The vandals, the violent and the vile

291

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon called what happened in Glasgow on Saturday “violence and vandalism and vile anti-Catholic prejudice”.  No holding back from Newco’s often-reluctant combatant.

On Friday, I suggested those who believe in Scottish or Glaswegian superiority should reappraise themselves on the streets on the city the following day.  Our society’s underbelly was as clear as it was predictable.  I could argue it is uglier than most places I know.

With George Square filled exclusively with illegally-assembled Newco fans, the combatants turned on each other; reliving the violence earlier generations of Oldco fans brought to cities across Britain and beyond.  There is no peer-control, no one cares enough about this particular reputation, certainly not the club that asked, “If possible, please celebrate within your own community.”  When “If possible” statements are permitted, you know what you are dealing with.

Some of us are mere football fans, not trying to compensate for a whole range of inadequacies.  If possible, let them wait another decade before they have another trophy to celebrate.

  1. As is often reminded, by the Scottish Government if it’s devolved then they do not want input elsewhere.

Decisions were all made in Scotland leading to this…

    CP at his 1992 finest.

Before the election the media were sniffing about JM and his “big pants”.

The guy was a babe magnet for a certain type of burd who spent too much time in M+S.

PA had been called out after a break-in at his solicitors — very suspicious.

So JM and his nicking aboot was all the talk of the Westminster steamie.

So CP gets to work — Sends out a completely made up story regarding the Downing Street buffet supplier. The media jump for it and then they are trashed with various bits of diary work / cast iron alibis.

So then they are a lot less focused on JM’s nickin’ aboot in case it is another set up.

The DR sending footage to PS — interesting to see what it was and what comes back.

There would appear to be at least two videos doing the rounds.

Easiest way to bury the story is to turn it into a doctored video investigation.

It is very easy to doctor a video badly.

100% correct. Our team selection was again predictably unimaginative. Those who were selected did not break sweat.

Did they give 100%. ? I do not think so, and that is damning.

There would be howls of outrage if any non Scottish politician were to so much as mention what happened.

    We all know that.

    Lets not play games.

    —-

No not playing games and you are correct that any comment would be viewed by Holyrood as interference

But your position is that we need Westminster supervision and protection. You now say that they can’t provide this.

  5. My friends in Celtic,

Scunnered by our pathetic season. Our abject capitulation.

We spend decent money, we know we had the talent, but we failed miserably.

Given these two factors and all things being equal, is this the worst Celtic team we have witnessed in 30 years.?

How many international players were in our squad? How many caps between them ?

    HH.

  6. What is the probability the footage is genuine ?

    This is the benchmark nowadays.

  7. When did scottish football clubs ever celebrate victories at George Square? This was a set up from the kick off and a perfect storm for football hating scots, an immense minority but with immense power, to shine a spotlight on the most pathetic sector of the population. Our lady of Anniesland it appears has discovered at her ripe age that there is religious bigotry in Glasgow. What about discrimination against Celtic? Celtic were not even allowed an open air bus celebration in 2019, pre covid!! Because the police BLAMED the fans for blocking the street. Where were the police then and where were the police yesterday and who is the police chief? Every mother´s son knows the name Cressida Dick but who is the head of police in the football capital of the world??? Whomever he or she is, they are of course given orders…or in this case probably not given any orders from our lazy politicians, Because politicians of all parties are egocentric, manipulative, divisive, posh-talking careerists who we need to hold to account for their abandonment of the working population. This shambles could have been avoided if it had been held in Bellahouston park.

Nothing will change in Scotland until we start a new political party ….THE WORKING PARTY

    incorrect.

  9. Apologies if already mentioned, but has anyone noticed Glen Kamara singing and dancing to FTP whilst singing sweet Caroline, it’s on Videocelts. You would think he would be the one player not throwing stones in a greenhouse!

  12. Yes history has an impact, but legally you can not assert blame on those not currently in power or did not making any decisions leading to and including Saturday’s sh*t show.

  13. RTT

The Chief Constable of Scotland is Ian Livingston, who after the first George Square riot employed a QC to say they did a proportionate job.

Thats what I mean about awareness of bias bigotry unequal Policing start with him, the same Chief Superintendant Sutherland was the Commander for both incidents and we got the same or worse outcome from incident 1 to 2, but his bosses will give him a pat on the back. In my opinion he should be disciplined and face the sack.

  14. Video has appeared on social media channels of an apparent riot in George Square Glasgow.

The Scottish Media has rushed to condemn the video saying it is obviously “doctored” with bad editing and the events did not happen, and if they did it was a small minority of Chelsea supporters who cleverly travelled via Belfast to get in the back door under cover of customs at Glasgow Airport.

Rangers and Police Scotland have issued a joint statement saying that the real events passed peacefully in the “tradition and ethos” of the original Club which is still the same club as the current club that started life when four lads had a dream about never allowing catholics to play with them at football because of their religion.

Further they confirmed No police were injured by rangers fans high spirited capers, and no rangers fans were hurt by other rangers fans,

Meanwhile the Loudon tavern mobiised to clear the square of some discarded crispa packets and greggs rappers.

The DUP member on the rangers board confirmed all is well in the world with a staunch No surrender , they dont like us, we dont care, and Gob Bless the Queen.

  17. For balance I have an inkling Police Scotland have different agendas to the current Scottish Govt may even have a complex power struggle and so happy to admit, the Scottish Govt role may have been made more difficult.

But this, sadly, doesn’t change all of their priority to protect those who’ve suffered from this in so many ways.

I should be numb to this by now, the levels of abuse accepted are just so venomous. Press and media taking the p*ss also.

  18. no.martim

you are omitting the social economic and political context that fanned and indeed augmented bigotry

no progressive action by any of them

why are you so insistent on action today.bash yirsel out on the nat govtwhen it is the same shite and bigotry that had nothing done in its previous 20/40/60 /100.years.all very handy Martim it only highlights the impotence of predecessors. in doing zero.

20 years so you can unload all that pent up bigotry you have experienced in the union into it.convenient and a touch shallow.

Not all projections from some make any sense no matter what “side” you are on.

It’s a complex issue which deserves complex solutions by everyone.

That has to start with appropriately asserting blame. That being admitted to and moving forward from there.

  20. AN TEARMANN on 17TH MAY 2021 5:36 PM

No. No one in history made decisions that lead to Saturday. Current Police Seniors. Current Politcal leaders did.

    Can’t change that, sorry.

  21. Re: the Rangers team singing. I think it is clearly a Scottish contingent singing the offending words. We’ve no idea if the rest said anything or just let it lie. There are plenty of add ons in Celtic singing sessions in pubs where i don’t sing the line but try to enjoy myself.

  24. Those is situ right now made decisions leading to and including Saturday.

They should be judged on and be held accountable on those decisions as we all are in jobs. And how the deal with the fallout.

We will wait and see. Now is not the time to create a defence for them, despite your best efforts.

Agree and that’s where the social impact that AnTearmann refers to is more relevant.

Hard to measure, but how are those in media power positions influenced in their decisions?

By a bent recruitment system where they have only certain types in control.

Media in Scotland viewed by many from any background to be biased.

Giving excuses or controlling content does influence your average punter.
