemplored and haven’t coached a club team for years.

Mourhinio, Benitez, Potchinteno ..just fantasy thinking. We could add PEP to that list..

Is there a credible character ?

What good is wisdom when it brings no profit to the wise?

There’s a bit in one of Nolan’s Batmans when Bale says – we all know how much you love to say ‘I told you so’…

and Caine replies – On that day, Master Wayne, even I won’t want to. Probably.

I wonder when that day is – or has been?

  25. RPMCELTICFAN- nobody could have blamed Neil if he walked, when he was getting bombs in the post,24 hour police protection, and his family getting moved from their home at 3 in the morning following another threat.Nobody has had to put up with he has, while wearing our colours, it shouldn’t be forgotten, nor is it a reason to keep him on as manager.
