The unhelpful winter break

371

Nine days without a game is technically not a winter break but it is double the normal interval Celtic players have between games.  Ironically, it arrives when they found a formation that resolved the performance problems that plagued the club until December.

I would have preferred a midweek game than a break, with three games to make up we have applied pressure to our spring programme, although I’m sure Celtic did not anticipate the turnaround in form when these matters were settled.

I tried to vote NO 2 or 3 times on selling Eddie, but it wouldn’t register. I wonder if that just happened to the no votes

As a bit of a project during this next lockdown I am thinking of writing an “unauthorised” biography of Mr Brendan Rodgers.

I have heartily consumed comments from CQN to inform this work but could do with a bit of help with his Celtic timeline?

“Brendan” arrived to a feted response and won the treble – basically he was the Messiah.

“Rodgers” won a double treble but the form and performance wasn’t as spectacular as the first treble and we took a few doings in Europe – his status was therefore revisited.

“Fraudgers” left Celtic mid-season thus revealing a (previously well hidden) malevolent, self serving nature and faux affection for our club. Turns out he wasn’t the Messiah, just a naughty boy.

“Rodgers” marginally but noticeably improved Leicester and his relationship with Celtic’s CEO was re-evaluated to some degree. To an extent his departure became more understandable.

“Brendan” is now a fine, progressive manager doing wonderful things at LCFC, he was treated shabbily by a reprobate control freak of a CEO. He was entirely blameless for the mid-season departure.

    Did I get that right?

    Hail hail

I’d take issue with the final paragraph. The second last – he initially did better at Liecester than given credit for. His team was beset by injury at the end of season and that cost them CL place on final day.

It’s still a stretch for me to completely excuse his behaviour in leaving, despite the case for partial redemption brought about by the recent antics of Lawwell and Desmond.

  9. Ned policing standards. They witness a crime have the power to arrest the perpetrator, but leave it for now and have a probe later.

Finlay Donaldson will get them off using the “seen worse at celtic park with their own supporters abusing their players a few weeks ago” defense.

Cops are on the hunt for supporters who shouted at the Parkhead club’s players as they left the team bus before the clash with Rangers.

A number of people could be heard shouting “fenian c**t” and “papist c**t” as the squad left the vehicle, according to clips posted online. Others shouted “gunge that paedo” and “f*****g paedo c**t”.

“This is an active enquiry and no arrests have been made at this stage.”

A spokesperson for Celtic FC told the Daily Record: “The sectarian abuse suffered by our players and staff is completely unacceptable.

  20. Celtic Football Club have demanded police action after a number of their players were abused by vile sectarian bigots ahead of Saturday’s Old Firm match.

The club have raised the issue with cops after a crowd of people gathered outside Ibrox before launching sectarian abuse at the players as they left the team bus.

  21. I understand the argument and the sentiment about the Dubai trip but I do not understand the timing behind the expression of anger.

The Dubai winter training break has been known of for some time now. It was even being welcomed on here in terms of, “if we can get the results and a win at Ibrox, then the Dubai trip could help us kick on and put some fear into them in Jan & Feb, just like last year’s trip did”

Nobody said a word in October or November or December, when Covid was peaking again, about the Dubai trip being a bad idea. The only negative view I recall was a fear that it may be cancelled andd we would not be able to benefit from it.

In the run up to the Sevco game, when the Dubai trip was only days away, not one post was made decrying that intention.

It is hard to escape the view that our framing of views on the Dubai trip has been entirely dictated by our anger at losing the Sevco game.

P.S. I think the poll on Eddie leaving is crass too. I know posters are free to express their viws on any individual being hounded out via taxi BUT…..

Didn’t think there was a winter break (doesnt appear to be one), so didn’t accure to me that they’d need a break.
