The spreadsheet on file at every club

550

There is a spreadsheet on file at every club with the anticipated sale value of each player on it.  This value often has nothing to do with how important the player is to the club, or even how good he is, it is a hard assessment of what the market will pay.

Kristoffer Ajer, for example, could end up at a tier one club next season, but his price tag will be inhibited by only having 12 months left on his Celtic contract.  James Forrest is also a talent and has two years remaining on his current deal.  James, though, will turn 30 in July.  The time Spurs managers travel to Glasgow to watching his passed.

Younger players with plenty on their contracts are not assured money either.  Ismaila Soro (22) has three years left on his contract but the spreadsheet at Celtic is unlikely to have a figure as high as we paid for him last year; Ismaila just has not played enough football to merit a reflective increase in value.

Market health is also a factor.  There is seemingly endless supply of debt to those tier one clubs, but the game in most of Europe is on its knees.  What would we expect from a French club for the likes of Olivier Ntcham, after the collapse of their TV deal?

Which brings us Patryk Klimala.  I like Patryk, his willingness to show for the ball and bust a lung to get back and find space was a refreshing change of pace from much of what we watched this season.  Various coaches didn’t think he had what it takes for Celtic, so his chances were limited and an exit increasingly likely.

We paid £3.5m for him; I expected to collect around a third of that when he moved on, not the entire sum we got back from New York Red Bulls.  That’s nothing, to the £10m Bayer Leverkusen paid for Jeremie Frimpong in January, a player I wanted dropped and replaced.  The keeper of Celtic’s spreadsheet has enjoyed updating a column this week.

I wonder if New York or Bayer want a goalkeeper with Champions League and European international experience?

*The author of the book A J (Angus Joseph) Cronin although born in Cardross of a Catholic da and Presbie mother was brought up in Dumbarton after his da died

His paternal grandparents had migrated fae Armagh tae Alexandria and there’s a plaque on the wall of the house they lived in to this day.

His family owned several businesses’s and in the Brian Wilson Centennial book they are listed as publicans in Alexandria and early shareholders of the club.

His maternal grampa, who was a hatter in town, looked after him and would walk him round tae St Patrick’s in the town where he would sit outside until the Mass was over and then walk him home.

He himself was a lifelong Dumbarton supporter due tae his oul grampa taking him tae Boagheid on a regular basis.

He was a precocious student and the oul wan paid for his education at the local academy before he transferred tae St Aloysius which he paid for as well.

I have read most of his books which are centred round the Dumbarton area, his last book though “The Minstrel Boy” talks about living in Gartnethill and attending school there where he played for the football team, he highlights one final at hunden where although the better side the lost. He states categorically it was probably because of the colour of their strips.

The reason I am well versed on him is that I have been led tae believe the paternal side of my mother’s family, who also hailed fae the Black North, were related tae the Cronins.

My mother and several of her siblings when first married lived in property owned by the family and my great grandparents spent the final years of their life in similar.

Hail, Hail, and thank you for sharing that with me. My wife was watching the film today and called me to watch that particular scene. It is so sad that in the North of Ireland, and in Scotland, that you can be killed simply for being a Catholic.

The fans forum is a whitewash, it’s not fit for purpose and I stopped going 2 years ago. It was an insight though at the extent which certain individuals at the club/company hold the support in contempt, the dumbing down of the forum was almost painful and the inability on the floor to put across a coherent point was equally as painful.

Before one of the meetings a few years ago I had a conversation with a board member and a senior official. Me, ‘where is res12 heading’, them ‘nowhere’. Like i said it was a useful exercise in that sense but sitting watching the heads of a fan organisation falling over themselves about tickets to see Rangers and making sexist comments about the Hibs CEO, it’s not hard to see where it all went wrong and why there is no accountability.

    Cheers for the reply friend.

Yes I too cheered that night as like yourself I was totally unaware of Saville’s antics, seems that tens of thousands of us were unaware.

I only paid attention to Saville’s sort’s purely from a rhetorical point of view, once the RFC huns started their abusing of us about Celtic Boys Club issues, that’s when Johnny Rotten’s comments came to light for me as it wasn’t a subject that I had previously paid much attention to.

That is the reason that I called out the poster who tried to smear George Galloway with his post yesterday featuring Galloway shaking Saville’s hand on the Big Brother set, something that Galloway did to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds£ for oppressed children in the Middle East which in itself is probably the reason why no SMSM journalist will ever ask Galloway about his reason’s for going onto Big Brother in the first place.

But in terms of the cheap poster on here who used a photograph of what I’ve described above, then that poster would be taken more seriously, by me at least, if in the future the poster, or any other poster chooses a photograph of Galloway shaking Saville’s hand on Big Brother, then saying that Galloway can be judged by who he meets, then for balance, Sturgeon’s tweet on the day of Saville’s death were she quoted about…

…”Jimmy Saville ‘fixed it’ for a lot of people, today the UK is at a loss for his passing.”

Or does Sturgeon’s lack of accountability even extend onto the pages of CQN, were it seems a lot of posters have been gulled into the trap of “Look over there” politics of which Sturgeon is a world champion at?

Sturgeon has had a charmed existence for seven years with only toothless opposition to be easily brushed off, in which to deal with. Now there’s a dog that bites back that she and her fawning SMSM will find difficult to deal with, hence Scottish broadcast media’s blanket ban on Galloway, and his shrewdly assembled party since last summer, the “ALL FOR UNITY PARTY” should be checked out by any Celtic fan who is capable of critical thinking, a thinking that will lead you to understand why it is that, the northern English working class people who voted for BREXIT freedom from EU unelected banking cabal which his inflicted 40+ years of neoliberal politics in UK, driven by Thatcher and Blair, and a host of others who lived on their knees and kissed the EU’s ass, yet Labour voters had to vote Tory to get BREXIT done.

Sturgeon survives because ‘unthinking’ Celtic fans hold the balance of power, and they use that power by voting for a Scottish govt that despises Celtic, and “The Greens” who want to abolish Catholic schools, and these same ‘unthinking’ Celtic fans also vote for an Irish Tory Celtic PLC board, who’ve just thrown 10 in a row season under the bus.

Celtic fans are so powerful if only they’d stop being ‘unthinking’ and take a step back and look at the big picture.

If these Celtic fans start to think, then they’ll see that Galloway’s party “ALL FOR UNITY” hold the answers when they open the books, like I said on the last blog.
