The Talismanic Trip and the Holy Grail

287

Celtic’s world has changed greatly since that moment during the first half at Ibrox on 2 January, with the team well on top, the commentator mentioned they were off to Dubai after the game.  Celtic’s dominance did not produce a goal and the game was lost.  In the days that followed, a second lockdown was announced, Dubai’s status in the Green Corridor was rescinded, Christopher Jullien became infected and 13 players were forced to isolate.  The dominoes continued to fall with Hibs added-time equalise, while we await the outcome against Livingston.

We knew Celtic were off to Dubai for weeks before the post-match flight.  Personally, I did not bat an eyelid at the prospect.  Very few of us did, remarkably so, considering the angst expressed post-defeat, post First Minister’s “I don’t know, but…” innuendo.  After event-ism is often fertile.

I have always thought it is the manager’s job to ask for what is in the interests of the football department irrespective of wider consequence.  Of course Neil wanted to go to Dubai, last season’s trip is seen as crucial to winning the title.  Similarly, it is Peter Lawwell’s job to ensure that what the football department gets is only what is in the best interests of the club, and on occasion, wider society.

A public apology from Peter is a rare thing, so we can be sure where responsibility lies on this matter.  He should have said “No”, but like so much of what has gone wrong recently, wider considerations were set aside in pursuit of the Holy Grail.

With Celtic playing well and the title still in their own hands, Peter was never going to stop the Talismanic Trip, not this season, anyway.  Would I have said “No”?  Would you?  It is an easy question to answer on 14 January.  Reality is, I am as confilcted by pursuit of the Holy Grail as much as anyone.  I know I would cross lines that would normally be observed, so would we all.  Maybe this would have been one, who knows?

Leadership involves making difficult calls and apologising when you miss them.  This is not Peter’s first mistake and despite the political grandstanding it permitted, it is not remotely his most onerous.  History may regard blind pursuit of the Holy Grail as more consequential.

Monday night was another sore disappointment this season.

I don’t think we’ve used the five substitutes allowance to our best advantage. Is it still even a thing to consider?

On Saturday, I’d go with Harper first half, Okoflex second half as our 9. Pre-set the idea and stick to it, however their minutes on the pitch play out. I don’t look forward to watching half hearted commitment from players trying to manage their way through a possible full shift. I’d never play Rogic as a 9.

For two years now, the support has endured appalling levels of reliability from the senior 9s which hasn’t been corrected at Lennoxtown.

Somtimes the public are just to quick to jump in .

My wife through health reasons would not go out . last year i managed to convince her a wee trip down the Clydeside (in ma wee van) then nip into Asda for a few messages on the way home would give her a wee lift .

So after a wee 45 minute run about the countryside i stopped at Asda nipped in for the shopping

when i came out i just started loading the messages into the back , all of a sudden this couple started shouting ” typical van driver ,park where you like “, i was in the invalid/disabled space.

    My response was….. ( NAW that’s TAXI drivers you’re thinking of…Only kiddin VP :))

My first thought was they haven’t seen my wife’s pass on the windscreen??

I have a dustsheet across the mesh bulkhead , so you cant see from back to the front of the van.

i didn’t realise my wife wasn’t in the van ,lol.

Here she comes from Asda , walking aided by her Delta , she had popped in for the toilet.

If / when you go out , i hope you’re afforded the time to produce you exemption card , because there are some real impatient CHUMPS out there .

TAKE CARE , stay safe .

I’m not religious so don’t care about the Pope thing ( although it would be a laugh) but I did predict to mates on Whatsapp that my hopes for 2020/21 were, 10 IAR, an independent Scotland and to get a redundancy package from work. I hope the other two don’t go the way of the 10 and still have hopes for 21.

I wish you well on your 2 remaining hopes .

i just wonder if the Catholics who voted against independence / SNP would have a different view if Cardinal Winning (RIP) had become POPE .

Maybe not a discussion for here …..just random thoughts that go through this aul bonce .

If we are going for one defender from Scotland why not a punt on PORTEOUS of Hibs or has that bridge been burnt due to the McGINN saga.

  10. My friends in Celtic,

As previously stated I think Celtic are acting correctly and responsibly by accepting furlough money.

How can we be criticised when mega rich teams like Arsenal and Spurs are accepting emergency government loans.

However I do think signing players in the current financial situation is to be considered very, very carefully.

    HH.

PS : Adrian Dunham is a phoney
