The rare advantage of playing in a weak league

130

Dundee United sit third in the league, having overtaken Aberdeen with a win at St Mirren five weeks ago, but that victory was their only respite among five defeats in six games.  They assisted Hearts’ climb up the table, resolved Newco’s away win blues and allowed neighbours Dundee a win which was badly needed.

Their schedule has them play four of the other top five teams in consecutive matches, starting with the champions at Celtic Park tomorrow.  United will work hard to contain Celtic, but the games which follow against Motherwell, Hibernian and Aberdeen will go a long way to determine if they qualify for Europe next season.

Brendan Rodgers will only every talk about the next game, taking your eye off the ball can be fatal in football, but with a Champions League tie in Munich three days later, the manager will surely rest some limbs tomorrow.

We play in a weak league which has little to offer apart from the ability to rest players at home against teams in poor form.  Ralston, Scales, Schlupp, McCowan, Yang and Jota should all start tomorrow.

  3. So sorry to read of the passing of Patrick Barclay.

A genuinely very very good football writer who transcended eras of sports journalism. He always crafted something worth reading.

I once bumped into him in a filling station near Yarm. We had both been to a fantastic FA cup replay between Bruce Riochs Boro and Colin Harvey’s Everton. Extra time and another replay was the outcome I think. We had a really good exchange about Celtics relatively recent league win on the last day at Love St. I think he supported Dundee. Genuinely supported them.

And that is why our European progress is soooooooo vital.

European football refreshes the parts that domestic football cannot. It should be savoured and never put in jeopardy

  7. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    No surprise about Bernardo injury.

A victim of knee high thuggery.

And not a whisper at the time or after

  8. !!Bada Bing!! on @2:10pm.

I heard he will only get 6 months money if he gets bagged

    ……

If the Huns get rid of their manager I see wee free cheap and sleekit Naisy and big sleekit elbows McCulloch in to the Huns to quickly turn the Huns into a mob of dangerous diving snakes.

Something that Rodgers hizny been tested on yet.

    Hmmmmm.

Look what Naisy did with the current Hearts team earlier last year, brought them to Parkhead, parked the bus, played on the break away, winning 0-2 and Celtic hardly didn’t get a shot on target then we were deservedly booed off at half time and full time.

And sleekit Naisy brought through a couple of decent young players, using them sensibly by not asking them to run 60-70 yards every 30 seconds then scratching his head wondering as to why they are all getting injured….when the ball can be blootered those distances instead, and wee sleekit Naisy dizny teach his players that a high ball over the top is stuff from the occult, etc.

Ah mean, you don’t spend @10 million of Celtic fans money on a big tall giant, big big high tall striker and expect him to run around dribbling like Jinky just so that he actually gets to touch the ball?

That is pish management. Only a troll would be so honest.

And then if Idah looks out of sync…the fans will call Idah a flop….never Rodgers fault for being an arse….and getting away with it in the One horse league midden…and Rodgers clapping like a Seal as he tells Idah to stand against the post watch this new Celtic concept – wingers who canny cross a single ball per game….then they get substituted….wait for it…by another 2 new wingers…who also canny cross a ball…then the fans blame the wingers…never Rodgers. Lol

That is why big tall handsome Irish Idah looks like a £10 million Brendan clumsy misfit in the precious Rodgers feart fae the big teams Tippy Tappy borefest, only good for the One horse league, etc, etc,…yadda, yadda,…etc, yadda, etc, etc, Tippy Tappy, Tippy Tappy, Tippy Tappy, Tippy Tappy, Tippy Tappy, Tippy Tappy, Tippy Tappy, Tippy Tappy, etc.

And then Rodgers gets the players awe excited for the second half when he tells Callum to impart the message that we’re going from Tippy Tappy…..to…..Tappy Tippy….then the players start looking at Callum with yon Homer Simpson walking backwards into the garden hedge look…

Rodgers is just another richer than rich chancer at a club full of chancers and grifters and Sir Rod the Tory Lover and Royal family licker condoned and accepted by the permanently gaga back seat of every bus sheeple.

    Blame the trolls.

I liked the story from B78’s pal throwing some coppers at some hun supporters.

  14. TOM MCGLAUGHLIN , if you are reading, would the game be shown in Kitty’s tomorrow, will be in Edinburgh tomorrow.

  15. MOR got the last 13 minutes for Brighton, and had 2 touches. As I have said before I have no idea what position e is playing.Just runs about, doing a lot of pointing.

    Unrecognisable.

  16. I wish to add my sincere sadness at hearing about the death of Patrick Bartley who was certainly one of the best sports journalists that we have had.

So few of them left. So many churnalists we have to endure now.

  17. Well after Wednesday,is Brendan still going to push the” Maeda is not a striker” line?.IMHO,he wasted 70 mins of the game having Maeda stuck out on the wing, and Jota on the bench.I kept saying we had one shot at it,and he blew it.The difference when the switch came was so noticeable.Great manager, but sometimes,I dont know what’s in his head.

More importantly at present, the mighty USA have only gone and licked fascist Russia’s arse. The lily livered cowardly scum across the pond are no longer friends. Rise up against the fascist Russia/USA scum. Let’s make a stand against the Nazi filth before it’s too late. Stop buying Coca-Cola & McDonald’s for starters. That’ll show the fascist scum we mean business!

*just caught up with this, I travel a bit up and down to the states although I have canceled a vacation in the spring due to the tariff situation, I really like yanks and they like us, before my travels there I was convinced that the most popular diaspora was the Irish which suited me, too many Bing Crosby and John Ford aka Seán Aloysius Ó Fearna, movies in my childhood, incidentally his father was born in Spiddal in Connemara and his mum was born in the Aran Islands, both close to my heart as my paternal granny was also born in Connemara.

But in travelling down the eastern seaboard through the likes of New York State, Pennsylvania, the Virginias, and Carolinas I was amazed at the amount of locals I met who would ask me if I was “Scattish” and when I obviously replied aye they were ecstatic as that’s where their family hail hailed from albeit after 1746, meanwhile the potato genocide would occur almost 100 years later hence the migration to the US or other locations.

Now I am going to be perfectly honest here as I have also been in the west coast and NEVER met a septic tank that I didnae like but IMHO they are very cloistered as far as the rest of the world is concerned, as for the accusation of them all being nazis and fascists, not so, but they are easily led which has happened once again, but there are lots out there willingly to fight against that as he didnae win a mandate to do what he is doing as his lead in both houses isnae that big and lets NOT forget he only ran to say out of jail, and actually to do that he NOT only sold out the presidency but the country.

Can they be saved from extremism, don’t honestly know

  19. In Brendan’s presser, I though he was pretty tepid about Yang’s long term prospects.

In Clement’s presser, the hacks were comparably cool about Phil’s long term prospects.
