Between making his international debut in 2017 and joining Celtic over four years later, Josip Juranovic started five games for Croatia.  In the 18 months since he became a became automatic first pick for his country and a standout at the World Cup.

The Daizen Maeda story is even more stark.  He started one game for Japan (in 2019) before becoming a Celtic player, getting to the World Cup and beating two of the tournament favourites.

This is the story Celtic are telling transfer targets right now: ‘Look at what we did for Jura and Daizen, come to Celtic and we will do the same for you’.

    Supporting Croatia in the hope of a few more million in a transfer fee seems a bit souless to me.

    I’m supporting Croatia, NOT because it might add a few more millions to JJ’s transfer fee but because they seem to be the underdogs and also I have a long memory that includes the World Championship when we played an Argentinian team, who kicked us off the park, and also 2 Argentines playing for Atletico Madrid who kicked Jimmy Johnstone off the park. I suppose I shouldn’t hold a grudge but, boy I do.

    Messi’s career has been astonishing. Since his Barcelona debut in 2004, we have witnessed so many moments of brilliance it is hard to fathom he is still delivering moments of magic 18 years on.

     

    I, for one, think it would be fitting to see him lift the World Cup. Cannot think of another player that deserves it more.

    I am leaning SLIGHTLY towards Croatia,

     

    My Bets are ON, including a wee COMEDY Bet for a DOUBLE…” Croatia to Score with a Penalty @ odds of 4/1…..along with Morrocco to do likewise in the other semi Final tomorrow night @ odds of 9/1.

     

    With VAR on the go…maybe some Penalties given over the Two games ?

     

     

    I also ” feel” that even IF Croatia went a Goal down, they have the skill and determination to fight back ?

     

    I could be WRONG with all that I have stated above ?

    As a resident of Englandshire, watching a world cup match without the constant referral to ‘it’s coming home’ narrative will be a great upgrade.

    I always find the GOAT debates hard to resolves as everyone has their specific period of watching football and also live TV has become more prevalent.

     

     

    As such, we either:

     

    1. Go with the player you loved watching at your peak enjoyment of football

     

    2. have an ingrained view of a player that you have hardly seen but read loads about

     

    3. go on stats

     

     

    i think it should be Greatest Of Your Generation or GOYG (snappy)

     

     

    I raved about Pele for years but only say a few highlights and his goal stats

     

    Maradona was great in WCs and great stats but i never saw many league games

     

    Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane played in the CL live TV era so i saw loads of them.

     

     

    So based on all that, it’s Paul McStay for me!!

    Not seen Clancy as a VAR yet so it’s tricky to know how he will be. I don’t like him as a ref. He sucks any energy out of every game I see him officiate in.

    I`ve mentioned something along those lines a few times ( on here and in conversations elsewhere ). No one seems to think there is anything even a a little odd about those figures.
