The Poste’ always delivers

484

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone, the time has come.  Ange Postecoglou is officially Celtic manager.  It has been a long wait but consistent with Celtic’s typical managerial appointment times (Neil Lennon first got the job on 9 June 2010, despite already being in temp position).

The chapter of our history on Angelos Postecoglou now begins.  I’m only slightly annoyed they didn’t announce it at noon…..  Ange has delivered success beyond expectation wherever he goes.  That will be difficult to achieve at Celtic, where expectations are stratospheric, but hope in our hearts, and all that.

Strap in, it’s going to be a blast.  Best of luck, Ange.

Here’s hoping for a quick sale and time with the grandkids. I know I’m lucky to be within 5 miles of all mine and see them every week.

Your good lady will be in my prayers.

  3. The Match

(following is by Tom Brogan, taken from http://stateofthegame.co.uk/)

Celtic’s team cost £44,000 to assemble, while the cost of the Leeds side was £300,000, with striker Allan Clarke, then Britain’s most expensive player, costing £165,000.

Despite all the problems Leeds had with their players’ fitness the only first team regular missing was defender Norman Hunter.

The book ‘Rhapsody in Green – Great Celtic Moments’ by Tom Campbell and Pat Woods, quotes Stein discussing the anticipated clash between Jimmy Johnstone and Leeds left-back Terry Cooper with a friend. Stein said, “They say this Cooper is a great attacking full back, but he’s never had this tricky wee dwarf running at him for 90 minutes.”

Leeds had not lost a goal in Europe all season. This record was to fall inside 40 seconds. A high ball bouncing through the middle was misjudged by Madeley and fell to George Connelly who hit a shot that deflected off a Leeds defender and crept in at Gary Sprake’s left hand post.

Curiously this was the first away goal Celtic had scored in Europe throughout the campaign.

50 seconds into the second half Jimmy Johnstone swung over a cross and George Connelly again fired a low shot past Sprake. The goal would not stand, with the referee awarding a free kick outside the box. The decision was presumably for offside against Johnstone, though the crowd were baffled, as Terry Cooper appeared to play him onside.

With respect, again you have your facts wrong, I am under the blog rules not allowed to call you a total tosser, so I will just think it, in my mind you are a total tosser, only in my mind of course, now go away and annoy someone else, maybes you could spend your time getting your facts correct.

  5. At the end of the day it’s just fitba’!

Lots of things are far more important.

    Good night.

  6. That was a good read @ 4:38 TimGreen posted from The Atlantic.

I’m excited about what may be. Player recruitment is crucial and it seems like he is happy to promote youth – hopefully we have some ready to make the leap.

Any news on Karamoko Dembele? There was talk of him wanting to leave earlier in the season, hopefully he’ll hang around now.

  7. So AP philosophy is to build from the back. Take risks to break the press.

My prediction. We will lose a goal through this playing way. And there will be pitchforks and flaming torches on here when that happens.

I’m happy to take risks. Rewards will follow.

  8. Thanks to the folks who genuinely care, it really means a lot.

After all we should all want the same outcome at the end of the day

Some folks make me not want to post any more, posters like Ernie are food for me, I love the banter with posters like him, but when the hate and the bile is the undercurrent, ach you know what I mean.

    ………………………………………………..

As for the football, I honestly don’t have bad feeling about yer man, sadly he seems to be doomed before he is in the door, but hopefully he does the biz, if not he can GTF :)

  9. Go tell the Spartim on

    Supersutton

Much like Pep, if AP takes ownership that we’ll lose goals that way and he still has faith in the players to keep trying I think we’ll be on board although I remember watching La Liga and think it was Villarreal playing trying to play out the back and the commentator said it was admirable they tried it but you need to be good at it for it to work – here’s hoping we’re good at it

  10. The personal development of each player – both on and off the pitch – got me excited.

We can’t buy the finished article, so we need to be honing what talent we have, selling them/most on at a profit hopefully.

  11. I can handle it BTW, please trust me on that :)

As yet there is not a single poster who intimidates me, I’m sure they are out there, but still waiting :)

  12. “£100 if you tell me what the game was when this photo of Celt fans was taken.”

Shouldn`t be too difficult. How many games did Neil Kinniock,John Clarke and Vladimir Putin attend together?

    Goodnight all.

  13. Go Tell The Spartim.

    Correct, sir.

I expect the starting level of our players is in advance of the Brisbane players. So hopefully not too long for them to become accomplished.

    All down to the training.

Rogers drilled players mentally and physically to achieve his expectations. Sounds like Ange will too.

🙋‍♂️ First chance to comment today and it is clear to me that Ange Postecoglou absolutely gets us, and judging from his comments today, dare I be the first to say it, may turn out to be our very own ‘Special One’, but in a good way! 👍🍀😊

It is fantastic to see so many good supporters on here today who are only interested in getting right behind our new Manager and our beloved Club! 😊. I don’t think he will suffer fools or anyone who will not give of their best, but I also think he will get the best out of our players and staff, so I am chilled as to whoever they may be, whether already at the Club or soon to join us. I imagine young players like O’Connel must be salivating at the new ambitious prospects under Ange Postecoglou! 😊 👍

It is also clear to me that the ongoing FUD SMSM Operation to Divide and Conquer the Celtic Support is already underway and has been ramped up from today… As long as we recognise this for what it is, and call it out, then I think this is a good thing… It shows that they FEAR OUR POTENTIAL and will attempt to undermine us at every opportunity.

All we need to do is stick TOGETHER and SUPPORT everyone at the Club; after all we ARE Celtic Supporters, Faithful through and through! 😊 🍀❤️

  18. Any Celtic player that does not take the knee at the Euros will never have my respect. If they read that Southgate article and are unmoved then I’m disgusted. Every day my love of this club is diluted. I will find myself supporting England against Scotland, and I my 51 years that would have seemed unimaginable. Again the SFA… words can’t describe my contempt!

  22. Always a gamble when you appoint a manager but 25 years of experience, good and bad, should help him. Dont like defeatist attitudes, yes we have a bit to do but it’s very possible to turn stuff around quickly. Sell want always, add new coach, tactics and make the most of the players who remain, academy kids to supplement the team. Add 6 key signings at weakest area of team.

Oor Ange it is then. I think he’ll be a significant improvement on what we have had.

    This from “The Athletic”:

    —–

Grateful for the Athletic bit, esp the contributions of Thomas Broich. As an A-League watcher Brocih was a delight to watch; a real player with a brilliant touch and smart fitba mind. Kinda like a Lubo-style player.

So Ange HAS an eye for a player too! Broichy’s endorsement of Ange speaks volumes for me.

Only thing I’m surprised of in the comment stream is no-one using that ancient old Morecambe and Wise joke:

    ‘What’s a Greek Urn?’

TET: Saddened to read of your terrible news. KTF.

  24. Welcome to Celtic, Angelos “Ange” Postecoglou, get stuck into Der Hun. Slippy G’s there for the taking, if he doesn’t run out on Sevco first ;-)

The SFA and SRU have joined in unison to condone racism. They wont sanction an international gesture against racism and instead have sided with racist neo Nazi filth in Eastern Europe.

The Scottish hideaway “a but” racist scum in the half way house are cowardly racist filth at heart.

Hopefully England will crush the rabid racist Scots in the SFA and SRU and any other cowardly racist filth in their support.

God bless the England players etc.
