The rare advantage of playing in a weak league

130

Dundee United sit third in the league, having overtaken Aberdeen with a win at St Mirren five weeks ago, but that victory was their only respite among five defeats in six games.  They assisted Hearts’ climb up the table, resolved Newco’s away win blues and allowed neighbours Dundee a win which was badly needed.

Their schedule has them play four of the other top five teams in consecutive matches, starting with the champions at Celtic Park tomorrow.  United will work hard to contain Celtic, but the games which follow against Motherwell, Hibernian and Aberdeen will go a long way to determine if they qualify for Europe next season.

Brendan Rodgers will only every talk about the next game, taking your eye off the ball can be fatal in football, but with a Champions League tie in Munich three days later, the manager will surely rest some limbs tomorrow.

We play in a weak league which has little to offer apart from the ability to rest players at home against teams in poor form.  Ralston, Scales, Schlupp, McCowan, Yang and Jota should all start tomorrow.

  6. I was sitting here yesterday pondering on the ASCOM David Low interview.

The suggestion of a generational share issue, because there is pent up demand for it amongst younger (by that i mean sub 50 years old) supporters, and they could afford the sentimental investment, Amongst our generation many of us took up the original Fergus share 1st time, but did not take up subsequent opportunities to buy more shares.

Would there be the appetite amongst our support to buy shares ?

Get more people interested, get a new stand built.

Just pondering like, anyways off to celtic park for a pre match wander aboot, come on the hoops.

Should we have some sort of Share Save scheme that is part of the Season Book package ?

53,000 season card holders, at a guess 10,000 surviving share holders from the 1995 issue.

Hows about everytime you buy a ticket , you get to purchase a share as well ?

Like Marks and Spencers employees, use that as a model.

It would need DD and Co to accept a reduction in their percentage overtime, but maybe we would get 50,000 part owners that are actully interested .

    enough pondering aff oot.

The Fergus McCann share issue in 1994 remains the most successful in British Football

More than 10,000 fans rallied to buy the shares which gave them ownership of Celtic. It led to more than £20 million being raised, the most successful share issue in British football history. It gave McCann full control and raised finances which would be used to improve the club
