The standard we now dare aspire to

374

Consider this: with Celtic certainties to win the league, they have now been given three consecutive home Scottish Cup games, against Brechin, Partick and Morton, on the road to perhaps becoming the first club to retain the treble in Scottish football history. For so many years home cup draws were as elusive as the outcome to SFA review results into Rangers Uefa licence in 2011, but here we are.

The big picture from the weekend: Despite things still being far from flowing on the park, I’m delighted with the win over Partick Thistle. Of the two cup games this week, the Thistle game was the most important. An aggregate win over Zenit would flood more euros into the Celtic Park coffers, but progress of (perhaps only) one more round in the Europa League will be forgotten long before the outcome of this season’s Scottish Cup.

In his first five seasons in charge, Jock Stein won five league titles and five League Cups, losing three Scottish Cup games during that period. This is the standard we now dare aspire to.

Daryl Broadfoot pontificating on Shortbread. Part of the problem gets a voice. The topic being were Peter Lawwell’s comments at the weekend helpful ! The more I listen to this twat the more sympathy I have for PL .

Nail on head, dealing with hun placemen like Broadfoot would be frustrating, DB on Shortbread again……? I smell shoite…..

  3. Hi Bhoys

A big cat poacher has reportedly been killed and eaten by the pride of lions he was trying to hunt.

The suspected hunter was heard screaming for help as he was mauled and bitten to death by lions in the Ingwelala Private Nature Reserve in Hoespruit, near Phalaborwa in South Africa.

The pride were unhurt and it looks as though they saved themselves from the unfortunate fate of Cecil the Lion and his son Xanda, who were both shot dead in South Africa.

Authorities presume the man was hunting the lions, who left his head almost untouched, after a hunting rifle was found close to what was left of his body.

The man is yet to be formally named and police in Limpopo have requested help from the Department of Home Affairs to identify him.

Anyone heard from Mr King this week?

  4. Haven’t had a dug for many years but reading the doggie posts made me think back over the decades to try & remember the individual dogs I had and their names.

The first one I remember it wasn’t mine as such as I was only about 6 but his name was Rebel, then there was Blackie followed by Prince, next came a very clever Sheep Dog called Laddie.

There were no dogs for many years then we had Rocky & our last dog was Murphy.

  5. So once again Broadfoot is on @bbcsportsound

Peter Lawwell makes an appearance calling out certain individuals within the SFA & they invite this corrupt pr**k on.

The SFA is full of masons & they can’t be having change/impartial blazers within the corridors of Hampden now can they.

Paranoid ? You better believe it.

  6. Chick Youngs Pavlovian response to any radio discussion on the SFA is to state PL runs the game in Scotland.

    Fair does my box in.

If I remember right, you accepted some time ago that ref Broonie you had been a pure rocket and 100% wrong, no?

    ;-)

    ********

Close …. but as I recall it … not sure it was about Scott Brown, or maybe it was, but I’m not sure I agreed that I was a rocket… but I think everyone else did!

    :)

With all these names to choose from, I may have to get 2 pups!

  8. My understanding is Broadfoot is paid PR for the SFA although one suspects he would pursue some agendas free of charge.

  9. Dorus De Vries dosen’t exactly fill the goal or the fans with confidence, but its very difficult even at most big clubs to promote a back up keeper and expect him to be an instant David De Gea. We need to hope the ole trembling mince keep the ball away from him or give him an early touch, till he settles in his first Euro tie for ages.

I’ll be surprised if Charly Musonda has done enough to allow BR to keep Callum MacGregor benched, and I’d expect him to start, as by comparison he’s a Euro veteran Mikael Lustig is the old warrior and likely to start along with Simunovic Ajer . Tierney as a slightly more withdrawn left flanker will hopefully help Scott Sinclair use the wing to better advantage

Like others I’d like to see Olivier Ntcham further forward but expect BR to use MacGregor and Rogic later in the game, in this role with the Euro night atmos ramping up the performance levels all round.

  10. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

    DALLAS DALLAS

When it all boils down the players were and are treated as employees.

Wee Jackie, was the most recent to express his annoyance at the club.

McGarvey also mentioned that all the players wives wanted to kiss him after the headed winner in the 85 SCF. Simply cause the bonus money meant a summer holiday for the player’s and family.

  11. Hi Bhoys

Reading that wee rat Mc Laughlin’s work on the Peter Lawell story.

He writes quote “It’s not just Lawwell’s wish list but the wish list of a number of other influential people in the game who I’ve spoken to over the past few weeks. The problem is, the make up of the SFA is such that turning the wish list into reality is almost impossible. ”

If he’s happy to use Lawell’s name why not name these other influential people.

    What are they afraid of?

    KEEP THE FAITH

  12. DDV had no chance with either goal on Saturday. IIRC the first time he touched the ball with his gloves is when he smothered the KT interception in the 92nd minute.

We’ve enough issues with the squad with a full team out without obsessing about newly invented issue.

    In my humble opinion.

  13. hey you ghuys who havent had a dog, you dont know what your missing ive got frankie and benny now, but in the last 2 years ive lost 4 westies and a yorkie, i wont name them or i might be outed, mit knows the story, but its like a member of your family dying, and before anyone says its only a dog i feckin pity you ,you are with these animals 24/7 you love and you grieve and i dont mind telling you ive feckin grieved, why its unconditional love now this is where i leave it to my best friend mike in toronto over to you mike educate these ghuys.hh.

  14. MWD

I agree with you and Celtic’s attempts to sign the South African lad that failed due to a late discovered fitness issue in the summer and then Compere whom we do sign but gets sidelined for 4 weeks because of injury and purchase of the Dundee lad in window suggests Celtic agree with you too.

  15. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Big Cup Winners , thanks for your reply.

Things must have been bad with the cup final winning bonus for the players needed to pay for their holidays.

The players’ wives should have been trying to kiss big Roy also as his drive and determination in the last 15 minutes of the final , got us over the line.

  16. TONYROME on12TH FEBRUARY 2018 7:26 PM

It will be a lot less impossible if the full extent of the SFA’s duplicity since 2000 to date were given maximum publicity.

  17. MiT

If you get said dog…..take a look at the size of his testicles…..if they’re large call him Bigbaws…….great conversation starter….

  18. MIT

I know i’ve had my say for dog names but my last one was called Tim or you could call him Billy and when he soils the carpet you won’t feel bad about rubbing his nose in it.

  21. Broadfoot is part of the problem.

Lied to David Conn about an unpublished letter from HMRC that excused the wtc liability from being an overdue payable.

Didn’t realise an unpublished letter would not be needed if the liability had only been potential at 31st March.

Almost certainly conivved with STV’s Grant Russel to remove the Traverso reference to new club/company in his reply to Celtic shareholders in STV’s reporting of the UEFA reply.

Left SFA last year but still in their pay. Grant Russell left STV for Motherwell.

Regan left the SFA to be followed by McKinlay who failed to act on information put in his lap by Res 12 lawyers.

BBC can ignore the underlying realities all they like, in fact the more they do the more the dismantling can continue without meaningfull comment by them.
