The rascal Neil Lennon

771

What a rascal that Neil Lennon is, laughing off interest in Amido Balde while leading us all down the Kevin Doyle road last week, then Amido pitches up at Celtic Park, complete with obligatory Celtic scarf, before heading for some scans and time plugged -up with on the running machine today.

Amido’s road to Celtic Park has not been straight.  He was released by Sporting Lisbon last year without kicking a ball for them, but he has spent a year in a competitive league playing against some Champions League defences, so Celtic will have a fair idea of what kind of player he is.

Does he have the technique?  Does he have the physique?  Does he have the temperament?   John Park and the scouts will have given Neil Lennon lots of information on these elements of Amido, so there should be no surprises.

This is even more true of Balde than of last season’s twin striking signings, Lassad and Miku (trivia question of the future, Who led the line for Celtic when they beat Barcelona in 2012?).  Both arrived in the final days of the window, with options expiring all around and beggars choosing.

As always, the most important hope for any transfer window is that the manager and scouts get their first choices.  That assured, we’ll do alright.

11 June and first piece of transfer speculation. Held the tide as long as I could.

We have a special Father’s Day offer for the Willie Wallace book.  Order between now and Thursday morning and we’ll include a Father’s Day card, complete with your own message. See the big graphic to the right..

You can choose from two cards, see explanation and choices here, one with Tony Watt after scoring against some Spanish lot, the other with Billy McNeill receiving some trophy or other.

When you deal with the type of people the Police deal with every day, I would imagine it doesn’t lend itself to assisting in the development of their ‘diplomatic’ skills …… I have always found them to be friendly……not that I have had too many dealings with them ……there are worse people in the world than the Police…..

  6. Re Balde

Hate being pessimistic about signings but I don’t really understand this one. Everyone’s being saying we’re looking for a target man who is good in the air. This guy is big but his strengths don’t lie in his aerial ability – he looks very similar to Samaras only he opts for a more central role.

Watching him play points to a guy who is quite quick over a medium distance, is good on the ball ‘for a big lad’ and will work his socks off for the team but isn’t a natural goal-scorer.

I’m sure he’ll score more for Celtic than for his current club but I don’t really get the signing. Unless Sammi is for the off which I just can’t imagine.

Aye. The military – they have guns and everything.

The people they deal with every day are the people who pay their wages – obviously not the part of the wage some of them receive from tabloid newspapers, just the part of the wage they are taxed on.

Celtic didn’t oppose Ogilvie, then? @cqn Game’s up. It’s all bull****

  12. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Maybe he’ll have a night out to celebrate – 95 grand should cover it.

  13. The only possible reason I can think of that CO was re-elected was that people (not “The People”) want him still in place, when the mega-merde hits the fan.

Along the lines of “don’t interrupt the enemy when they are tangling themselves tighter and tighter within the fabric of – cough – Scottish society”.

No easy exit stage left for you Ogilvie, ma boy!

Celtic will never again knowingly get a single penny from my pocket while Ogilvie remains in charge. That I can promise.

@tommyinglasgow @celticfc @ScottishFA Time to ask every celtic supporters group to contact Celtic FC regarding Campbell Ogilvie re-election

  19. THE EXILED TIM,

the smsm get abuse for not doing anything about charlotte’s leak’s and yet our own leader’s go on with the same corrupt

cabal still at the helm, scottish football club’s and i include our own club are a disgrace and have no moral’s or integrity,it’s for other’s to as they wish as it is for me

and i am sorry but not one penny will be parted in this disgusting alliance.

  20. P.I. Paul ‏@MTHForum 8m

The SFA and Celtic are using the emotional ties we have to the club to continue dipping your pockets while we look on and do nothing.

  21. A lot of Celtic supporters on here seriously underestimating what a bloomin’ good Administrator Campbell Ogilvie is…..

  22. Steinreignedsupreme on

I sense another night of board bashing.

    Hardly rocket science, I know.

  23. So we know who voted him back in then? Spill the beans. It’s in the public interest.

  24. Come on, lads, the FACTS, please. I want to be well armed when I contact Celtic.

  25. No doubt with Corrupt Regan’s latest statement the one and only LNS will be at the head of the queue to investigate CG & CW links

  26. danso_1888

    I agree.

I have written to the club, no point in bleating on a blog.

There was a chance today to force positive change in the game, they may well be happy with the status quo, this Tim aint.

Not a penny more from my family.

Sad that it has come to this, but I can’t see any sence in paying into a bent game, a game where there will only be on winner at the end of the day.

They should all hang their heads in shame.

  27. Joe Filippis Haircut on

The young striker Balde who we are trying to sign fits in with the Celtc business model he is young has pace and good physical shape and has scored goals for his previous club. Now this strategy will not bring us in a top striker who is the finished article. We appear to be talking about 1.2 to 2 million with add ons we can see that the finished article would cost many millions more.So we as a club need to work on improving the player and if we can do that and he scores regularly for us at home and in Europe in two or three seasons we may be able to sell him on for a large profit now this strategy is not without risk and not every signing will work out in our favour the key is that more of our young signings make the grade than dont that is our strategy and I for one cant see any reason to be unhappy with it .H.H.

  28. THE EXILED TIM,

the fact that you have had to write to the club on this issue speaks for itself.

  29. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Kano 1000 on

Big Bad John Tweeting that he predicted six months ago that Balde would go for a big sum to someone—- now that is an interesting testimonial!

  30. Celtic Football Club have sat and waited and said nothing for far too long now.

If they don’t comment soon then I’m afraid they are happy with this shenanigans in Scottish Football.

I’m sick of listening to others saying they’re waiting for the right time, well sorry that’s bullshit.

if our club would’ve nipped this in the bud long ago we wouldn’t be in this situation.
