The players “who got us there” for Sunday

268

Neil Lennon left us a teaser after Sunday’s victory over Kilmarnock, informing us that the players who got us to the Scottish Cup Final would get their chance to represent us in the Final, not necessarily those who transformed our play in the last two games.

We can safely discount Forster, Simunovic, Arzani (yes, I’d forgotten too), Hayes, Bayo, Bolingoli and Shved, all of whom were part of this Scottish Cup campaign but are no longer at the club.  James Forrest is not fit and Leigh Griffiths is currently fourth choice striker, so unlikely to be considered unless/until we need a late goal.

That leaves five possibilities: Ryan Christie, Tom Rogic, Olivier Ntcham, Scott Bain and Scott Brown.

Christie has  unfinished business in the Scottish Cup after suffering multiple fractures to his face in the 2019 semi-final that kept him out of the final.  I expect we will see him instead of Jeremie Frimpong at right mid.

Conor Hazard has not put a glove wrong in his two outings and there is no reason to believe that would change on Sunday, but Neil may prefer Scott Bain, or, conversely, give Vasilis Barkas his Scottish Cup debut.  No idea how this will go.

I would be amazed if David Turnbull did not start.  In the space of a week he has made the central attacking mid position his own, Hampden specialist Tom Rogic is there if needed late in the game, although perhaps not for penalties.

Hampden is a big pitch and Ismaila Soro has the energy to cover it.  He suffered cramp against Lille but his two outings last week will fortify him.  Still, I expect the captain will get the nod.

  1. Is it an urban myth that Griffiths and Ajeti are unfit? This appears to be contradicted by either or both being on the bench in most recent games.

  2. Three “new Bhoys” have played the last 2 games because the manager was desperate. (imo)

They play from really well to absolutely outstanding and appear to be making a positive difference to the team.

(2 victories and 2 very good performances))

Just as the new Bhoys are getting the feel good factor and really looking forward to a major cup final, the manager brings them back to earth with that stupid, idiotic statement that he’s going to “play the players that got us there.”

We really need to get rid and the sooner the better.

  3. Maybe my education in physical training is a wee bit out of date but I find it very difficult to accept the timescales mentioned for players to get back to top fitness levels. I am also unconvinced that `match fitness` is other than psychological.

  4. Unless I missed it, Reporting Scotland did not see fit to mention that Morelos was to receive a two game ban as the Referee had `missed` the violent conduct.

  5. Congratulations to whatever department in the SFA. Gerrard was handed a new one. You dont get to piss all over SFA all of the time…..please settle for most of the time x

  7. Brentford’s Ivan Toney is the hottest marksman in the Championship right now with 15 goals from 18 appearances.

If the ref didn’t see the violence, why was Morelos booked”

I THINK the ref gave the yellow for barging.

  9. Meanwhile back in the world of Rangers FC as was, Liquidators BDO have issued their latest Creditors Report, dated 10 December 2020. Been doing this since October 2012, and I have lost count how many reports have been issued since then. Couple of interesting points there though. Firstly BDO are taking legal action against Administrators Duff & Phelps over the sale, or undersell, of Ibrox to Charlie Green, in a case to be heard in May 2021. BDO are looking for £28.9 mill, whereas Duff & Phelps only raised £5.5 mill. And elsewhere, and if I am reading this right, BDO are admitting that two separate unpaid bills to HMRC, (outwith EBTs) are due to be paid, one a £10.3 mill debt for unpaid NI and PAYE under the Craig Whyte daze, and two an unpaid debt of £3.1 million, due to “payment arrangements” to Rangers players, otherwise known as the ‘Small Tax Case’. Now, again if I am interpreting this correctly, this is referring to the unpaid tax bill from 2011 and the subject no less of Resolution 12, a bill still unpaid nine years on.

Now what was Stewart Robertson was referring to again?

Did one of the bloggers not prove that this £35m spend was a load of bollocks?

  19. SFA Grade 1 Ref Steven Mclean will be embarrassed, but not ashamed. He made a mistake, trained by his masters.

Ive made sure his suitability for international duty will not go amiss.

Was the only reason the SFA reacted so quickly due to a previous dossier sent including that of Scottish football players being sexually assaulted on the field of play and no furher action being taken by the Brothers in the SFA.

Ross County had good reason for their course of action.

Do Hugh Keevins and Rodgered Hannah have some explaining to do on the cash hun article purse they allegedly keep that’s apparently non tax deductible.
