Dundee United sit third in the league, having overtaken Aberdeen with a win at St Mirren five weeks ago, but that victory was their only respite among five defeats in six games. They assisted Hearts’ climb up the table, resolved Newco’s away win blues and allowed neighbours Dundee a win which was badly needed.
Their schedule has them play four of the other top five teams in consecutive matches, starting with the champions at Celtic Park tomorrow. United will work hard to contain Celtic, but the games which follow against Motherwell, Hibernian and Aberdeen will go a long way to determine if they qualify for Europe next season.
Brendan Rodgers will only every talk about the next game, taking your eye off the ball can be fatal in football, but with a Champions League tie in Munich three days later, the manager will surely rest some limbs tomorrow.
We play in a weak league which has little to offer apart from the ability to rest players at home against teams in poor form. Ralston, Scales, Schlupp, McCowan, Yang and Jota should all start tomorrow.

Agree re the presser and Yang.
Surprised as he had been bigging him up a bit the past few weeks.
I am sure there is a reason.
I meant a good reason. BTW.
Also interesting BURNLEY that in the edits of both the pressers, they were few questions about the upcoming games v Dundee Utd and the Huns v the Diets respectively.
Instead, it was all about Bayern last week and Bayern next and – for the baldy boss – his meetings with Pat Stewart and the fan fury.
No matter the media beat, they’ve all turned into Hollywood style drama, gossip and titillation merchants.
I trust we are not taking the United game too lightly. HH
When Patrick Barclay spoke, you listened….a brilliant commenter on football, sad RIP
Looking forward to another brilliant day at Celtic Park
Not long now Bada,a full squad used please Brendan

Three day weekend for this bhoy. Presidents Day on Monday.

Good Morning Fholk – Grand Day To Be A Tim.
Should be a great game today – will be interesting to see the line-up, agreed, we should see the squad utilised today.

TURKEYBHOY @ 10:26 PM,
We’ve had some quite bizarre posts from you recently, no change there I know, but what’s it all about… Turkey!?
You were trying to suggest Brendan Rodgers was throwing the Bayern game, after the match the other night.
According to you, our manager was prepared to lose the match, to play games with the Board – guess taking your lead from this…
…“Dane has not played a single minute of top flight football in his career and made his only Celtic start (against Midtjylland) in July 2021. Brendan has shown no inclination of developing the player, but threw him into a cauldron last night. Managers do like to play games; you and I are not supposed to notice.” – P67.
Dane played because we were short of options at CH, since he came back from injury, Murray has signed a new contract and been fast tracked through the development pathway.
The manager made it clear after the Aston Villa game that he played Dane because Scales was fading and Murray had, had regular game time.
Since then we have seen Dane play over 90 mins of a Cup tie, the bhoy looked good, we scored five and kept a clean sheet.
To do down, an excellent young Celtic prospect in order to score anti-Brendan points after a loss was poor, very poor.
It’s not there was a grain of truth in it anyway, we were not in the market for a Centre Half this January.
Your nonsense after the BM match, suggesting that Brendan Rodgers played Adam through the middle to have a dig at the Board was nonsensical.
Here was my take before the match…
CHAIRBHOY @ 12TH FEBRUARY – 12:59 PM…
…”Today’s conundrum, do we start with Adam up front and Jota ona’ bench – or do we start Jota and go with Diazen through the middle from the off?
Guess under the circumstances a good problem to have.
For me, with Jota not fully match fit and having the ability to be a great impact player, I’d be tempted to go with Idah’s physicality and hold up play, with Diazen defending from left wing.
Sixty minutes we can see Jota coming on and Meada through the middle, see how the Bavarians deal with that.”
That was a far from an outlandish tactic; a marginally off-side goal, and disallowed penalty, leaving a world class Bayern striker unmarked at the back post at a corner.
The factors that played into our narrow loss were there for all to see.
If you think that having Greg Taylor and Jota defending against Bayern Munich down our left flank from the start would have changed the result and ensured we beat Bayern you are very wrong minded.
The fact is, that Meada is our best pressing player and we needed his tracking back, tackling and defensive game on the left.
However your nonsense that Brendan Rodgers is pushing the narrative that Meada is not a striker is a totally false claim – it is the opposite of what Brendan Rodgers has stated.
Several times since Kyogo left, BR has taken the opportunity to be gushing over Meada’s abilities, including his abilities as a striker…
08/02/’25 – Rodgers said: “If you’ve done any depth of analysis of this player [Daizen Maeda] before he arrived at Yokohama, you can see he’s a striker, you see he’s a goalscorer, wherever he plays along the front line.
“He’s done that in Japan, he was playing more central and you see his numbers. But not only that, if you watch all the goals he scored there, he’s mobile, can make runs, his movement’s good, he can finish. And he’s proven that.
“He’s a wonderful reference for our team, the value that we put in hard work, pressing, mentality and he’s getting goals regularly now.
“I know wherever he plays he’s got the skill set and the attributes to give me what the team needs.”
So clearly you are peddling a false narrative.
The Rodgers Loathers are really clutching at straws these days.
You, Ordinary Joe and the like, making up total garbage to have a go at our most successful manager in a generation.
What we have achieved this season, the League Cup, a good margin of points and goal difference in the League, which might be over before the split, we are in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup – we made the play-offs of the UC League where we play against the top of European talent.
Every chance of a historic season, led in admirably by our manager Brendan Rodgers.
Hail Hail
There are 50,000+ boring as fk season ticket holders who are in effect zombies since the Jungle ended and Herr Thatchers “All Seating” scam was rolled out 30 yawning years ago.
Nae Jungle = Nae baws…and all of your enemies know it.
MON made Celtic feel like a serious club 2 years after Wim Jansen was treated by Fergus as though he`d just been caught in some hotel room with one of the boards wife`s. Which of course he wasn’t.
But serious clubs don`t sell their number one choice striker half way through a season with zero attempt to replace Kyogo. The rest of the players must think they are at the football version of “Animal Farm” scared to sleep a wink in case they are next to be driven to some not too glamorous Airport.
It should be Bayern being terrified to come to Parkhead and face Celtic, not the other way around.
Harry Kane is nearly done and over the hill, yet Rodgers couldny get one of his hugely expensive players to keep HK out of the game?
Yet the supposedly inferior Neil Lennon could get the hugely inexpensive Efe Ambrose to mark out of the game, the at the peak of his prime, Lionel Messi, who managed to escape Efe for 2 seconds to score Barcelona`s Legendary Celtic loving fantastic sides consolation goal in a memorable 2-1 victory for “Lennon`s Lion`s” on a Magical Celtic night.
We are underdogs in a street fight. Street fighters fear no one, no matter the size of their opponents.
The street fighting spirit is now nowhere to be seen at Parkhead since Rangers died in 2012.
If Celtic fans had not become `nats` since 2007 and with the shapeshifting connotations of being natsified, good guys became pro Cancel Culture, Witch Finder Generals, snitching on their neighbors, because the neighbors dog pissed on the new natsified Tims lawn, and Tims had started sucking up the raw sewage that poured down the steps of Holyrude. Yuk!
We`re Mad Max generations away from the last time Celtic were feared in the CL, and in those days there was this thing called “Timdom” which kept the flame of hope alive. No Jungle. No Timdom. The Green Brgade at the corner flag, tried to set the wheels in motion to get rid of of some of Thatchers not desired seats at the Jock Stein library end. Only for the Green Brigade to be reminded that they are themselves alone.
If Rodgers canny get over himself and admit that his misuse of Maeda has to end now, and partner Idah and Maeda as our front 2 partnership from NOW forward, 2 strikers, the real Celtic Way, then Rodgers dizny have the balls to drag Celtic onto the big stage, and the players all know it! its looking out of their eyes ffs!
Another kid gloves approach from Rodgers in Germany, and Bayern might just have delayed their 9-0 rout of the fake Tims under Rodgers cowardice, for just 6 days.
PS, dont be telling Big Jimmy as he might be clever enough to put some cash on this probability!
Cheerio for now! lol
Chairbhoy,
Great post. I thought it was wild too suggest BR may have been making a statement, and whilst i would probably started with Maeda through the middle we would have definitely been weaker defensively down the left.
To say that because we scored 1 with Maeda through the middle we would have scored more, and Bayern no more, if we had played their favoured line up is just wishful thinking.

Something that Rodgers hizny been tested on yet.”

MAJESTIC HARTSON @ 7:07 AM,
Yes, totally agree…
There was definitely a case for Meada through the middle and to give Jota a start.
However, like you say, the idea that BR&CO didn’t do that was to make a statement to the Board seems nonsensical.
Likewise the “fact” that Brendan would not admit that Meada was a quality striking option through the middle.
Which was just plain wrong.
If Schlupp and Jota play today and get some more miles into their legs, then maybe we go with those two and Meada through the middle on Tuesday, we’ll see.
Of course that means we will probably end the game with Yang on the wing and Adam through the middle.
The penalties will be interesting;)
Hail Hail
On the lead – “The rare advantage of playing in a weak league”.
For me the main advantage is that we get a chance to play in the UCL most seasons, we are now gearing up to give ourselves a good chance to be competitive there.
If we fail, and now and again we possibly will, the Europa looks assured – looking at the teams and performances in that competition, we could most certainly be very competitive if not quite in the contender bracket.
The squad rotation, the intensity of performance, demanded while besting Dundee, or playing Raith, is part of the process to ensure the team’s intensity never falls or weavers and we are ready to play high level European games when they come around.
Hail Hail
It’s MAeda not MEada…

Great post and delivered accordingly.
Brendan has come back to mend fences but the resistance of some, who should be wanting the best for Celtic, leaves me puzzled.

TEUCHTER ÁR LÁ @ 9:35 AM,
Cheers…
Yes, we can see why many were reticent when Brendan Rodgers came back, however he’s obviously brought quite a few around and they can see what he’s about now.
Some still have him in a sort of purgatory and again, that can, to a certain extent, be understood.
Those who want him to fail, to the point of being happy to see Celtic fail, or those who put forward fallacious “facts”, that go way beyond reason or any confirmation bias is certainly puzzling.
Hail Hail
I was one of those who wasn’t too happy when Brendan Rogers returned. But I want Celtic to be the best they can be and our manager seems to have the same at heart and is doing his best to achieve that. So, that’s fine by me.

I’ve just watched the hilights from the match and must say the disallowed goal was very harsh how can Idah be in the keepers eyeline after he had dived to attempt to save the shot.
So the VAR team thought it was pen but the referee didn’t it is a pen all day no debate.
We were in the game and it’s only half time get the first goal on Tuesday and we can make a game of it again and you just never know.
We are competing at this level and if we show some ambition we can continue to organically grow and get better.

If the linesman hadn’t flagged for offside we might have got the decision even if VAR got involved.
We all know that if the penalty shout was at the other end it would have been given.

Not buying the ‘weak league patter’ this will be one of the more glamorous difficult home games. There will be no complacency in Parkhead.from the pro’s.
Only a fool would try to guess the team today, so here goes
Schmeichel
Ralston
CCV
Trusty
Schlupp
McCowan
MacGregor
Hatate
Kuhn
Idah
Jota
This will make the bench very strong for the inevitable changes on the 60 minute mark.Adam Idah has the chance to continue his goal a game ratio, and Jota could bring a freshness wide on the left and could relieve Maeda. The excellent Greg Taylor might get a well earned rest, saved for Tuesday. On the other flank Kuhn will joust for the starting jersey with Yang who still threatens as recently as, Wednesday to be a star of the east end.
Jim Goodwin has done an amazing job at Tannadice and his side will give a good account for the Arabs of Dundee.
Great day for a walk up the Celtic Way.
There’s Fallon Young and Gemmell ….where’s my lyrics
AN TEARMANN @ 10:13 AM,
Of all his inapt traits, possibly the least offensive, yet most glaring is his total lack of knowledge of Celtic Football Teams history…
The cheap Efe Ambrose – The Africa Cup of Nations Winner – 2013, the same season…
“He was called up to Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. In the Africa Cup of Nations, Ambrose played five out of six games for Nigeria, playing in the right-back position, including the final which he started. After the tournament, Ambrose was named in the 2013 African Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament”
Non too shabby…
