The precious commodity

391

I’m pretty sure Players’ Player of the Year rules oblige nominees to come from more than one club, allowing players the opportunity to vote for at least one opponent, instead of a team-mate. That being the case, we will probably see a token Aberdeen player on the list alongside the Celtic nominees.

This award, voted by the professionals, has been dominated by Celtic players for a lot longer than the league title itself. Di Canio, McNamara, Larsson (twice), Viduka, Sutton, Hartson, Maloney, Namakura, McGeady, Brown, Izaguirre, Mulgrew, Commons, Johansen and Griffiths make an incredible 16 Celtic winners in the last 20 years.

The current holder missed the chance of defending his title after an early season injury kept him out of the team, then the irrepressible form of Moussa Dembele made Leigh’s chances of a sustained run unlikely.

Moussa, alongside Kieran Tierney, are likely to be nominated for both Player and Young Player of the Year. Stuart Armstrong’s late season form may see him nominated, while Tom Rogic’s early season form deserves a shout, but all electorates have notoriously short memories, so Stuart stands a better chance than Tom.

Scott Sinclair has been the transformational element in Scottish football this season. His speed of thought and control are exceptional. He was the player who Celtic battered defences into submission early in the season as Celtic picked up from some nervy European qualification performances, and transformed into a well-oiled machine.

Scott’s performances in his debut season in Scottish football reminds me of a former PotY winner’s debut season. Both arrived as support forwards in their mid 20s. They share the same speed of thought. This instant the ball arrives(d) in their vicinity, the next phase is already underway.

I remember commenting during the season that stopped the 10 that Henrik Larsson was “precious” to Celtic. It was clear he was having a huge impact on the team, but Jackie McNamara and Craig Burley outshone him for many as they picked up the Players’ and Writers’ trophies respectively that season. Henrik’s true talent was still unfolding.

Scott Sinclair’s impact this season has been no less precious. For me he is the stand out Player of the Year.  Oh, and the nomination from Aberdeen, I suppose it has to be Ryan Christie, who steadied a stuttering Dons team and helped secure what will surely be second place.

“Delighted for Ronny that he has found his level.”

That’s hardly a virtual quote from anything Ronny said about Valerenga. It was much more judgemental and mean than even a self-critical Ronny would apply to himself.

in Ronny’s 2 years he only messed up the 2nd. In both years we got to Europa League which was just about our level- in the first of those we got to last 32 of Europa losing narrowly to Inter, and in that season we were cheated of a treble. He got the benefit of the Legia fiasco in that first year but the 2nd Europa campaign was a disaster and losing both cups meant he was a goner.

I predict he will do well at valerenga and will get another chance of a decent job outwith Norway- you have stated he was a diddy, therefore he won’t get past his current level.

    P.S. The Euro co-efficients for 2015/16 were Scotland – 18.925- ranked 23rd & Norway 18.325 ranked 25th

    Absolutely right.

I was at Ibrox when Davie ( hun ) Provan had his leg broken after a clash with Bertie Auld .

Had a chat with Bertie about Provan who was ” disliked ” by all the Tims I knew.

    Davie`s a lovely guy , said Bertie.

About the leg break…complete accident , said Bertie.

I believe Bertie ,but unquestionably we need some enforcers in our squad.

I feel that the next league games will be used as experimental by Brendan and that the likes of Tom Rogic will get limited game time to ensure they stay uninjured for the CL.

Next season we may see a domestic squad and a European squad. Particularly if our ball players continue to be assaulted with impunity.

We will see what guys like Liam Henderson, Jack Aitchison, Callum McGregor, and a few others have to offer?

C McG who I have not been a fan of before is proving me wrong.

Callum is the most versatile player in our squad and could play any outfield position. The type of player every great team needs.

  10. Ronny stated on arrival that he didn’t see any merit in loan signings, waste of energy developing other clubs players or words to that effect.

The club/board then proceeded to sign 4-5 players on loan and as a result Ronny lost a lot of credibility . It was disrespectful and destructive of our board , the players no doubt would’ve seen this too and lost respect for him.

It made his job so much more difficult.

I wish the guy every success.

  14. “Euro coefficients.

Much more reliable than subjective opinion or forceful assertion without any back up.

    “Eliminated by European nobodies.”

That would be Legia, Maribor and Inter Milan then.

    “Unbelievable substitutions.”

The most regular CQN cry against Gordon Strachan, Neil Lennon and even Brendan (though much less regularly)

All that is “unbelievable” about these “bizarre” substitutions is the lack of empathy shown by the judgementalists who cannot believe why a player they like has been taken off or why a player they don’t like remains on (or unchosen from the bench).

    Remember picking Dembele over Griffiths proved Brendan was guilty of bizarre selection too, as he was with De Vries over Gordon, as he was for persevering with Forrest, Brown and Armstrong after last year’s supposedly poor show from all three. Even the blessed Martin got it in the neck for putting Lennon and Lambert in the same team and for picking keepers like Douglas, Hedman and Kharine etc;

There is, in my view, an over-valuation of Liam Henderson and Ryan Christie on CQN generally and an under appreciation of Calum McGregor and James Forrest (still). The only way we will see whether these opinions are right or wrong will be to see how the players careers develop. But we’ll be calling sub choices and team selections bizzare for ever and a day. Ronny did not get that criticism uniquely.

“I wasn’t even close to doing that,” said Deila. “I WAS the boss at Celtic. That is when you do have to make decisions. I wasn’t afraid of making decisions. That is the only way I feel you can improve as a coach and a person as well. You need to make mistakes. You need to make decisions, you have to take risks. And I have always done that in my career. If you are in a comfort zone you always go to the next level. At Celtic I found that unbelievably hard, but also very interesting.

“But Norwegian footballers are more … well for one, they are not millionaires,” he added. “That means they don’t get all that attention they get in Scotland. There are less foreign players as well, so it is maybe a more united group. If you had only Scottish players in your team then I think you would get the same thing. Also the culture in Norwegian society is more liberal. It is more open. Here, everybody will come into my office and talk to me. Here you play 38 games, if you are lucky enough to get to the cup final. There it was 60 a year. It is a very tough life. Being here is a holiday compared to Celtic.”

    ===========================================================================

    Or , to summarise :

” The job was too big for me and I have now returned to my comfort zone “.

There is an ongoing corporate war of annihilation either directly or via abuse on the non tax paying peasantry of the world.A sort of peasant genocide forcing them into survival mode.

The remaining tax paying peasantry (you and me) are having our tax built infrastructure, education, health and social security systematically dismantled and robbed by the same corporate giants.

The ideological trick learned in WW2 from the corporate/financial conglomerates is that to maintain this trick is to have war and to fool the tax paying peasants that their survival depends on it. Hence racism and bigotry are encouraged.

I see both sides of it on CQN every day

  22. The contribution of recent immigrants (i.e. those who arrived after 1999) to the UK fiscal system, however, has been consistently positive and remarkably strong. Between 2001 and 2011 recent EEA immigrants contributed to the fiscal system 34% more than they took out, with a net fiscal contribution of about 22.1 billion GBP. In contrast, over the same period, natives’ fiscal payments amounted to 89% of the amount of transfers they received, or an overall negative fiscal contribution of 624.1 billion GBP. At the same time recent immigrants from non-EEA countries made a net fiscal contribution of 2.9 billion GBP, thus paying in the system about 2% more than they took out. The net fiscal balance of overall immigration to the UK between 2001 and 2011 amounts therefore to a positive net contribution of about 25 billion GBP, over a period over which the UK has run an overall budget deficit.

Our analysis thus suggests that – rather than being a drain on the UK’s fiscal system – immigrants arriving since the early 2000s have made substantial net contributions to its public finances, a reality that contrasts starkly with the view often maintained in public debate. This conclusion is further supported by our evidence on the degree to which immigrants receive tax credits and benefits compared to natives.

Cheers for your post mate Hail, Hail.

    Morning from a darkish Glasgow.

Today is yet another possible important day for me, as I have a Medical Assessment in Glasgow late this afternoon.

This is with a Doctor who has the remit to send back his report to the Criminal Injury Board ( CICA), which in turn will determine ANY possible compensation hopefully in the very near future ?

I was the victim of a serious assault some time ago, when without having the chance to defend myself, and caught completely unawares.

For the moment I will call this Doctor….a Doctor, but if he wrongly denies me compensation then of course I will refer to him as a feckin QUACK in the immediate future ?

If all goes well (?), it won’t be long term life changing money, but it would be a great help….hell I might just get drunk one night, and find the confidence to successfully chat up a wummin ?

    ( Sorry, that’s really stretching matters) ?

Anyways, i’ve waited a long time for this Medical so it will be a relief to get it over with.

After the medical, it’s on to Celtic Park ( using THAI TIM’s Seat…..I love that BHOY…think I’ll marry him…….. ONLY .JOKING !)). and joining in with the Title Party by singing good old Celtic songs….and some relatively new one’s !

I would love to have helped with “The Walk for Jay Collection” prior to tonight’s game, but I don’t think my medical conditions will allow it.

    So sorry Jay.

Onwards and Upwards Glasgow Celtic…..lets break more records starting tonight !

    Hail, Hail.

Perhaps, I will be in a position to make a wee donation in the near future ?

  28. Good morning from a grey, breezy but dry East Kilbride. And tonight, my friends, we again get to see The Champi6ns playt!
